Celebrity Feuds
Oxy-Moron Limbaugh and Fox Ignite Stem Debate

Pill-popping conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh blasted Michael J. Fox recently for a political ad in which Fox supports stem-cell research. And now, right-wing cronies, celebrities, and even Jesus are taking sides against Fox and his position.

In Fox's ad, supporting Missouri Senate candidate Claire McCaskill (and other pro-stem-cell candidates), he sways and jerks uncontrollably, visible symptoms of his Parkinson's Disease. Limbaugh criticized Fox's spot as "purely an act," a remark for which he received a swift and vociferous backlash. (Limbaugh subsequently apologized.)

But today, on "Good Morning America," fellow right-wing lip-flapper Sean Hannity came to Limbaugh's defense, saying that Fox had a right to be criticized. (The National Parkinson's Foundation, in a statement issued to TMZ, explains that Fox's symptoms are actually the result of taking medication and that not taking meds would result in stiffness.)

And, in an ad airing during tonight's Game 4 of baseball's World Series, "Everybody Loves Raymond's" Patricia Heaton, Jim Caviezel (who played Jesus Christ in "The Passion of the Christ" and applies some Aramaic to his message here), and several pro athletes urge viewers to vote against Missouri's Amendment Two, which would provide constitutional protections against embryonic stem cell research.

61. You s-p libs need to look past your hatred and think twice before wishing death and disease on people w/ an opinion other than your own. By the way calling people like Bill O'Reilly, Limbaugh, and Hannity stupid or idiots is just ridiculous. The reason you go to hatred when upset is that you CANNOT win an argument because you are unable to seperate your emotion and look at the facts...By the way although Fox's illness is terrible, he is a Canadian, not an American, and he has admitted to not taking his pills before appearances. I'm sure you will still go around spouting your hate anyway, which further supports my thoughts. Good luck you smear-merchants

65. This is the letter I sent to Rush this afternoon...what an asshole he is!!

To: rush@eibnet.com
Your remarks about Michael J. Fox are ignorant, arrogant and self-serving. Obviously you don't know anyone personally who has PD. My husband passed away three years ago from the ravages of Parkinsons Disease.

The medication they are forced to take (Sinemet/Madopar) which allows them a bit of mobility from their frozen states causes horrendous side effects such as uncontrollable movements, spasms, spastic gestures, personality changes amongst many other miserable side effects. My husband would become very unstable on his feet and people would ask me if he had a drinking problem..he never drank, it was just another one of the horrors of PD.

Mr. Fox has been an advocate for stem cell research to try to find a cure for this debilitating, progressive neurologal disease. If you are trapped within a PD body you would do anything to try to find a cure..to offer a speck of hope. You cannot imagine how horrible this disease is. My husband was diagnosed with it in his early 60's but Mr. Fox is much younger and still wants a reasonable quality of life, perhaps a ray of hope. To say that Mr. Fox was putting on a performance for the camera is a sickening statement on your part and even die-hard Conservatives who are not immune to getting PD will not agree with your words.

I have been a life long Republican. Honestly, I must say your comments are completely out of line and very cruel.

The only good thing to come out of this is to make me wake up and realize what the Republican party truly stands for...something I want no part of.

You are an evil, vile and money hungry individual. I hope you wind up with Parkinsons in the near future so we can all comment on your acting abilities!

66. Hope-, you're obviously also another socialist type.

Otherwise you would have gone back and read what I actually said back to my first post, the replies I got. For merely having a differing opinion. And then you would have apologized for attacking me without having ANY idea of what you were talking about.

But you see no fault in yourself, typical. Point the finger at someone else quick!

67. Not only do I agree with Julia's comments but I hope others like Patricia Heaton and Jim Caviezel will speak up. Also no one can spew venom talk and foul language like liberals.

68. I listened to Rush on the radio the other day and I cannot believe anyone, conservative or otherwise would listen to this idiot. He is absolutely an idiot and he would be enough to make me vote democratic. His crazy rambling and nonsense, he sounds very uneducated and high on drugs. There is not an ounce of truth to anything he rambles on about and should be taken off the air. I have no respect for anyone who would listen to him. To attack Michael J Fox and insinuate he was faking when the man's condition has been getting worse over the past years is insane and cruel. Thanks Rush, I can't wait to vote now!

69. Rush Limpballs is a GOD to the mindless sheep of this country. He's a drug abusing, arrogant, pompous lying piece of human garbage.

He and Hannity are doing a great dis-service to this country by spewing hatred and being the mouthpieces for the worst administration this country has ever had to endure.

History will not be kind to said administration or to either one of those blow hards.

Until YOU or THEY have ever suffered from a neurological or physical disability you and they have no room to make judgements on otheres. Period.

70. To #36--BlackMetal,

Howard Stern is the most listened-to radio personality, not that loser, blow-hard Limbaugh. If you don't believe me here's some info on that:

Just thought you'd like to know....

71. Interesting how Hannity and Limbaugh can criticize what they don't have a shadow of understand in the magnitude of MJ Fox's condition. Why?? They can. They are power media types given abilities to act in this fashion by supporters of whatever wing they fly on. Until they get stricken which such a life altering illness they'll remain ignorant buffoons.

Freedom of speech and the need for Stirring controversy aside. Sensationalism has become a mainstream ethic in this country and it is a repugnant and a festering disease. Like Oprah, Paris, Madonna, or anyone else grabbing for that marketing minute or radio buzz. It has become a shameful exercise of stupidity and lack of respect for people as a whole.

72. Dear Lulu,

Yes Rush is number one. If you read your own link you'd see Howard is number one in the segment "with web users." Over the whole radio spectrum Limbaugh is number one. This may be painful for you but Rush is the creator or revolutionary that revitalized AM talk radio. Not only is he the best at his job but also the virtual savior of talk radio.

The Limbaugh tide has raised all boats.

74. Well, I live in Missouri, and I can't wait to vote a resounding no for this one. This is EMBRYONIC stem cells. I can't support creating life to kill it when no useful cures or research have come from this anywhere. Mouth off all you want, but I get to cast my opinion where it counts -- at the polls.

Posted at 10:32PM on Oct 25th 2006 by RB

75. Boy-it must be nice to be one of these rich, uneducated people in the opposing ad who can sit back and decide what stem cell research is and what it is not. Have any of them ever even read a medical journal? Or known anyone with any of the debilitating illnesses science is trying to cure? No, they're too busy getting tummy tucks and facials ,living the high life and literally playing God. I hope people like Patricia Heaton are praying every night that none of their children ever get any of these crippling afflictions. Maybe then we'll see the ads with them begging for the research.
