You need to read up on your history! The word "cracker" isn't backed by 400 years of slavery, lynching, segregation, and discrimination. I just can't believe that you would negate all that history and say the word "cracker" carries equal weight as the word "nigger."

What horrible things accompany the racial slur "cracker"? I don't remember a time when "crackers" were humiliated, and subjugated by people of color in this country. It was never in our laws that "crackers" were not considered whole men, unable to vote and own land. Do you get my drift?

I know an African American gentleman who is 65 years old and remembers segregation in Louisiana. He remembers when the N-word was used in the South. He remembers when he had to go in the back door and not the front door at the local grocery store because he was black. He remembers how strange it was to people when he made friends with some white boys. He remembers segregation. You cannot just forget these things when they sent such a profound message to non-whites in America that we were different and inferior. Those things may have been in the past, but they have tremendous affects on people's psyches. Imagine how you would feel about that word if your grandfather had to suffer that kind of discrimination.

And as for making racial jokes, it's the way you say it that makes a difference. I don't think Micheal was joking at the time. I think he was really pissed off and his anger got the best of him.

I'm not saying people shouldn't move on, but this event is a good opportunity to open up a dialogue, like the one we're having now. And of course the war is important. No one is saying it's not.

81. First off, we ALL have prejudice. Dont lie and say you dont because you do. I do, blacks do, whites do, Jews do, everyone does. Secondly, if you believe in God, realize that God will not forgive you if you dont forgive others. I dont care how wronged you think you have been, to God, we are all equally sinful, wretched, wicked, evil, etc. The best you can be is nothing more than filth to God. Therefore, if you cant forgive Richards, God wont forgive you. That simple. Same goes for the "Rev." Al Sharpton. If he cared as much for God as he does for other things, he would have not only forgiven Richards, but embraced him in love and encouraged others to do the same. I believe that Brother Martin would have done that. And I know that our Lord Jesus Christ would do that.

As for the blacks on here that mentioned lynching Richards, what the hell is wrong with you? Do you not remember the words of Brother Martin, Frederick Douglas, and all those whom came before you to give you the life you have today? Sure its not perfect, but if Douglas had what you do, he would not spend all of his time being lazy and complaining. He would be running for president...or going to college, or helping to build up the Black race.

For the Whites, you need to understand the sensitivity of these archaic terms, and the horrible memories they bring up your Black brethren. Its not just words to many, it is the abscence of culture. Essentially, the Blacks of America went through a cultural genocide. They survived but their history was gone. Try to keep that in mind.

Ultimately, the only thing that matters is God, and his Christ. In heaven, none will care about Race any longer.

83. Kramer does NOT need to get the civil rights leaders to accept his apology, he only needs headlines of trying to ask forgiveness.

If they refuse? then they look bad. pure PR baby

Kramer apologized enough, we all know his character from the tv show, its funny and eccentric and nutty, he is one of the only people who can get away with an outburst like this, because its Kramer.

But him being apologetic shows how sincere he is that he doesnt want anyone to be mad at him, he wants understanding. His comments were okay given the situation, the blacks there sparked the argument, he stood up to them, respect his standing up to them if nothing else.

Anyone saying it was a racist rant? is not understanding the situation or is such a sensitive person they should be sheltered by others and not hear it. Saying its racism? you dont know what real racism and what real hate is.

Kramer, now that we thought about it, its not as bad as first thought and given it was an anger outburst? the situation makes sense so youre okay, all is forgiven.

87. Richards tone on Letterman made him sound as if, he thinks, something bad was done to him. Next he calls up several self-appointed and self-important black 'leaders,' and that comes off like he's looking for publicity. Richards isn't showing dignity or class. A simple apology using the word wrong was called for, and then he should have gone away. If he can't take heckling he has no business doing stand-up, and his long tirade, while sober, indicates he really is a racist and not just being stupid.
