R&B Crooner Gerald Levert Dies at 40

Singer Gerald Levert has died at his home in Newbury, Ohio, according to his record label Atlantic Records.

His family tells local news sources that it appears Levert died in his sleep, possibly of a heart attack. He was 40 years old.

Levert, who was the son of Eddie Levert, the lead singer and a founding member of the O'Jays, had his most famous hit with "I Swear," penned by David Foster. Gerald sang with his brother Sean and Marc Gordon in the R&B trio LeVert, with whom he had several number one singles on the Billboard R&B charts, including "Casanova," and had a hit duet with his father, "Baby Hold on to Me."

77. My heart and prayers go out to the family, expecially his wife and father Eddie. I know what it's like to loose a loved one. May the Lord be with you during this time of sorrow. The song "Something From Nothing" was the turning point for me. I will always remember Gerald for that.

81. Gerald was more than a great singer. He was a talented and normal human being that loved life and family came first. Through his career his love for God and family prevailed and he showed the world his true side, he was just Gerald. He was very respectful and will be deeply missed. God has bigger plans for those he decides to take off of this earth. To the family please stick together and stay strong. God can only heal your soul but be reminded that your memories of Gerald will forever heal your heart. In your time of sorrow, I send my deepest sympathy to the Levert family. God Bless you all!!!!!

83. I have been a fan of Eddie and Gerald Lavert since the beginning, I love the way that he entertains all the energy that he puts into every performance, always giving his fans the very best of him (just like his dad). It's funny, I was just on google the other day trying to see when he would be in Los Angeles performing so that I could purchase my tickets. This man will truly be missed. My prayers and condolences go out to his family.

84. Gerald was such an inspiration to me and my family. We love all of his music and his father too. I first heard of his passing on Friday on the way to Atlanta Ga. I was so excited about having a weekend get away and when I heard the news my heart became so saddened with grief about the news.

87. Gerald Levert gave us full bodied music from a full bodied man. His style was call and response, give and take, a blues/gospel/soul fusion always celebrating women. HIs concerts were passionate, his songs lyrical, and spatially balanced. His was a big sound, yet not overpowering, sexy yet respectful. He was truly one of a kind.

88. I am so very deeply saddened, heartbroken, stunned, shocked and in total disbelief to hear of the great Gearld Levert's passing. I still think it's some bad dream that I'm having, that I'm going to wake up and it all be mistake, that Gearld really isn't gone at all. I just can't stop crying when I watch anything on Gearld, because he was such a great person. This is indeed such a tremendous lost to the music industry, because Gearld was like no other singer or artist out there today, he was such a tremendously talented man, person, singer, artist, composer and producer that the world has ever known. He indeed brought so much to the music industry, from his days when he was in Levert, with his brother Sean and long time friend Marc, to his days as a solo artist, Gearld kept showing the whole world that he was some one to be listened to and heard with his oh so sexy style, down to earth soulfulness, because Gearld was indeed timeless and when Gearld smiled at you, your heart would melt. Gearld gave the world a life time of music to enjoy, he loved what his did, he enjoyed the music he could share with his many fans, and he set out to do what he did best and that was to please us and please us his did over and over again. Now that Gearld has passed away, it will be very, very difficult, especially for me, to even think of music for now on with out thinking of Gearld Levert. I really love Gearld because he was one of my very favorite singers of all times and even tho I never had the pleasure to be able to met Gearld, I feel that he was a great person, man, artist and singer and no will be able to replace him ever. It is very hard and so difficult for me to completely understand how someone as stong and talented as Gearld Levert, with a heart of gold, could have passed away so suddenly at such a young age of 40. My heart goes out to all of Gearld's family members, close friends, because Gearld had many and also for anyone who ever had the pleasure to work with him, let alone that knew him well. Gearld will be forever and indeed truly greatly missed by me and everyone else and even tho Gearld is now gone and no longer with us today, he and his music will live on in everyones hearts. " LONG LIVE GEARLD LEVERT ", may you never be forgotten or far from our hearts as well. You are by far one of the most talented singers, artist, man and person that ever lived on the face of the earth and may your voice always be heard now and forever, until the end of time.
