Richards' Rant -- What You Didn't See

301. To my friend Lou:

I am not sure of the exact point in time at which the two gentlemen decided to commence an action against Mr. Richards. You claim that it was after an attorney informed them they might have a cause of action. Assuming arguendo that this was indeed the case, since when do we discourage people from obtaining the advice of an attorney before making a move with respect to potential legal issues? Please give that question some serious consideration.

With respect to your concerns about the level of respect being shown by others in their postings, if you took the time to thoroughly read my previous posts, you would see that I encourage all people to be respectful, irrespective of their race. For example, in your recent post, you refer to the two gentlemen as morons. I sincerely doubt that you know the gentlemen well enough to confirm the veracity of such a statement. However, comparing the manner in which the two gentlemen presented and expressed themselves on the Today show to the manner in which you have chosen to present and express yourself on this discussion board, I would guess that their respective IQ levels are considerably higher than yours. Should you have any conclusive proof otherwise, please feel free to correct me.

As you seem to have absolutely no understanding of: 1) the way in which legal matters usually work in this country; or 2) the manner of conveying your thoughts to others which will convince them that you have at least the slightest modicum of intelligence, I will now bid you adieu and wish you the best of luck in your future efforts to communicate with others in this discussion.

303. It is truly amazing how ignorant SOME people really are! I am BLACK - so let me clear up some POPULAR misperceptions that seem to run rampant on this post. It probably won't do any good, but I have a few minutes to spare...

1. Black people WORK VERY HARD - I KNOW I DO. So do my BLACK Friends
2. Black People Value EDUCATION - I have my MBA/CPA
3. I DO NOT call ANYONE the N word or any other racial slur...Decent people understand the hurt and fear that the word evoked in the not too distant past. All Black people do not call each other the N word...

All that said - Richards was SUPPOSED to be a professional - 2 guys coming in and talking REALLY should not have been that big a deal!! Since you want to tell us that a White guy calling a Black man the N Word is only "Words" and therefore NOT a big deal!

305. While I agree it's absurd for these guys to try and milk this situation, why can't we stop pretending that what Richard's did was no big deal. I certainly don't think he should have to pay these guys, but he absolutely should not be let off the hook. TMZ should be embarrassed for allowing people to call these two men the 'N' word on this website. People are so ignorant, it's pathetic. Richard's was not merely a white comedian poking fun at blacks, he was shouting genuine hatred and racism. A black comedian who pokes fun at whites also does not have the right to shout racist remarks to white audience members. There's a HUGE difference between making a joke, and making outright hateful remarks. He wasn't playfully saying "Nigga," he angrily shouted "N---er." And stop being so stupid about the whole "why can't white people say the N word, but black people can." If you are a member of a particular group, it's considered okay for you to say negative words about that group. It's like gay people jokingly calling each other "fags" or "dykes." The key word being "JOKE." People, grow up. Stop filling your soul with hatred and see what a difference it makes in your life.

306. i think you all are a bunch of crazy asses. yes they were rude by interrupting michael richards during his act; however, in no way does that give him the right to be outrageous in his raging comments to these men. no matter if he was yelling at a bunch of black people, white people, asian people, mexican people, or a bunch of skanky women it was OUTRAGEOUS!! "im not a racist thats what is insane about it" said richards. are you kidding me? either you were on drugs or drunk or you just have issues with racism. michael richards needs to stand up, call the people, apologize, and then go get help. no one should ever be attacked like that no matter if they were rude or not.

308. Lets face it. Richards was wrong in reacting the way he did and I am sure that his career will suffer for it, however, Doss and McBride have blown their credibility here. If they wanted just an apology, I can see that, however, now they want paid. Their real colors show (no pun intended) as money grubbing oportunists.

312. With so much hatred already out there I'm not sure why some of these post feel compelled to repeat the ignorance that started this thing in the first place.

Everyone admits that Michael Richards was wrong and then behind that comes up with some excuse as to why it was ok. I can care less if the men get anything from this but for to have all these post that shows how much people hate the black race just shows how ignorant people really are, especially the bradley26 who needs anger management.

314. Somebody else already said it%u2026 the notion that these jokers should be given money for their %u201Cpain and suffering%u201D is RIDICULOUS!!! Richards%u2019 career is probably over. Face it, he hasn%u2019t been doing all that well since the end of Seinfeld, even before this fiasco. So, in a sense, he will pay for his actions, and in a big way. But if he ever hoped for any possibility of recovering from this huge mistake, he couldn%u2019t have hoped for a better ally than Ms. Allred (one must almost wonder if Mr. Richards is the one who actually retained her).

This will never see the inside of a courtroom, because no crime was committed. If saying the word n*gger is ever legislated to be a crime in this country, then a lot of black people will find themselves in court. I agree with %u2018Curiosity Killed the KAT,%u2019 who said %u201CIt's sad to see that bigoted people are fanning the flames%u2026%u201D As an Anglo, it is embarrassing to me to know that there are so many people who still believe the use of the word n*gger is acceptable. It makes me uncomfortable just to use it here in print, and I can barely bring myself to say the word out loud, even when I am completely alone in the privacy of my own home. It is not acceptable, and that is true whether you are white or black or somewhere in between. Whether you are white, or black, to use the word n*gger is to reveal one%u2019s ignorance, plain and simple. Blacks, you can try to excuse yourselves, and say it%u2019s different, that you say n*ggah, not n*gger, etc. but it really makes no difference. When whites use this horrid word they demonstrate a lack of respect for blacks; when blacks use it they demonstrate a lack of respect for themselves.

Having said this, I would also like to say that, while it would certainly not hurt Mr. Richards%u2019 situation to donate some money to a worthy cause (perhaps, for example, to daycare programs for underprivileged children in the poorest areas of Los Angeles; this would do far more to demonstrate that Mr. Richards is genuinely and sincerely concerned about redeeming himself in the eyes of the black community than would simply paying off some greedy opportunists and their ambulance-chasing lawyer), the two %u201Cgentlemen%u201D Doss and McBride are not entitled to and should not receive anything beyond an apology. Gloria Allred should absolutely not receive one red cent as a result of her insinuating herself into this controversy. I would say she should be ashamed of herself, but she is incapable of being ashamed of herself; she has no bottom. The old crone should go spend the remaining years of her miserable existence in a cave somewhere, and stop bothering the rest of us. Every time I have to listen to her I always feel afterwards the compelling need to bathe. Be quiet, money-grubbing shrew! Be gone, harpy!

Michael Richards%u2019 actions and words that night are inexcusable, and he will pay for them, because he will find it difficult if not impossible in the future to find work in his preferred profession. That is as it should be. The unabashed, transparent rush to cash in by Ms. Allred and her %u201Cvictims%u201D is very nearly just as disgusting. Her actions, and theirs, are doing nothing to improve the state of race relations in this country.
