What Garrison Did

Before Fatal Crash

12/5/2006 2:15 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Lane GarrisonTMZ has learned that "Prison Break" star Lane Garrison has hired powerhouse defense attorney Harland Braun in connection with last Saturday's fatal car accident.

Lane was at the wheel in his Land Rover on Saturday night when it crossed a median in Beverly Hills and crashed into a tree. A 17-year-old boy sitting in the backseat was killed and two 15-year-olds were injured.

Braun tells TMZ that Garrison had never met the three teenagers before the night of the accident. Braun says Garrison was at a local supermarket earlier in the evening when the trio recognized him in the checkout line and asked him if he wanted to go to a party. Braun says Garrison went to the party and had one drink. Braun says Garrison also had one margarita at a Mexican restaurant that night, but that was the extent of his alcohol consumption. Braun tells TMZ that as Garrison was leaving the party to meet a woman at his apartment, the three teens asked to accompany him. According to sources, the boy was an only child and was extremely well liked by his peers.

Braun says Garrison has no recollection of the accident, which Braun says rendered him unconscious. In fact, Braun claims Garrison's first memory was waking up at the Century City Hospital emergency room with a taxi coupon on his lap that had been given to him by hospital staff so he could get home. Braun says he was not told by hospital personnel that someone had died. He learned of the death later from a friend, Braun says, and was "totally despondent."

Braun says a sample of Garrison's blood was taken at the hospital, but it could take several weeks before the results are in. Braun says he doubts Garrison was intoxicated, but also says, "Who knows if someone put something in his drink at the party."

Braun also says Garrison's Land Rover had been experiencing alignment issues as of late and had been pulling to one side, and added that the SUV had brake problems. Braun says he is forwarding repair receipts to the police.

According to Braun, "Nobody knows what happened, it's a mystery."

What a tragedy!...interesting point to note is that the boy who died was the only one in the car NOT WEARING A SEATBELT...I work in insurance claims and I have seen a lot of mangled cars and most of the time fatalities occur from not wearing a seatbelt...but the poor kid was probably too young to realize how critical wearing a seatbelt is.

Post # 12 : You are well informed and intelligent. Thank you for you enlightening and giving others your perspective on this. I agree with everything you said . I was just about to address many of the same issues you did.

Harland Braun, Garrison's defense Attorney., is foolish using " I don't remember Anything " Defense. Garrison remembers the date he had earlier. So I guess his memory will be " selective ". It won't FLY when the jury hears it.

Waiting for the blood tests.......is just prolonging the inevitable. This is a " No WIn" situiation for Garrison. As far as holding parents responsible for the actions of their juvnnile children. As a parent of a 17 year old . I can tell you that it is Impossible... All children lie to their parents and tell them what they want to hear.
You did it yourself when you were that age. To blame the parent is not rational.

The blame lies on the driver of the car and the only ADULT that was present. Just another observation and a " common sense CALL " I would not want to be in that man's shoes right now.

I smelll ..........." YOU GET THE DEFENSE THAT YOU PAY FOR " going on here. Please do tell us more..... ( and I couldn't agree with you more about " shame on him with those minor's in his car......at his age he should have known better )

I feel that Garrison making so many excuses for his stupidity and lack of judgment is a slap in the face to the parents of the teenagers involved. He appears disrespectful and concerned for only himself and his future, while he took away someone else's future. I do feel bad for all involved and will pray for them.

Post #24 "but the poor kid was probably too young to realize how critical wearing a seatbelt is."

Come ON!! The boy was 17 years old! Kids are taught, even in school, to wear their seatbelts from being born and up. By the time this boy is 17, he knows good and well how important it is to wear one; he has probably taken driver's ed.

I'm the Mom of an 18 year old - not a perfect kid, by the way - and feel there is a LOT of blame to spread around in this story.

It's hard being a parent ... the hardest job there is, if you fully commit to it. The parents should have talked to all 3 kids at their ages about this sort of thing (drunk driving, going off on their own, going to parties with drinking (especially the 2 15 year old girls) and they've known not to talk to 'strangers' since they were toddlers).

The 'star' is an idiot - enough said about him.

What a sad, sad story =(

i cant believe this maddness. i was at the party that the 17 yr old boy was at, i went to school with him, i called him my friend. and now this jerk actor says that he was "giving them a ride home!?" first of all, there were at least 20 sober people at the party that would have happily given the boy a ride home. the only problem with them taking him would be that they werent over 21. Lane Garrision is a scum bag liar. he was taking these kids to buy alcohol and they were on the way back to the party when they crashed. if this man isnt put to justice the only word to describe that out come would be devistating. this boy deserves justice, dead or alive, and the people of this community will fight their hearts out to make sure he gets it. so if lane garrison thinks he can get away with saying he gave them a ride home, hes in for a rude awakening. this community will not stand for that kind of sick behavior upon someone that was so loved by us all. RIP, love. we remember you always.

It seriously bothers me that it's come out that this guy has hired a big named attorney who will do anything to clear him of charges and get him off scott free with no punishment whatsoever. A boy was killed because this stupid guy chose to drink and drive, and being a celebrity he has the means to hire a high power attorney to let him off innocent. I am sick and tired of the way these celebrities get preferential treatment. Just because they are on tv or in a movie does not make them above the law! He made the decision to drink and drive and a young boy was KILLED because of the choices he made. I can only hope and pray that justice is served this time in Hollywood.

this guy completely knew what he was doing he was going to get the girls liquored up then he could have them as he please. This guy is by far the sickest person i have ever heard about and the fact that he is not taking any blame whats so ever for the death of the greatest guy ever is ridiculous.
I hope Lane Garrison rots in prison and finds a husband of his own there!

i was friends with the boy killed

THIS IS UTTER BULLSH*T.

he picked up the girls at a gas station and went to a HIGH SCHOOL party. what 27-year-old man goes to a highschool party? they drank a LOT and then decided to go out for more alcohol. they went to pavillions and ralphs and bought more. the 17 year old boy went along to make sure the girls were safe with garrison. garrison had been hitting on the girls all night and were on their way BACK TO THE PARTY when the accident occured.

i miss my friend so much and i hope garrison is punished severly

RIP
