Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe Split

Reese and Ryan splitReese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have separated. The couple's rep released a statement to TMZ Monday morning that says "We are saddened to announce that Reese & Ryan have decided to formally separate. They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time."

Sources tell TMZ Witherspoon has contacted celebrity divorce lawyer Robert Kaufman, who has represented Jennifer Aniston, Roseanne and Lisa Marie Presley.

Reese and Ryan Photo GallerySources say Witherspoon spoke with Kaufman about divorcing Ryan Phillippe, her husband of seven years. The couple has two children. They met at Witherspoon's 21st birthday party.

As for why Witherspoon contacted Kaufman, we're told it was not triggered by one event. Rather, one connected source says it was "cumulative."

Divorce papers have not yet been filed.

197. I saw this one coming a mile away! These two have been having marriage problems for some time now. They even went to go see a marriage counselor to save their marriage about year ago but to no avail. 199. Wow, i cannot belive this . My boof called me when i was eating and i almost spit my frosted flakes outta my mouth . I loved this couple. They seemed so in love with eachother and i can't belive there ending there marraige after 7 years . I was really rooting for them . Poor kids Ava & Deacon. Maybe it was because she made millions more than him? or maybe ryan got a little frisky and had an affair . Marraiges never seem to last in Hollywood and its sorta sad. Even though im very upset about this split , walk the line is still my favorite movie & ryann is still amazingly hottttttt =) i hope they get back together .

207. I don't really follow a lot of the Hollywood couples, but do love her movies and always find it sad to hear about divorce when kids are involved. They are right not to stay together just for the kids sake as that can be even more damaging and remaining civil is obviously the right decision for their sake alone. One thing appears to be true is that Hollywood couples just don't make it - or at least not many do. It would be so hard to have your life in the spot light all of the time.
