Britney Spears has filed a petition for divorce from Kevin Federline. 
TMZ obtained the legal papers, filed today in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing "irreconcilable differences." In her petition, Spears asks for both legal and physical custody of the couple's two children, one-year old Sean Preston and two-month old Jayden James, with Federline getting reasonable visitation rights.
As for money, sources tell TMZ the couple, who married in Oct. 2004, has an iron-clad prenup. Not surprisingly, Spears is waiving her right to spousal support. She's also asking the judge to make each party pay their own attorney's fees.
Spears gives the date of separation as yesterday, the same day she flaunted her incredible revamped physique during a surprise appearance on David Letterman's show. Sources tell TMZ there was no single reason for Britney pulling the plug, rather, it was "a string of events." 
Spears has hired powerhouse celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, who has repped a number of celebs, including Angelina Jolie, Nick Lachey and Kiefer Sutherland. We're told Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe asked Wasser to rep both of them in their split, but Wasser declined for personal reasons.
Significantly, Britney lists the date of her marriage as October 6, 2004. There was an uproar around the time of the wedding because the highly publicized "secret" ceremony was held on Sept. 18th, leading many to question the validity of the ceremony. Now the divorce documents indicate that the lavish ceremony was not the official wedding.

Turns out Kevin was just a sperm donor. Britney is a hopeless (misguided) romantic who always wanted to be married and have kids. Well, now she's got the kids and she finally came to her senses and dumped that good-for-nothing husband she married (and most of the weight she gained getting knocked up over the past two years). I'm not a real Britney fan, but I say, "Now it's time get on with your life, Britney."
Oh, and best of luck finding another gravy train like that one, K-Fed. Although if I was guaranteed $10M in my pre-nup, I would have married Britney, too!
From the look of Kevin in some recent pics, my guess is that he is POSSIBLY consuming some heavy pharmaceuticals. I could be wrong, I don't know, just around the eyes, his white skin tone (prison pallor) and general malaise, oh yeah, and the way he always has a drink in his hand. Now he will probably also have a few women on his arm, and hey, maybe that's the good life for him, but Kevin, 4 babies need a daddy also. I hope it works out. Britney, all the best! Your talent is massive, always has been.

Yes it is about time. I am so glad Britney wised up. Although I wished she would have seen this coming before she married him. Hello, look at his past. Anyway, she did get two beautiful boys out it, and I know she wouldn't trade that for anything. I just hate they will have a deadbeat dad for the rest of thier life. As a mother of two children 12 months apart, also, she will have her hands full for the next two years!! Good Luck Brit! If I can do it, You can do it! It will be harder without a dad around, but, it seems like he was never around anyway. That energy stressing over him is gone and you can focus on your boys!
to number 30 ten mill gone in two years? give it a year, if he can spend 3 million in a month imagine 10 mill, maybe even 4 or 5 months, but since he's alone now he might make it to two years, and just maybe he'll be able to use that money to help out his other two kids, freakin' loser! good thing britney can keep the kids, cause she has the money.
I really believe Britney is young and has the same dream all girls have...she deserves to be loved and treated with respect and Kevin certainly showed no signs of that...For the childrens sake I hope they both make decisions that will benefit the children first and themselves last...
I'm never a fan of divorce, but WHEW! I thought this was another Whitney and Bobby story. At least she woke up before she wasted 15 years of her life and screwed up her kids' heads!

I'm gonna bust a friggin vessle. First off, the majority of you are complete idiots. What is up with the whole "Britney stole Kevin from Shar....so now she's getting what she deserves" crap? Britney is the one who is getting the flippin divorce. How in the hell would you people know the reasons behind it? You are all acting as if the seperation is soooooooo damn shocking. I saw this coming two years ago.
I honestly think now that Britney has the kids that she always wanted, she no longer have use for Kevin. Not to mention the fact that her career is starting to revive. If Britney did this as a publicity stunt, then I must say that she is very smart. The whole world is disgusted by Kevin. Thus, view this supposed music career of his as a complete joke. Britney on the other hand, still has millions of adoring fans that still love her. Divorce is not always the right way to go because what God would like married couples to do is try their best to work it out.

well it's not like he was ever around his kids, how many times did you see him with sean preston? my point exactly. so the kids since they're babies won't even know he's gone. it's good they're young. it's a darn shame that his other two kids are being picked on at school because he is a lowlife. they are constantly asking why did dad leave, it's because he wanted money little kiddies, hopefully your mom (shar) will find someone that's good to her and take care of the kids. all four of his kids are cute it's just they all look like him! what a nasty reminder.
