R&B Crooner Gerald Levert Dies at 40

Singer Gerald Levert has died at his home in Newbury, Ohio, according to his record label Atlantic Records.

His family tells local news sources that it appears Levert died in his sleep, possibly of a heart attack. He was 40 years old.

Levert, who was the son of Eddie Levert, the lead singer and a founding member of the O'Jays, had his most famous hit with "I Swear," penned by David Foster. Gerald sang with his brother Sean and Marc Gordon in the R&B trio LeVert, with whom he had several number one singles on the Billboard R&B charts, including "Casanova," and had a hit duet with his father, "Baby Hold on to Me."

54. To the family of Gerald Levert I will keep your family In my prayers I went and saw his concert at the paramount theatre in Oakland, Ca. and his dad was In concert with him. Gerald had a voice and a smile that would make you instantly love everything about him. I lost my mom in 2005 and I feel like I lost a family member that just the way he made you fill like he was part of your family. I have been a fan every since he started in the business when you see him In concert It's like watching his dad perform he was so much like his dad. To his children and I will pray a prayer for you guys for god to touch you and hold you up and keep you strong. To his dad mom brother and other family memeber I will be praying for you too. As your fan Gerald I luv you and I will truly miss you but you are In heaven and you have your wings you special angel. RIP In peace.

56. Gerald Levert was an exceptional artist and is gone at the prime of his life. We need to wake up because we are slowly losing our black legends way before their time. Luther Vandross, Barry White, Lou Rawls, and many more greats. My heart goes out to his family who I know needs all the support they can get especially his father to sooth a heart with a bond so close. Their version of wind beneath my wings played at my grandfather's funeral and ever since then they have both remained musicians close to my heart.

58. NOT AGAIN!! THIS IS GETTING TO BE TOO MUCH. IF HE HAD A HEART ATTACK, I WONDER IF HE KNEW THAT HE HAD HEART DISEASE OR IF HE JUST DIED NOT KNOWING THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH HIM. SCARY! HE HAD SUCH A SOULFUL VOICE, ALMOST A CARBON COPY OF HIS FATHER, EDDIE LEVERT. THIS IS GETTING SCARY BECAUSE WE ARE LOSING SOO MANY OF THE GREAT SOULFUL ARTISTS OF YESTERDAY. MY CONDOLENCES GOES OUT TO EDDIE LEVERT AND THE LEVERT FAMILY!

59. this is so shocking, i went to the letoyaonline.com and the main page had his picture and i was thinking maybe they are touring together and at the bottom it shows his birth and death and my heart just dropped, and the first thing i think is rumor and i started doing searches on google and everywhere it says he passed away. you look at these people and they are just so phenomenal and powerful and you forget that they are human just like you and me and that even though they have millions and billions of dollars, God will still take you when it is time that he needs you to come home, so even though his journey is done on this earth he has a new one at the pearly gates with God, you will be truly missed rip.
