I was listening to a CD this morning in which the "N Word" - since no one has the balls to spell out n*gger, even though they have no problem writing out the "C Word" CRACKER - was used as every other word. Seems to me when black people run out of things to say they use "n*gger" as a filler. If you can use it so can we, go cry to someone who cares! "The stunned crowd gasped and stared at each other" - look at how the statement is worded. Media whores!

72. Lenny Bruce was killing audiences with this kind of material more than forty years ago. So was Redd Fox.

Daniel Tosh (a white comic) does a killer bit where he uses a slur ironically, then follows it up with "No, no, no, it's okay because I'm black." There are dozens of comics on the scene right now whose entire ACTS are about racial stereotypes and slurs -- Lisa Lampinelli, Dave Chappele, Carlos Mencia, to name a few.

Racism is a very sensitive topic right now in America, because we all want to think we're done with it and we aren't. it's a source of guilt and shock. Of course comedians, who know audiences respond to shock, are going to use it in their acts. Most of the acts I've seen leave the audience shocked, but with a greater sense of brotherhood. We want to laugh about absurd stereotypes.

As for comics using these subjects against hecklers -- that's a (dark) grey area, but comics always use viscious counters against hecklers, impugning their humor, their mental abilities, their sexuality. The heckler generally gets it in whatever mode the comic deems would most scathing to the individual, and I see Richard's attack as a case of trying to hurt a guy so bad that he shuts up. Questions of racism are secondary and impossible to judge from context.

74. As a black man myself, I am reminded of something my grandfather once said...'If you're black, don't act like a n*gger in public.' He thought his children, and his grandchildren to act as if we possesed a modicum of common sense. This whole Michael Richards/Andy Dick saga is really pointless to me. The people who use N*gger are stupid, and as a whole Blacks should have nothing to do with them. And now I stand here, waiting for the cry of 'Uncle Tom'.
