World-renowned dog trainer Cesar Millan is taking some serious heat for methods used on his hit show "Dog Whisperer." The American Humane Association recently deemed some of Millan's techniques "inhumane, outdated and improper." Now, as the show gets ready to launch its third season, TMZ has learned that the widely respected organization tried to get the show pulled from the air.
The group claims they were forced to take action after witnessing "numerous inhumane training techniques" on the show, including one instance where they claim a dog was partially asphyxiated after it was pinned to the ground by its neck. "We wanted National Geographic to pull the show" Bill Torgerson, Vice President of Animal Protection Services for American Humane Association, tells TMZ.
But the National Geographic Channel stands behind their star, claming that owners of several of the allegedly "abused" animals contacted them and praised Cesar for his work. When contacted by TMZ, the channel pointed out that the show has received a seal of approval from multiple respected professionals and animal organizations.
TMZ has learned that as a result of the AHA's concern, the show will now feature a cautionary statement to remind viewers "There are many methods of dog training and owners should work with professionals to choose the right approach for them."
Torgerson tells TMZ that they are still working closely with the network on "eliminating the broadcasting of certain techniques" but they've stopped their push to pull the show entirely.
Season three of "Dog Whisperer" debuts Monday on the National Geographic Channel.

Okay lets get this straight this was NOT the Humane Society...this is another group who purposely chose a name very simular to them. Now if the AKC came out with a statement saying his techniques were wrong I might take a closer look .
If people look hard enough they will always find something to disagree with or complain about.
This is so absurd, Everyone with a brain knows that Ceasar Milan is excellent with animals, Dont even worry bout this people! Everytime we have someone doing good in society that has made a good name for themselves, someone comes up with some stupid crap just to try and knock em down, I think almost all famous people go thru this at one time or another, I dont doubt if its even created by the media, they love this stuff..anything for a story, and the American Humane Society is a joke!
I'm a fan of all the animal rescue shows and a fan of Cesar. As a dog owner he gets you to think from the dogs point of view which makes handling your dogs and training much easier. I've often whatched that show and said there is no hope for that dog but he turns them around. What about the other shows where they euthanize several animals an episode. Is PETA ok with them?
You people are insane to think that the entire world thinks that Ceasar is perfect. He is not, but what we have been exposed to has helped us as dog owners. Watching his show has helped me with the problems I was facing with my brand new puppy.
Everyone is human and no one can say that their technique is best or more civil. A dog is a dog. He is not a "person", and to see people treating a wild animal as a person is ridiculous. If you want to give true human love, adopt a child or become a foster parent, but understand that a dog is a "DOG". You love it, take care of it and your heart goes out to it when he is in pain, but HE IS NOT a person. They have different thought patterns and needs. They don't think like us, thus they deserve different treatment.
His methods work and that is why these dog trainers will tell you not to believe him, because it is taking money out of their pockets.
NO ONE IS PERFECT, AND NEITHER IS CEASAR, but the techniques I have used from his show has helped me tremendously with my dog. A dog that might have been placed in a shelter had it not been Ceasar. Ceasar has helped me realized that my dog is not a human and his needs and his demands and the way I communicate with him needed to be changed.
CEASAR stresses humans need to be conditioned and changed not really the pets.
I am not a dog owner and haven't been since 1962. I heard of the "Dog Whisperer" and was curious. He's WONDERFUL!!! I would pay to send a friend to him who was having trouble with their dog. I watch for the sheer enjoyment of what Cesar Milan does. Now, I also watch "Animal Planet" and they have some programs about animal police. Where are you PETA when vicious, cruel so-called human beings do HEINOUS things to poor, innocent animals. Some of these peple get what is considered a slap on the wrist for their actions because that's all the courts can do. Where are you then PETA?!!? I have NEVER heard of an incident where you went after the criminals and made public spectacles of them. Leave Cesar Milan alone to do the great work he's doing and you go get a real job. Shame on you PETA!!
Ceasar is great, i cant believe the way he is with dogs, he is great, and i cant believe this idiots that are going to complain about him, i watch his show all the time and dvr it when i cant, he always stresses that hes not hurting these dogs. i think these groups get bored and they have to look for someone to start trouble with, like they always did with steve irwin as well. it would be a huge upset if ceasars show is taken off . we love you here in national park new jersey ceasar!!!!!
The power of the pack makes sense because dog's respond best to their natural instincts of the pack mentality. I have become a better pack leader because of Cesar's way. Dealing with my male german shepard requires calm, assertive energy. The bond between this dog and me has become stronger because I practice exercise, discipline, and affection as he recommends. I have tried his correction techniques, and my dog respects me more. He is not hurt. I put the backpack on him and he becomes focused because he has a job. My body language and very little words, and assertive energy has proven to be extremely effective. I get compliments frequently when people see how I handle my dog. I am amazed at how Cesar's way really works and how it has made me a stronger person. His book, Cesar's Way, explains a lot in more detail. Try it, you'll be thankful. Do not try human psychology on a dog. It does not work! Dog psychology makes sense to a dog!
I watch the show. I like this guy. PETA is nuts to think this guy is an animal abuser. In Belize they throw poison meat to get rid of strays. Go there and
complain and leave this man ALONE!!!!!
Cesar has, that I am aware of never abused any dog. The American Humane should perhaps turn its Criticisms Cesar has, that I am aware of never abused any dog. The American Humane should perhaps turn its criticisms and comments inward and look at the manner in horses were treated on the set of the movie âFlickaâ. It has come to the attention of anyone who cares to look that the AHA has been taking money for the posting of their comments at the end of movies stating no animal were killed or harmed during the making of (what ever) movie that uses animals, yet on the set of the movie âFlickaâ their had been many horses that âdiedâ according to reports from the International Fund for Horses of horses being abused or killed on this set. Of course the AHA did not post its slogan at the end of this movie nor did they make any statement about the animals that were harmed, however they did take the cash and run. If they want to make comments about anyone or anything dealing animals I believe they need to start with themselves and leave those that are doing so much good for âlostâ dogs alone! Cesar has demonstrated a great knowledge about dogs and a great love of them. A dog that bites is not a good animal for any human and is a real danger for humans. In a like manner a dog that has no âmannersâ is not a good neighbor and needs to be corrected. The way Cesar handles this is proper and correct, he not only deals with the issues of the dog but also issues which the owners have in dealing with their dog(s)!
ANY organization that calls itself an animal welfare group that does not support Cesar Millan and applaud his efforts is not worth listening or contributing to.
OBVIOUSLY:
1) They do not pay attention to the show.
2) Do not understand animals.
3) Are interested in pushing their own agenda.
4) Are interested in getting more money for themselves.
5) They are just plain JEALOUS.
I am always amazed at how dogs who have never even seen this man before immediately positively respond to him.
You can't fool animals.
CESAR IS A DOG 'SAVER'!! One of my adopted from a foundation/kennel dogs had such a bad history of biting & agression, that he was deemed untrainable and to be put to sleep. My love for the dog, and Cesar's dedication and training saved his life. Within a month he had been rehabilitated and on his way to being man & other dogs best friend. 9 years without a single incident is tribute enough that Cesar's way is the best road any troubled canine could travel. Tough love may not look pretty, but people mess up dogs so often thank God there is someone who can save them. Ive experienced Cesar first hand and stand by his methods.
The only reason i can think of why these people are mad!!! is because the truth has been reaveled and it all has to do with $$$$.
its digging into their pockets. i thank NG for finding this guy he is an angle sent frm god for these dogs. he has also helped me and my sister to be a leaders in my family i wish he was my big bro. thx Ceasar for changing my life!!!!!!!!!!!. I BELIVE IN U....
"Outdated" ????? Overrated? Like dogs are supposed to conform to this out-of-control, human BREED of PC??? Just utterly ridiculous. Just butt-out, Human Society !! It was only a matter of time that someone would want to pounce on Cesar's success. Hope his show doesn't change !!
I've recently started to watch The Dog Whisperer. I find this show very informative, interesting and amazing. Understanding your pet is so important. We use human behavior and human thinking to train our pets. In the past I have had dogs that I didn't know how to get them to do what I wanted them to do and gave them up. When I met my husband he had two dogs. When his oldest dog Bijou became sick we got a Max a Cairin terrier so that Layla our healthy dog wouldn't be lonely. I learned so much with Bijou and Layla that I wanted Max to be well trained and not have problems that I had previously with other pets. I studied all that I could about dogs and I went through training to understand my dog. Caesar Millan is so great at showing you many different behaviors that can occur to your pet because of the human and their surroundings. Animals use their instincts and can sense things so much better than we do since we don't rely on our instincts as we should. To raise a good pet, a happy pet we need to think like they do. Caesar's tactics are humane and he is very in tuned to their needs. Everyone has different views and invariably our society is always ready to kick anyone who thinks differently or does things differently. America be open minded and look to the future.
