Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe Split

Reese and Ryan splitReese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have separated. The couple's rep released a statement to TMZ Monday morning that says "We are saddened to announce that Reese & Ryan have decided to formally separate. They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time."

Sources tell TMZ Witherspoon has contacted celebrity divorce lawyer Robert Kaufman, who has represented Jennifer Aniston, Roseanne and Lisa Marie Presley.

As for why Witherspoon contacted Kaufman, we're told it was not triggered by one event. Rather, one connected source says it was "cumulative."

Divorce papers have not yet been filed.

184. Re Reese and Ryan, you neglect to include an important option beyond "can't believe it" and "saw it coming." That is "I don't care one way or another." One might also add: "It is their personal business and there are far more compelling matters facing the world."

185. That is sad....I was rooting for this young couple. They seeemed nice together. Anyway isn't it ironic in Hollywood that couples that seem nice are the first to go - and others that had to be put together by Satan stay with each other longer? (Whitney & Bobby/Britney and KFed, etc...etc..). Wow.

186. OK kids,.. This is what happens when you get married too soon to know what marriage and "REAL PASSION" is all about. I'm happy for both of them .. I'm sure life right now isn't fun for either !!

191. Who Cares? Hollywood Actor's are so egotistic and narcisisstic and way over paid. It amazes me our Soldier's fighting and dying for our country and it's freedom's get paid so little to die for their country and the families get next to nothing upon their spouses demise. When 'Star's' start getting/commanding $20+ Mil. for each picture, it's ridiculous. Patrick Tilman is a good example of the true American spirit
and the Gov't. went and lied about his death. Sorry for rambling, I just don't care for the 'class' separation's in this country and how much (most people) idolize another ordinary human being. Our fighting men & women are super extroidinary and deserve better.

192. Reese has always been headed for stardom.... since she was about 13... i have watched her career closely...she is a downhome southern girl, with southern values... ryan is a fine actor, but a "fine actor" does not always a STAR make... She has that STAR factor... i dont know if he is a "laid back stoner" or not... and i dont care... he has always seemed very stressed at the awards shows... even when she hasnt WON... it is understandable when both people do the same thing for a living and one of them is CONSISTENTLY good and the other (even though he seems to take it more seriously sometime) is RARELY great in anything... and yes, i have always gotten that whole "bi-sexual" vibe from him... that does not make him a bad dad or a bad husband... but it DOES make him unfaithful and as i said, she has that whole southern background thing going... she wants her man to be HERS...not just some of the time... it is clear that they both love their children, but Ryan has never seemed as committed to the kids as she is... dont ANY Of you watch her on talk shows... she GUSHES about Ava and Deacon, he just wants to promote his newest SERIOUS role... oh, and by the way, whoever said she didnt deserve that Oscar, didnt watch the movie close enough... i hope they both find happiness, she deserves it and he NEEDS it... his career will NOT take off after the divorce the way Nicole Kidman's did... i dont think he is the WRONGED party here.... i definitely think she put up with him longer than most women would have...

MARRIAGES SHOULD LAST FOREVER , BUT THIS DAY AND AGE
I THINK ITS OVERRATED .

MY HUBBY AND I GOTTEN MARRIED AT 23 YEAR OLD ( SAME AGE ) AND WE BEEN MARRIED FOR 24 1/2 YRS NOW , THERE'S GOOD / BAD IN ALL MARRIAGE BUT YOU'VE TO WORK AT IT , AND MAKE IT HAPPEN . BEING MARRIED THIS LONG IS "RARE" , MAIN SOURCE SAID.

195. I am so sad to hear this!! I hate for any marriage to end. Why
can't we all just realistically be good and stay that way. Yeah,
we all change and go through different stages of life at different
times but that doesn't mean throw in the towel. I have a strong
belief that it's the trials that makes our relationships stronger
and even more special. Something to remember and think
about for once. There's too much focusing on the crap of it all
which is easy to do. It's just a quitter's way out to run go the
easy way and path of least resistance. What kind of character
is that? STAY TOGETHER PEOPLE, ESPEICIALLY YOU
FOLKS IN THE LIMELIGHT OF HOLLYWOOD! Adapt better
lifestyle, do whatever it takes to stay true to one another!!!!
