Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe Split

Reese and Ryan splitReese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have separated. The couple's rep released a statement to TMZ Monday morning that says "We are saddened to announce that Reese & Ryan have decided to formally separate. They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time."

Sources tell TMZ Witherspoon has contacted celebrity divorce lawyer Robert Kaufman, who has represented Jennifer Aniston, Roseanne and Lisa Marie Presley.

Reese and Ryan Photo GallerySources say Witherspoon spoke with Kaufman about divorcing Ryan Phillippe, her husband of seven years. The couple has two children. They met at Witherspoon's 21st birthday party.

As for why Witherspoon contacted Kaufman, we're told it was not triggered by one event. Rather, one connected source says it was "cumulative."

Divorce papers have not yet been filed.

250. So sad, but I knew this was coming. Reese is such a mega superstar always protecting and encouraging her husband, while Ryan is in the back ground playing super small roles. I'm sure this story will be another typical man who couldn't handle his wifes success. Reese "You go girl"

251. You must be kidding. This was about as predictable as Affleck and Lopez. Clearly, all Hollywood romances die off, and this is expedited by a power shift in the marriage. Differences in personalities aside (most couples have different personalities), Affleck was/is on the way up, while J Lo is played out- for good. Reese clearly is on her way up and is FAR more popular and unique than Ryan will ever be. The fact remains he is nothing special, although seems like a nice guy. Reese is clearly more talented, or at the very least far more ambitious. In a marriage, it is ok if the man gets more fame & money, but when the woman does it unbalances the man/woman dynamic in which the man feels more threatened by the woman and the woman loses some of the high regard for her man. This has been the case in all parts of society, not just Hollywood.

I so can not believe that they are splitting I remember watching them in cruel intentions together, they are just so magical together and now this. I just can not believe it. Reese is so pretty and Ryan is so "HOT". I do not want to believe it.

Britney and K-Fed are not that bad they are just trying to have a family. But if they are still looking for a full time nanny, I think I am the one to call, I have great great references.
