Richards Buries the Hatchet with Hecklers

Michael Richards Kyle Doss and Frank McBride
Michael Richards has agreed to settle his dispute with the men he offended during his racist rant last month at the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood. Richards and Gloria Allred, the lawyer for the two patrons, issued the following joint statement:

"Michael Richards would like to apologize in person to the gentleman with whom he had the exchange in the club. After discussions with Gloria Allred, an attorney who represents the man and three others who were with him that night, Michael has agreed that they will all meet in the presence of a retired judge who will facilitate the meeting and help the parties resolve this matter. All concerned are hopeful that a face-to-face meeting will be constructive and begin the necessary process of healing and closure."

No word on whether money will exchange hands.

BLACKS a wallet full of
GREEN with the help of
The lezbo Ms. AllRED.
I say take it to Oprah and settle it there with the hypocritical cast of Crash and close the show with rappers saying the N word while they jive to their own crap.

17. #7, meeting w/ a judge is not the courtroom where a jury of peers reviews evidence and renders a verdict...its a "settlement" conference, a/k/a mediation...nothing to do w/ justice.

18. As a white person I don't think Jesse Jackson speaks for blacks or whites, only himself. I know this wasn't mentioned in the story but my husband was on the school board when he was in Los Angeles as an "advisor". He is the same grandstanding "look at me" person now as he was back then. He is always in the mix for HIM-not anyone else. The same applies to having Richards on his "radio show". He was a jerk back then and he is now.

As far as the judge goes perhaps there should be a mediator so that Richards doesn't shoot off his mouth again. Gloria Allred-does she take any low profile cases where a camera isn't present? Probably not.

I agree with some of the posters-move on -it's December already.

19. This will be resolved to the extent that all parties involved know how to spell the word e-x-t-o-r-t-i-o-n. Gee golly gosh, does anyone think money will change hands? Now I have lost respect for Michael. The only thing left in doubt is whether the Reverend Jesse will get a cut.

20. What "healing"? I'm sure these men have NEVER heard the "N" word before therefore they were soooo injured by it that they need financial compensation. This is such a load. If it is NOT ok for Michael Richards to use it then it souldn't be ok for Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Snoop, or any other "entertainer"

23. #2 is so right with that observation...

An apology is one thing...but if this turns into, like the old Frank Zappa
"we're only in it for the money" sydnrome, than do the apology Kramer, let the judge decide if its sincere, close the case and move on. If those 2 demand or accept money from this, look for bad racial sentiment to go further inward and come out explosively over the littlest of things....both with public figures and us private folk...where something as simple as saying "excuse me" to the wrong black person will not be accepted and either a payout or a potential shoot out will decide the issue.

We have come far with racial acceptance since the Civil rights Act of 64, on the outside and in hiring and acceptance of Blacks in the media, entertainment, business, neighborhoods and Universities----but when the curtain is pulled back, like with this Kramer incident, we see inside there are still pockets of dangerous feelings.

Money exchanged for this indiscretion will alienate both sides-- inside and behind the curtain even further.

24.
A women called in to a popular radio station in LA earlier this week that was at The Laugh Factory during Michael's angry tirade. She said Michael was well received as he first stepped out on stage but she felt due to his lack of stand-up experience, he was noticeably nervous. The VIP section was very loud and disruptive so Michael told them to 'shut-up' that is when the heckler said,' yes, I want to hear what he has to say', that's when (the audience member) said 'Michael kind of turned on the heckler, and the tape rolled from there. The heckler shouted at Michael from the VIP balcony then continued to heckle as he walked down stairs on to the floor. She said Michael just went nuts and she felt it was more of an angry flip out session on Michael's part for having his act interrupted then it was hate rage.

Post # 2 ~ Miffed, I agree about our right to 'FREEDOM OF SPEECH' but with that freedom comes responsibility and there are consequences for are actions.
NOTHING IS FREE...not even the 1st amendment with out consequences.

I also feel this is enough already, he has apologized, what more could he do?
Every race, creed, religion and ethnic group in this universe has experienced prejudice and hate, it's unfortunate but it has always been this way and until we evolve as human beings, I don't see it changing anytime soon. I hope I'm wrong.

25. Good Lord - let it go. I don't think he should've even apologized to begin with aside from a simple 'Sorry if anyone was offended' AT THE MOST. A comedian onstage can't fire back at a few rude attendees who are heckling him calling him a cracker, etc. - yet 50 Cent can call Oprah an Oreo and somehow that's OK because he's black? Last I checked I (being a female) was denied voting rights for hundreds of years a million years before I was born - and I don't get to file a lawsuit every time a black man calls me a 'fine ass bitch' when I walk by. Slavery sucked and was a horrific example of the American human race for a period of time - but get over it and be accountable for yourself and your actions and your life. Unless you were shackled and owned - I don't want to hear it anymore. Especially if the n-word is a part of your daily verbiage - which those guys using the term 'cracker' - please - they've got the n-word in their catalog of commonly used terms.

26. This outburst of Richard's goes much deeper. The man needs professional help, not just for his racial slur's but his RAGE! He is a sick man.

28. When is this incident going to go away? Michael has apologized over and over again which is more than these guys would have gotten if this were just a word exchange in a bar. Although they may not have been decent, the words that Michael spoke were not illegal, so what are these guys looking to possibly gain from it? If you ask me, the fact that they are possibly seeking a monetary gain only perpetuates a stereotype. Is that not ironic?

29. @ 16 - Apologize for HECKLING??? You're kidding, right?!
Doesn't heckling go with stand-up comedy??
A REAL comedian handles a heckler by making the audience laught AT the heckler! NO going crazy!
He should just stick with sitcoms! Some people.......are sooo dumb.

30. i agree with #4...yes what was said was wrong however this is
just ridiculous...he said what he said...is sorry for it...can we PLEASE move on...i GUARANTEE that if he wasn't white...this wouldn't had made headlines in the news and been blow out of proportion like it has been...and that's just a fact.......i mean im white...not racist...myboyfriend is actually hispanic...and he even agrees...it's all good and funny when negative and derogatory statements are aimed at whites..but when whites decide to go there its wrong and they're assumed as a racist.....i've seen numerous shows where black or comedians of a different ethnicity target white people in very negative ways and saying things that are out of line and everyone just laughs it up and thinks its just so damn funny.....if it's wrong and racist for whites then other ethnicities need to be
shamed upon just as much...it's clearly a double standard here......
