Leno Takes His Swings at Michael Richards

Jay LenoA day after Michael Richards apologized on "The Late Show with David Letterman," Jay Leno took to "The Tonight Show" stage and delivered a few zingers at the expense of the man we know as "Kramer."

"I had a horrible gig last night," Leno began. "I had to follow Michael Richards at The Laugh Factory."

But Leno didn't stop there. He continued, "As you know, Michael Richards said some very offensive things at a comedy club the other night in Hollywood. People were booing, yelling, some got up and walked out. Of course, people waiting outside for the second show had no idea what was going on. They just assumed Carrot Top was on stage."

Check out Leno's jokes for yourself on tonight's episode of "The Tonight Show."

31. I'm quite aware what Richards said was wrong...

I am also quite aware that on the tape he (Richards) was being called "white boy" (what is the purpose of that??? we are ALL aware he is white...) and also a Cracker ( ...hmm..racist name too) so Richards is NOT the only one at fault...

if you don't (as a black person) like to be called a nigger, then why sing it in all your songs if it's such a "terrible" word...either stop chanting it, singing it, rapping it...or the word will never die....DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all blacks do is glorify the word when saying Hi to their black friends (ex: What up my nigga??) but cannot be used any other way....Hmmmm.....if you don't like the word, why say it?????????

34. am a seinfield fan...and michael richards as kramer is one of my favorites. I find him the funniest. Even as a comedian or even acting as a clown whose job is to make people laugh, the face behind that mask, is a human being vulnerable to commit mistakes as terrible as what michael did. Richard had apologized. He was sincere with his apology. "to err is human but to forgive is divine. The public should forgive Michael Richards and expect him to control his temper on stage. His mistakes had made him so sick...i believe, this is more than enough for him to learn his lesson.

35. Jinxy Cat,
Are you really as dumb as you sound? No, you can't possibly be! Put your thinking cap on and see if you can grasp this concept. When black people use the n word toward each other it's a term of endearment. When white people use the n word toward black people it's meant as racist and derogatory. The intent is what matters. It's not rocket science. Get it!!

38. You asked for it...and here it is!

The poster who goes by the name "Jim Crow" is the same poster who up to a week or so was using the name "Freddy Jr." We want all our loyal TMZ friends to know that we are aware of this person and we are monitoring his post: if he continues to violate TMZ Terms of Use policy, he may be blocked.
Thank you,

39. Ditto # 43...Can't stand the "CHIN MAN".

40. Oh...Ok #40 (Scott)...
So when they called Michael Richards a Cracker...what did that mean?
granted, Richards used the word in a poor manner, But why aren't the blacks apologizing to him as well...Cracker is, after all a derogatory comment...

Where I work, a man was suspended for a day without pay for calling a black guy a nigger, But the black guy was also suspended for calling the white guy a honky...Don't dish the word (in good terms or bad) if you can't handle the word used out of context....

41. I love Jay Leno. I watch his show every night. All of the talk show hosts will be talking about Michael Richards.

42. I agree that Richards is probably not racist either. He DID majorly screw up. He IS probably feeling like a complete schmuck. Will I fogive him? I DON'T EVEN KNOW HIM, and NEITHER does anyone else in here. I loved KRAMER! I remember in college we would all watch Seinfeld in the dorms and it was a funny show. Just because Michael Richards acted like a major asswipe doesn't necessarily mean he is a racist. He used the N-Bomb. That is a no no and we all know it. As for rappers? Most of them are an embarrassment to their race and African American's over 30 KNOW that. Funny thing is, a VAST amount of rap CD's are purchased by white kids.

The N-Bomb is kinda like a nuclear weapon. It shouldn't be used and if it is, get the F*&K outta the way cuz ALL HELL is going to break loose. PERIOD

43. Richards is patently a racist, condemned by his own mouth. The words, the nature of the words, and ESPECIALLY the tone used to deliver the words reveals ALL.

Worse, his Letterman "apology" was shockingly warped. The man made reference to "Afro-Americans" and "the blacks." The specific choice of wording indicates a man who categorizes people specifically along "me vs. them" racial lines ("THE blacks" instead of "blacks," which given the circumstances, even using "blacks" would have been really ignorant in a serious public apology).

Moreover, Richards uses hilariously outmoded terms ("Afro?") as another indication of his personal bigotry. There is no excuse for a man with his very long and worldly experience in the highly diverse entertainment industry to make such errors in a taped "apology" and close it off with: "I didn't say it out of bigotry, I said it out of rage!"

That's simply the most ass-brained explanation I, personally, have ever heard. If you "rage" on someone who has angered you, you don't rage right into a specific racial attack unless you've got ISSUES.

Richards has got 'em. And NO apology for that kind of tirade (and lame apology!) is EVER going to turn back the clock. I hope he's saved all his "Kramer money" and has some REAL nice residual deals. He's an embarrassment to the Seinfeld show, retroactively. I caught a rerun this evening and saw him, and there was an instant "ick" feeling...and I certainly wasn't trying to feel it.

The world, if it is going to remain even semi-civilized, is going to have to start learning that NO ONE should act like absolute filthy trash in public, much less treat others that way, based solely on the bodies people happen to be born with. People have a right to say what they please, but there will always be consequences. ALWAYS.

44. Boy, just like a bunch of chickens attacking the wounded, might as well as go in for the kill when he's down. The hyprocites are out in force. We are disgusted with Mel Gibson's comments, We despised Michael Richards response to hecklers (who also made racial slurs--but those are ignored). Yet we defend the right to refuse to permit American Muslims fly on an airline because they looked suspcious for praying before boarding. These men did absolutely nothing wrong, and yet because of 911--anyone who is of Arab descent (or even appears to be) or is Muslim is expected to understand our irrational fear of them and give up their American rights. Americans say that they are not prejudice, but are keeping Borat as their # 1 movie. How is it that you can be entertained by dumb racist antics if you were not laughing along with it? Yes, Michael Richards wasn't right to say what he did. And the comedy club has a right to refuse to permit him on their stage again, but why doesn't the club take action against hecklers sprewing hateful racist words towards the entertainer? If I was sitting next to audience members who were being disruptive and vile, it would not make me feel very comfortable. These hecklers should have been throw out of the club for disorderly conduct. Hecklers are not only rude to the presenter, but to all of those in the audience as well for disrupting the entertainment that they paid for. Lets not have different classes for racism. If you are going to pretend to hate racist comments, then put firm boundaries on all racist behaviors not just a couple of protected classes. Its all vile.
