Did "Grey's" Brawl Force Knight Out of the Closet?

T.R. Knight"Grey's Anatomy" star T.R. Knight told PEOPLE exclusively that he is gay. But was this coming out of his own free will, or as a result of the much-hyped fight between "Grey's" stars Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey?

PEOPLE released a statement from Knight today that said, "While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I'm gay isn't the most interesting part of me."

But the National Enquirer may have tipped us off to the story when they reported that during the fight between Washington and Dempsey, Washington yelled, "I'm not your little faggot like (name deleted)."

The Enquirer said they withheld the name of the co-star Washington mentioned "because of the extreme nature of the slur."

Does Knight's disclosure confirm the Enquirer's story?

Calls to Washington's reps were not immediately returned.

77. IMO, TR's coming out seems to force the producers hands. What does it say if they DON'T fire Washington? Does it say that they (the producers) don't believe this happened, and the Enquirer has taken some liberties with the story? (it wouldn't be the first time)

If it is true, this demands an apology at least. How can they work together after this?

80. if this is true, washington should be fired! this is a racial. no matter how you look at it. some one's sexuality is there own business. T.R. should not of had to say anything! that was his own personal life. who care's, he is a great actor. that's all that matter's.

81. For those that understand why gay men and women stay in the closet the situation between Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey should be proof enough that there is still a strong homophoebic community out there. Gay men and women are victimized constantly. Its almost safer to stay in the closet. Can you imagine if Washington grabbed Knight by the throat instead of Dempsey? Honestly people - we do still need to protect ouselves on a regular basis with people like Washington out there.

82. Okay people stop comparing gays to blacks. Completely different issues of race and sexual identity. Yes, Isaiah was wrong. He's an unprofessional jerk. The fact that he's black has nothing to do with it. Everytime a white guys says stupid stuff no one says "what if someone said something bad about white people!"

83. I am sick of people comparing race to sexual preference. Every time I hear people compare race and homosexuality I want to scream, you are born whatever race you are, you choose your sexuality. Don't say you are born gay, people have "changed" from being gay to being straight and vice versa, if you were born gay you wouldn't be flip flopping back and forth, and what about "bi-sexuality" how do you explain that? People have the right to do whatever they want, I, on the other hand am sick of having it shoved down my throat, and if I don't agree with it and I voice my opinion, I am labeled predjudiced.

84. All I know is that they had words, but they have worked it out. And being that Patrick probably has some pull, if they have worked it out, he more than likely have told the bosses to just let them move on from this incident. Some of you should be on tv, how dramatic you are! YIKES............... Oh here is something to get some of you salivating with anger, IN MY PERFECT WORLD MEN WOULD ONLY WANT TO BE WITH WOMEN, AND WOMEN WITH MEN. HAVE A NICE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

86. this is just MY opinion. i don't watch this show but i heard about the "fight" and then i heard that the one actor came out. i had no idea it was connected. anyhow, i don't know that i think the black(let's not be so damn p.c.) actor should be fired for his actions but he should be reprimanded in some way and a public apology should be required. i know sometimes people can say things in the heat of an arguement that they don't necessarily mean or believe. i'm NOT excusing his behaviour, it's just that it is true that people can say very hateful and hurtful things when they feel attacked and can't think of a more dignified response. i also have to say that if he had been refered to as the "n" word, all hell would break loose and whoever said it would be fired on the spot, so there is kind of a double standard. i really don't think it should matter if the actor is gay or not, he is an ACTOR, meaning he plays roles. how many straight actors have played gay or handicapped, etc.(and don't you over-sensitve queens get all bent thinking i'm saying that being gay is a handicap...which if you think about it, would be a slight to handicap people, for gays to be offended by being compared to them)) and that doesn't mean they are what they play. we are all human beings no matter how different we are. can we PLEASE try to get along and if we can't accept each other then at least realize that we all have the right to live our lives as we see fight as long as we're not physically hurting each other?! ok, i'm done rambling. also i am gay in case any other gay people feel the need to go off on me for any of my comments.

88. i'm just curious to know what someone who is black AND gay thinks. i'm not being funny or an a-hole, i'd just like to know that person's point of view. by the way, why can't people just post their comments and/or beliefs on here without getting so angry? oh, that's right, i'm living in the real world unfortunately.

89. As a gay man, I'm proud the guy decided to come out, and appalled that it took some ignorant guy using another rude kind of f-bomb to get him out. That said, and having never seen the show, they would be wrong to fire Isaiah Washington. It's the old tidbit about how two wrongs don't make a right. It'd be as courageous and manly if Washington would come out, admit he said what he did, issue a few mea culpas regardless of his true feelings, and let him decide whether or not to keep working on the show, as long as he keeps his temper, tongue, and attitude in check for the rest of his stay. It's too easy to get rid of him outright, and even easier for the "conservative" "pundits" to talk about how Hollywood is too liberal, doesn't respect "family values, blah blah blah.

The producers should keep him unless the actor doesn't meet a certain level of public and private remorse. In which case, sh*t-can him for being a disruptive influence on-set.

90. Shame on you, Isaiah. TR - we love you, gay/straight/black/white - whatever. Others commenting are correct - had this been Patrick making a racially insensitive comment to Isaiah, public apologies and lawsuits would be in effect. Greys is one of the few shows that I look forward to watching each week - its a shame that something like this had to happen to ruin it.
