Did "Grey's" Brawl Force Knight Out of the Closet?

T.R. Knight"Grey's Anatomy" star T.R. Knight told PEOPLE exclusively that he is gay. But was this coming out of his own free will, or as a result of the much-hyped fight between "Grey's" stars Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey?

PEOPLE released a statement from Knight today that said, "While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I'm gay isn't the most interesting part of me."

But the National Enquirer may have tipped us off to the story when they reported that during the fight between Washington and Dempsey, Washington yelled, "I'm not your little faggot like (name deleted)."

The Enquirer said they withheld the name of the co-star Washington mentioned "because of the extreme nature of the slur."

Does Knight's disclosure confirm the Enquirer's story?

Calls to Washington's reps were not immediately returned.

91. I think the real story about this mess is what happens next. It is clear that a large percentage of these posts speculate what would happen if racial slurs were hurled towards Washington. You can agree or disagree if this gets to be a race issue, but SOMETHING would happen as a result.

I think the timing of TR coming out makes this an issue for the producers. He did not have to come out because of this. Someone called him a f----t. If TK doesn't dignify that with a comment, no one thinks anything, this can be put to rest as a one-time blow-up on set. But he chose to dignify it. TR publicly comes out. Sure, he might have done it sooner or later, but he does it in the wake of this fight. I think it is a calculated effort to get Washington kicked off the show. If I was gay, I wouldn't want to work with a violent homophobe. Smart move, TK. Now it's your move, ABC.

92. It's sad when any type of demeaningremark is made. However, I am tired of people being fired because they happen to be human and make mistakes. This could be an opportunity for meaningful dialogue and healing. Those making demeaning comments here should be looking at their own words and lives-casting the first stone, second stone or any stone at all is not helpful. Forgiveness is helpful.

93. While I don't for one minute like what Iisah called T.R. ....it was a private conversation. How did reporters come to know this? They were having a fight, but was it out in public or on the set in private? If it was in private then it's no body's business frankly. T.R. should be proud of who he is and Iisah should apoligize and everyone else should move on.

94. All of you need to get off of Isaiah's d*ck!!!! What do yo all mean "shame on you, Isaiah"? You all are so stupid. Like Patrick is the finest thing (well, he is fine). If Patrick was talking crazy, then his ass needed to get choked. If T.R. is gay, well, that is his business but how many of you can control what comes out of your little precious mouths when you get extremely angry? Isaiah is obviously not getting fired because the writer of this show is African American so what do you think??? Get over it!!!!!

95. workplace harrassment because of gender, race, religion or sexual orientation in California and the Producers of Grey's Anatomy and Network who airs it are liable for legal damages. People don't choose to be gay anymore than Patricia chose to be straigt, thank God the Constituion of the great U.S.A. gives us all equal protection in the eyes of the law. If you don't like America there are plenty of countries that would be happy to have you and we gay patriots would be happy to have you haters gone. If someone had called a co-worker a n-word-er in Isaiah Washington they would have been fired immediately. The world is changing and people need to catch up. The law protects victims, not abusers. So sad that is a problem for some of you.

96. To #94

Yeah, I get what you are saying--a black brotha sticks to anotha. Washington won't get fired because the top dog is one of his own?!
Sounds familiar.....
Like when the OJ jury stuck up for one of their own, and the only two decent jurors there were the two who looked at the evidence and actually saw the truth of it--and guess what? They were NOT BLACK!!!! No surprise there......

97. I love this show!! I love all of the characters as well. I don't care what color they are, or if they are straight or gay. I do think they should behave as professionals. If everything I have read here about Washington is correct, it would be easy to write him out of the show. Just never let his hand heal. He has no business disrupting the show, assualting another actor or making totally stupid and innappropriate remarks about yet another person. I used to enjoy "Burke's" scenes on the show. Now, every time I see him, I will think of this incident. He can be replaced. T.R. shold just hold his head up and continue on being sweet George.

98. I don't think it's right that Washington's attitude toward his fellow cast members inevitably led to the coming out of Knight. The fact that Washington caused all this trouble should lead to him being fired.

How stupid are you? Chosing to be gay! Who choses to be hated, live your life behind closed doors! Never being able to show the world you are happy with life and a companion. Having your very own country go after you passing amendments and laws, just so you cannot get health insurance with your partner or pay taxes like any other couple living together. We choose this life? We choose a daily battle??

100. cant we all just get along? hahahahh sorry this has happened and heard the show execs are already looking for a replacement for for Washinhton which is unfortunate ,because the cast as a whole makes the show work so well, as i have grown ta love from the start but you know with the continued growth of celebrity, this was bound ta happen from somewhere, and hate the black actor is the one singled out as the bad guy.........

101. TR Knight should be fired because he is a role model, and homosexuality should not be tolerated in society because it is an abomination againgt God.

102. I agree that Isiah should be fired. If the situation would have been reversed and had been racist comments instead of homophobic comments, then the other actor definately would have been fired. He's having that hand problem anyways from the gun shot wound, it would be a great season finale to have him leave the show. Im sure Christina will be able to move on. Maybe with Mc Steamy. Or George. That would be interesting.

103. There are a lot of "hidden racism" comments posted on this issue especially post #20. I totally concur with Post # 29 comments. This is not race issue, why is race being discuss? Yes, the incident may have been uncalled for, but we were not there; therefore, we don't know what actually happened. As for TR, enjoy the freedom of choice. Your personal life has nothing to do with your acting. Bottom line...the show is great.

104. Granted Washington's comments were very unprofessional and inappropriate, but from what I've read it does not seem to have been a direct attack against Knight. As for comparing what was said about Knight's sexuality to the equivalence of a racial slur, obviously the issue of race carries more sensitivty than that of sexuality, and the two should not be interchanged.

105. Sounds like Isaiah has some serious anger management issues. I think his behavior should result in his termination from the show. If I or anybody else in my workplace behaved in that manner, the dismissal would be immediate. Being a celebrity does not excuse such behavior in the work place or any place else. I hope the director and the producers have the guts to do what is right and get rid of him before he ruins the show for the entire cast and viewers. Maybe a stint in the unemployment line will make him rethink his behavior?
