Wayans Drops N-Bomb, Faces Fallout

Damon WayansDamon Wayans became the first famous offender of the Laugh Factory's ban on the use of the n-word, and was fined and banned from the club for three months as a result, Wayans' publicist tells TMZ.

After the Michael Richards incident on November 17, the club decided to ban use of the word and fine comedians $20 for every offense. Wayans took the stage Sunday during a showcase of African-American comedians called "Chocolate Sundaes." Wayans opened his routine with the line, "Give yourselves a big round of applause for coming down and supporting 'N***** Night.'" According to the L.A. Times, Wayans used the word 15 more times during his 20-minute appearance.

That's a $320 contribution to the Laugh Factory's swear jar. Wayans' rep had no further comment other than to confirm the fine and the temporary ban.

Andy Dick drew fire earlier this week for using the n-word during an appearance at the Improv.

61. If "african americans" call each other n*gger; that just makes it okay for everyone else to call them n*ggers too! What's the big deal!!!!

62. Let's see, Michael Richard's was banned for life for using the "N" word at the laugh factory but Damon Wayons get's a 3 month suspension. Sounds like whites are the ones being discriminated against although it's no surprise to me. This sort of thing has been going on for years now and I'm just wondering when whites are going to wake up to this fact and start saying, we're not going to take it anymore.

66. The word should be banned. It was offensive when it was first created and it is offensive today. For those of you who advocate for the continued usage of a word that symbolizes hatred towards black people around the world and hide under this foolishness under freedom of speech your logic and level of judgement is questionable. There are more worthy causes that need our attention. Banning the word in music, cable , etc. is a good thing for american society which has dehumanized and treated black people as second class citizens for hundreds of years. Why should children or better yet unborn children be exposed to this form of harted and ignorance? Although African American entertainers use the word this doesn't justify the frequency of its usage throughout the media. No other group of people can view the racial slurs that are used to descibe their group in the same context as that that the n-word is used in. The word should be banned because it is time for america to grow as a nation and be the leader of the free world we claim to be. There is a certain level of responsibliy that is lacking in this society. Isn't it a contradiction that racial slurs are used in entertainment but it you use them at work you will be reprimanded or fired. You obviously do not have freedom of speak at work because there are codes of conduct and standards. The same standards and rules should be applicable for entertainers.

67. I guess Damon Wayans believes in calling a spade a spade!

68. People have freedom of speech in their personal lives. However, no one is owed support for what they say in the public sphere. If the n-word is banned for some it should be banned for all. On the other hand politically correct speech has been a big issue for years, at colleges. Too often people try to be offended, so they can feel superior and cause trouble.

71. ELLIS you're a dumbass. You go to every story that has something to do with a black person and make the same racist remarks. At least say something original. That thing about black people not being far from walking on all fours? You said it on another blog already. We got your point!!!

By the way, I just read the Serena Williams- pitt bull story and there you were again. Chatting about some bulls**t that you don't even believe. If you hate black people so much then why are you giving them so much attention. You're trying to incite a reaction just for kicks. You blog on their stories and you admit that you watch Judge Mathis. For someone who hates blacks you sure know how to give them the time of day.

72. This just bothers me. I have noticed that when African-Americans use the N-word. (Which I have never cared for that word no matter who uses it.) It seems like the audience will laugh and all is just fine. However, when a Caucasian uses the N-word. Everyone cringes and calls him a racist for using it. Why? I am not saying what Michael Richards did was acceptable, but this goes way beyond him. It has always been this way. He just made the issue more public because of who he was. Am I wrong? Does anyone else feel this way? I just don't think it should be a double standard. If one race can say it without being looked down on than all the other races should be able to use the same language without being accused of racism.

73. I never was a big Wayans fan. I am now.

74. I'm not sure why the word hasn't fallen to disuse. We can all agree that the terms of it's installment into the English language were unsavory. For some white people it's a last resort means to oppress, for some black people it's a handshake. For most of us, it should be neutral (hopefully) since nobody should make sweeping racial generalizations. This is one white person that wishes his ancestors would've done the damn work themselves, then maybe we wouldn't have this problem. People ask what's wrong with America? How can we be so racist? Ignorant? Well, it's got something to do with the roots, even though we try so hard to phase it out, it'll always be there. Inherited like genetics from an unethical era.

75. Hmmm, someone is controlling our speech? That is odd I didn't realize that the Liberal, Politicall correctness police were interested in controlling our speech...It certainly isn't the Conservatives.
The fact that it was made an issue ( because Michael Richards is WHITE) Now makes it an issue. Wayans made a career out of being an "equal opportunity" offender of people on his show "In Living Color". Don't look now, but everyone is talking about it and HIM. The man is a GENIUS!
