Chris Rock Files for Divorce

Chris RockTMZ has learned that Chris Rock has begun divorce proceedings against his wife of nearly 10 years, Malaak Compton-Rock. TMZ is told that the comedian has hired a high-powered divorce attorney to represent him.

The couple, married in November of 1996, has two daughters -- 4 year-old Lola and 2 year-old Zahra. Malaak is the Founder and Executive Director of StyleWORKS; a non-profit, full-service salon that provides free services for women leaving welfare and entering the workforce.

When contacted, Rock's rep would only say "I cannot comment at this time."

Chris, best known for his stand-up comedy as well as for a controversial turn as the host of the 2005 Oscar telecast, once told NBC's Stone Phillips that marriage was "beautiful" but added, "If you're a guy, [your individual self] is dead. Get rid of you. Take yourself to the door and wave. Hey, see you later. It sounds horrible. I'm happier than I've ever been now that I've shot myself in the head."

Rock is currently in post-production for the film "I Think I Love My Wife."

46. Shut the hell up JJ ! Thats the reason some mo fos just rather date these chics instead of marrying them becuz it seems like all these chics is all about the money........I hope he gets to keep most of his dough(which is unlikely) but I hope he gives her enough good money to take care of the kids and enough for her to be ok, thats it not to live like a rich b...h!

47. Most of you come across as being "BITTER". How many of you know this couple personally? Yet you make such angry and hurtful comments. No one knows what happened in their marriage but them and their GOD. People should make such rude and hurtful comments. Just look at the republican party. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

49. It is funny to me how some of you have such negative comments on Chris and his wife's situation when none of you know what really happened in the marriage. I think it is just sad when two kids are about to go through the loss of their family unit. I wish them well and hope that they can work together to raise two healthy, strong and secure little ladies. The money and fame should take a back seat.

51. In reference to Chris Rock. Open your eyes. This happens so often to many men who have good women, who bore their children, were there in their cimb to success, nurtured them in troubled times, etc, then found favor in the fruit of another. Be it male or female. The bottom line is that divorce is such a hurtful experience. I pray that Chris will do the RIGHT thing and afford Malaak with financial support to match the lifestyle she grew accustomed to as well as his two children. If you try to hurt her, then you also hurt your children Chris. Don't allow your children to grow up bitter toward their father by not providing for them. This is a very serious choice since you stand the chance of damaging your career by not doing right. PLEASE DO RIGHT.

52. Are the marriage vows in Hollywood different than anywhere else? What ever happening to for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do us part.

These people were nothing when they got married, and all of a sudden they become stars and the wife they raved about on the way up, get thrown to the wolves. What are these people thinking. They keep on producing kids, and then the poor kids are left to be raised by one parent.

What is in the water in Hollywood that makes these people so stupid. Not only are they ruining their children's lives but the poor wife who sat home while they were becoming famous and now have no career to fall back on. Thank God in Hollywood everything is split 50/50, unless of course they are smart enough to have a pre-nup.

I have been with my husband for 26 years. They were not always easy, we struggled financially, we could not stand to look at each other at times, at times all we had to eat were those 10 cent packages of soup to eat and popcorn, we struggled with illness, both his and mine, but we worked it out together. Any idiot can walk away from a marriage, but it takes special people to make a marriage work.

55. I have adored Neil Patrick Harris since his Doogie Houser days; and I like him even more on his new show. The man has enormous talent, class, and a great sense of humor. I do not care one whit that he is gay. He's a great guy.

57. Over 50% of all marriages fail, so if you're married and know someone else that's married chances are either you or them will be divorce before you seventh anniversary. So quit pointing you're fingers and wise up. Marriage seldom last forever.
