R&B Crooner Gerald Levert Dies at 40

Singer Gerald Levert has died at his home in Newbury, Ohio, according to his record label Atlantic Records.

His family tells local news sources that it appears Levert died in his sleep, possibly of a heart attack. He was 40 years old.

Levert, who was the son of Eddie Levert, the lead singer and a founding member of the O'Jays, had his most famous hit with "I Swear," penned by David Foster. Gerald sang with his brother Sean and Marc Gordon in the R&B trio LeVert, with whom he had several number one singles on the Billboard R&B charts, including "Casanova," and had a hit duet with his father, "Baby Hold on to Me."

41. First I would like to send my sincere condolences to Gerald Leverts family and friends. It is another SAD day in R&B, another true soul singer has been silenced. Let me just say that I am a huge fan of his work from his days with Levert, LSG and his solo albums. You are and will be dearly missed by all. REST IN PEACE

42. I just heard the news and went to TMZ to confirm. I was praying it was a "rumor", but sadly it wasn't. I LOVE all Gerald's music. I am a long time fan of the O'Jays and it was amazing to me how much Gerald sounded like his "Daddy". Definitely the talent was in "The Bloodline".

There must be one hell of a concert going on in heaven - Barry White, Lou Rawls, Rick James, Luther Vandros and now God called Gerald to join them!

44. I could not believe it when my husband called me and asked me if I heard about Gearld Levert. The next thing he said was that he died I have not been right since. I am as we speak downloading his songs on my ipod and will make a CD to play in my car tomorrow. When I think of gearld I think about the time that he and his father sung wind beneath my wings that is the picture I will keep in my head of him. I am praying for his family God bless his soul.
