Richards Reaches Out To Civil Rights Leaders

Jesse Jackson, Michael Richards, Al SharptonTMZ has learned that Michael Richards is reaching out to civil rights leaders, asking for forgiveness.

Uber-publicist Howard Rubenstein, who was hired just today by the "Seinfeld" star, tells TMZ that Richards was on the phone today with Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton, apologizing for his racial rant last Friday at L.A.'s Laugh Factory -- a rant captured on video and first shown on TMZ.

Rubenstein says Richards has made other phone calls today as well, expressing regret for his comments. Rubenstein says, "He's appalled at what he did and wants to start the healing process." Rubenstein adds, "Whether it be an attack on any racial group -- disguised or posed as humor -- he acknowledges it's horrible and wrong and he will never do that again."

Rubenstein says the calls were received "positively." Sharpton, however, stated publicly that he did not buy Richards' apology on "Letterman."

92. I dont think he should have to apologize to these black leaders. Did he also call them Niggers? If it were genuine couldnt he apologize to the people he he made remarks to. Besides none of these black leaders are going to say what they actually are thinking, they will except his apology and then behind close doors say "that cracker didnt mean it".

93. Tc, I understand your feelings. However, the time comes when we need to look past Richards and look at ourselves. Which one of us in this world has the moral character to condemn anothers sins? Anyone who would remark about Richards could have things brought out about them that are just as bad if not worse. Ever lied, cheated, stole, assaulted, cursed, or thought bad about someone? If the answer to any of those is yes, you are no better than Richards. None of you know what its like to be in the public eye and have every move you make under a constant microscope.

If TC is out and about and calls a white guy out and about a "punk ass white boy" with his friends, the media isnt right there to make you look like some Black racist hater who hopes for the demise and genocide of the Western European/Nordic races. That is what happens to celebrities when they make comments like so many of the rest of us. Put yourself is their shoes.

95. Pay Sharpton, grovel to Jesse then go kiss Opra's big black butt and all will be forgiven.

When do the White people get groveling and sniveling from the Black folks over all those racist rap lyrics and nasty assed commedians calling us everything but a child of God? Never. Big double standard in the USA. It's time to end the double standard. If I'm a Cracker or MF White Boy, you're a nigger. OK?

96. Comedian Paul Mooney was on MSNBC last night talking about this. I loved the joke he gave at the end. It was something like this...

A little white boy was in the kitchen while his mom was baking a chocolate cake. He grabs the chocolate frosting and smears it on his face and tells his mom, "Look, I'm a black person." The mom slaps him and tells him not to ever do that again. She tells him, go show your father and grandfather. Kid goes shows his father and says the same thing, "Look, I'm a black person". Father slaps him and tells him to never do that again. Kid shows his grandafather, gets slapped and told never to do that again. The little kid finally comes back into the kitchen and the mom asks if he has learned anything for this experience.

The little kid says, "Yes, I have. I learned that I have been black for only five minutes and I already hate you white people.

97. I personally feel enough is enough. He has apologized for what he feels is his mistake. Now can we please let it go. This man is in his own hell wearing gasoline drawers, its wrong to keep kicking him while he is already down.

stop the madness............

98. "83. i never thought any different of him after i heard about it why should i do u see anyone thinking any different about chris rock and what he says?

Posted at 11:05PM on Nov 22nd 2006 by Joanne"

CONTEXT! When Chris Rock and other comedians use the term, it is in the context of an actual comic routine. What happened with Richards was not a part of his routine, but an instantaneous outburst. This was not a set up or a punch line, this was frustration. It is NOT okay to emit racial slurs in anger and frustration. Most comedians are using such language in order to get people to THINK. That is not what happened here.

99. I'm glad he broke out like that., because that is what he feels. Those are his true feelings. Nothing wrong with saying what you feel, even if your a celebrity. What pisses me off is the bullshit apologies they give afterwards when they really don't mean it.

Like none of us has ever gone off in public or private on someone of other or even our own race. I'm Hispanic and believe me I go off on "Spics" even in my own family for the stupid shit they do.

The Blacks and Jews are forever crying about how they are mistreated and the long history behind it. Well, join the fucken club. We all have our history. Get over it! Get on with your life. Society doesn't owe you any big favors, because of what your ancestors went through.

100. First of all, whatever is on the inside will come out. Michael Richards was, is and will be a racist until he gets help with whatever he has learned or experienced to cause those feelings. Second, if people want to make racist and ignorant statements don't be a coward and use fake names (Jim Crow). If you're bold enough to say is you should be bold enough to face it with a real name. Third, if you have to say "I’m not a racist" after you make a comment NEWS FLASH, YOU ARE! You are either in denial or honestly don't know! Finally, we'll move on when the people Michael Richards insulted says we will move on. If that is not you shut up.

101. He should have apologized to the audience that was enjoying his act.. right after his rant went down. Then followed up with the AP, and let it go.

Now he is going to turn himself into the posterboy for being a doormat. There are other comics of all races that are just as bad when they talk about other races, but they don't make it a personal attact and go in for overkill.

The two clowns that started all of this should also step up and apologize to the people who had their night ruined because they were talking.

Why is it that Jesse Jackson & AL Sharpton are the first was called when something like this happens. At least AL Sharpton said that he does not speak for all black people. I will scream and pull my hair out if anyone mentions that he should give any amount of money away.

102. It's amazing. True what Mike Richards did was absolutely wrong and should not be tolerated by anyone in his position with the kind of infleunce he has. That said, is it really that big of a deal? Did he kill anyone ? Did he physically assualt anyone ? I'm an Italian american and have been called everything from WOP to Sphegetti Bender to Guinea. Did I lose sleep over being called names? No. Let the guy say his apologies and move on. I didn't hear of any "good white folk" getting upset with the comments Oprah made earlier this year on satelite radio. If Jerry Seinfeld had made remarks similiar to Oprahs substituting white folks for black folk would it had gone unnoticed such as Oprahs had? I don't think so. People just need to relax.

103. No, JP, I do not have a double standard. Did you actually read and comprehend what I said?

Posted at 4:40AM on Nov 23rd 2006 by Big Momma

104. "Did you actually read and comprehend what I said?"

No Big Momma, I didnt. You know why? Because Im an ignorant Dago Wop that's uneducated. Is that what youre implying? Are you racist against italians? What exactly are you trying to say about me by saying I didnt comprehend? I get so tired of everywhere I go, facing this sort of racism at the hands of Blacks. They always try to inadvertently put down the Italians.

The previous paragraph is a dramatization but it typifies the uphill battle ahead for people of European nationalities in the coming years. Do Blacks endure prejudice? Sure. Do Whites get judged as guilty of prejudice ahead of time? Always. Whites get sick and tired of being prejudged as racist before they open there mouths. Maybe we ought to bring back slavery just to prove you right that we are indeed all devils.

105. Jesse and AL only look after one thing, their wallets... This is going to cost Richards dearly. Hasn't anyone heard of just walking away? If you hear something you do not like, just walk away.. Sh*t don't stink till you stir it....
