Haley Joel Osment Cops a Plea in DUI Case

Haley Joel OsmentTMZ has learned that actor Haley Joel Osment has pled no contest to two misdemeanor charges stemming from a horrifying late car crash in July. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Osment plead no contest to one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of possession of marijuana.

Osment was sentenced to three years probation, 60 hours of alcohol rehab, six months of AA meetings (with a minimum of 26 meetings within that span of time) and was fined $1500 in penalties.

Osment, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in "The Sixth Sense" at age 11, lost control of his 1995 Saturn on his way home and collided with a brick pillar in a suburb of Los Angeles around 1 a.m. on July 20. No bystanders were injured in the wreck, but Osment wasn't so lucky: the actor was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was treated for a broken rib and an injury to his shoulder.

The collision caused the vehicle to flip over onto its roof and come to rest a short distance from the initial impact. The actor was reportedly alert and talkative following the accident, and was alone at the time of the crash.

16. you guys are all gay and need to leave this kid (and all the other celebrities) alone. they didn't do anyhting to you. so he screwed up, it happens, if this happened to me you wouldn't be discussing it here. The fact of the matter is, its not that he caught a break because he's a celebrity, its the fact that you believe because he's a celebrity and lives a wealthier more flashy life than you, that when he screws up he should be punished ten times as hard. thats not fair. you guys are just bitter. i repeat, leave them alone, it's none of your business.

21. I realize calling a TMZ reporter a journalist is, at best, a stretch. But buy a dictionary for crying out loud. You cannot collide with a stationary object.

26. He's a normal human being, like the rest of us, despite his Hollywood status. In my opinion, he got a very severe penalty. Leave him alone. He'll learn when & if he's ready. he's a good guy. Give him a break already.

29. I dont know what anyone is talking about when they say he got off easy. In San Francisco, you have to practically kill someone to go to jail! DUI? probation and a suspended license, thats all .....This guy did not get off. He got what everyone gets. Should celebrities pay MORE in fines that an average person would?
