"Law & Order" Takes on Mel

Chevy Chase: Click to watchMel Gibson's infamous drunken tirade will be re-enacted on primetime -- by Chevy Chase.

In next week's episode of "Law & Order", the comedian plays a TV actor who is pulled over for drunk driving, and just like Mel, the character's anti-Semitic side is exposed after his arrest.

"I'm obviously somewhat ripped from the headlines. My character is clearly a bigot against the Jewish community" says Chase, "I've never said 'Jew' so much in my life, 'Jew cop,' 'Jew' this, 'Jew' that. That's the way it's come out, it's clearly related somewhat to the headlines."

The tirade is clearly inspired by Gibson's anti-Semitic rant during his DUI arrest in August, when he spouted off comments like, "the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world."

This, of course, isn't the first time the show has skewered a celeb -- this season's premiere featured a "young pop princess who has a reputation for being careless with her baby." Sound familiar?

32. This show use to be worth watching, not any more. It's like watching a favorite relative getting sicker and sicker. I don't know about any bias but I cant watch. I guess after 20 years everything gets a bit stale and tired.

35. Lisa, you should give up masturating over Mel. He's really trash, and you shouldn;t think for a minute that he even thinks about losers like you. Get on another kick, for God's sake. You're boring the hell out of us with your defense of this hateful atrocity.

36. I almost hate to say it becaue I have loved and watched L&O for years but me thinks the show has jumped the shark. I like what #32 wrote.....very fitting. Jerry Orbach was my absolute favorite, loved him, loved him. Felt bad when he left the show, felt worse when he died.

I watched the "Britney" episode and it pretty much sucked. I may watch the "Mel" show to check it out but I rarely watch the show at all now.

Ever wonder how much money Dick Wolf has made off all his L&O's???

37. Jennifer, your insipid comments are really quite ojectionable. I seem to recall you also had a "thing" for Mel,.How come the 180-degree turn? Did you try to contact him, and get rebuffed? You're not only ridiculous, you're thoroughly obnovious. Your postings tend to nauseate me..

38. DROP THE MEL-ODRAMA, PLEEEEEEZE!
yes, folks, catholicism is attacked every single day, christianity is attacked every day, ( and by people who are culturally christian, too!)...people are attacked, and offended every day. my gosh, how to milk this one!

noone is suggesting that what he did was right, but we ARE suggesting that it's OVER! let's see, LIFE OF BRIAN is a complete satire of christianity, and jesus...do you see us crying? not all jews are perfect, and not all christians are either. he made a mistake, drop it!

39. he did NOT trash the jewish faith. he trashed what he believes are behaviors. you may, or may not agree. he was loud, obnoxious, drunk, and spoke his mind, to which he is entitled.

40. I notice when non minorities get offended they never forget it (see Al Sharpton or Spike Lee) but when a minority of any kind gets offended they're quickly told to "get over it". If some Jewish actor went on a rampage about whites, this board would be filled with folks protesting his movies and calling him a a*shole. You really can't tell people not to be offended by anything. Nobody left anyone in charge of dictating to people what to be offended by. Put the shoe on the other foot and keep it moving...

44. To #26 & #27 - YIKES!!!! You are obviously one violent person. What an attack of idiocy you must be having in order to respond to someone's comments in such a low-life manner. I will never, ever understand anti-semiticism - quite frankly I think it is ridiculous. But, at the same time, I think remarks like yours are just as hideous and ridiculous as anything Mel Gibson said in his drunken state of mind. I hope you were drunk when you spouted out all of those stupidly hideous, ludicrous obscenities at Lisa. She has every right to her opinion, and that does not make her or anyone else that is sick of this subject a Nazi. Christians do believe in forgiveness - it is the crux of our faith. You should try it sometime.

45. what i think would be bad, is if mr. gibson would get so angry at the 'powers that be' in hollywood that he stops making movies in the usa and takes his money, charisma, and job making abilities to another local. maybe some people dont read the credits at the end of a movie, but i do and flop or not, a mel gibson movie project employs a LOT of people. i also think it is pretty low of law n order to make him out to be bad parent. unlike a lot of other celebs you dont here a lot of complaints in the media about his kids or him as a father. until now. i am no longer a fan or watcher of law and order.
