Celebrity Feuds
Oxy-Moron Limbaugh and Fox Ignite Stem Debate

Pill-popping conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh blasted Michael J. Fox recently for a political ad in which Fox supports stem-cell research. And now, right-wing cronies, celebrities, and even Jesus are taking sides against Fox and his position.

In Fox's ad, supporting Missouri Senate candidate Claire McCaskill (and other pro-stem-cell candidates), he sways and jerks uncontrollably, visible symptoms of his Parkinson's Disease. Limbaugh criticized Fox's spot as "purely an act," a remark for which he received a swift and vociferous backlash. (Limbaugh subsequently apologized.)

But today, on "Good Morning America," fellow right-wing lip-flapper Sean Hannity came to Limbaugh's defense, saying that Fox had a right to be criticized. (The National Parkinson's Foundation, in a statement issued to TMZ, explains that Fox's symptoms are actually the result of taking medication and that not taking meds would result in stiffness.)

And, in an ad airing during tonight's Game 4 of baseball's World Series, "Everybody Loves Raymond's" Patricia Heaton, Jim Caviezel (who played Jesus Christ in "The Passion of the Christ" and applies some Aramaic to his message here), and several pro athletes urge viewers to vote against Missouri's Amendment Two, which would provide constitutional protections against embryonic stem cell research.

77. I do feel empathy for people in these situations, but we cannot (should not) try to cure each and every disease out there. If we could cure everyone, this world would be so extremely overpopulated, we would not be able to exist.

78. GLews71--what a dumb ass comment!! Should we only try to cure certain diseases that you approve of or that might affect only your family? Perhaps you have guns and want to kill to cull the over population? Obviously you are an ignorant, uneducated person. If you want to control the over population then I suggest you don't reproduce!

79. if someone doesnt agree with stem cell research, dont have anything to do with it, but dont expect anyone else to give a crap about what you think

80. Wow! I can't believe so many people are getting all bent out of shape over what Mr. Limbaugh says. Personally, I'm not political, I believe (KNOW) that both parties are corrupt and it doesn't matter who gets in. I would listen to Rush on my lunch break and found him very entertaining and comical. I never took anything he said serious, the same as I would from a extreme left wing jaw jabberer. He's made quite a successful career from his shock jock radio show, the numbers don't lie. The really funny thing is all the right wing and left wing morons who take him seriously. Rush is laughing all the way to bank, while watching his ratings soar!

81. All of the anti-stem cell research celebrities airing this drivel enjoy good health, so its easy for them to foist their religious extremism on us. So, naturally, the only rational course left is for us to pray to blessed Jesus that Patricia Heaton and those other numbnut nobodys contract inoperable anal cancer as soon as possible. Then, and only then, do I want to see their ugly twisted scarred-up asses on TV telling me what to do. Please, sweet Jesus, do this for us. In your name we pay.

82. The point isr egardless if he took his meds or not no one should HAVE to take medecine to appear normal, period. As a Christian AND a liberal I feel that everyone needs to take a step back and remember one of my favorite of the Ten Commandments..."Thou Shalt Not Judge." It is not our place to say what is wrong or right in this world.

83. Rush is God. I loved the way he imitated Fox on TV, shaking and gyrating around, LOL! Shake, rattle and roll, Rush! Shake, rattle and roll!

84. All I know is that when I saw the commercial, I cried. It was extremely heart breaking to see Mr. Fox trembling and shaking the way he was. Of course, he didn't take his meds. The ideas is to see the affects of Parkinson's. My 13 year old son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 2 years ago. Before his diagnosis, I would have NEVER voted for stem cell research. But it is true when it is said that a mother will do anything for her child. I believe that a cure will be found for Diabetes, Parkinson's, and many other disease and stem cell research will play a huge part in that.

I'm sure I will get flamed for this comment...bring it on.

85. i find it ironic that all the talking heads who have come out not in favor of stem cell research and development are the same people blessed not to have to walk a mile in the shoes of mr. fox or anyone else for that matter who has a degenerative disease. limbaugh has no credibility ever since he committed the felonious act of prescription fraud. pat heaton should stick to what she does best, the inability to act and having plastic surgery as a hobby of choice. jim caviezel needs to realize that he is still not playing the role of jesus christ. jim, the filming of "the passion" has ended and just because you have the same initials as the man you once depicted does not still make you that man. that's the only thing you share with him. certainly it's not your pseudo-piousness. the other blah-blah-blahers for this anti-stem cell spiel must be professional athletes apparently involved in sports requiring taking one too many hits to the head with a spherical device of some kind. i'm sure all these people who are pleading with voters to vote nay on amendment two are native missourians btw. lastly, anyone who follows accurately stem cell research knows that scientists in the field have synthetic prototypes available that have nothing to do with the "harvesting" of ovum. anyone ever hear of recombinant DNA? that's how they make insulin for people with diabetes. so unless you have something like rheumatoid arthritis, macular degeneration, multiple sclerosis, diabetes mellitus, parkinsons, etc., then perhaps you should keep mum about the subject of stem cell research. it's kinda like men getting involved in the abortion issue (uh, sorry fellas, this is really just for the women to debate).

86. I'd like to know when they're going to find a cure for cancer. Did we forget about the big C ? How many millions/billions have we spent on finding a cure for cancer? You know what, I really don't give a shit anymore. We're all born to die and when our time is up it's up, period. These fucking celebrities really piss me off because they only champion a cause when they get affected by it! FUCK EM! More air for the rest of us to breathe!!!

87. After seeing wiggle his hands and body on air why has he not been fired Clear Channel Needs to do something about him now!!! If not boycotts will start I think he needs to be arrested for his past drug charges and not allowed to be on radio no more.

A preacher on hate michael should file charges on that scum of the earth!

88. Micheal has Tardive Dyskenisia, it is from the meds, irreversible side -affects , causing the jerky movements and the tremors. He needs the meds, so he must live with the side-affects, otherwise he wouldn't even be able to walk or his speech would be affected. Let's hope for a cure for Parkinson's, and I applaud his stance. Rush needs to be more liberal and get informed.

90. Should we really be surprised that a true idiot like Rush Limbaugh actually came up with one more moronic comment that proves he has no business being part of the human race?? I have never been more ashamed to be a Republican (though I use that term VERY loosely these days) and that is saying quite a lot at this particular moment in history. WHY do we give an idiot like that a forum?? I am entirely for free speech, but I don't think the guy needs any media time unless he pays for it himself! As for the stem cell debate, I think we should all step back and remember the adage "first do no harm". Stem cell research does not necessarily mean an embryo has to be destroyed; it can come from cord blood and from already established "lines" of cells for research. If the current embryos that are now stored are going to be destroyed anyway, shouldn't we make some good use of them? No matter WHAT your believe about the embryos, it seems so much more ethical to let some good come from them. It seems then, the argument should not be WHETHER or not to do the research, but rather under what conditions the research should go forward. All of us have been touched by disease and death; think about it! In a world where hatred is rife, family values are a dirty word, and we are destroying the planet we live on, is THIS really the issue we want to spend time arguing about??
