Jessica's Mom Steamed Over '9 to 5' Flub

Jessica and Tina SimpsonJessica Simpson's mother gave Jess a verbal smack-down after her "embarrassing" rendition of "9 to 5" in front of Dolly Parton and President Bush at the Kennedy Center Honors last weekend, telling her that she should get out of the business if she doesn't want to put in the work.

Sources tell TMZ that Tina Simpson was furious with Jess after she flubbed lyrics, stood statue-still on stage while trying to hold her dress up, and then awkwardly hurried off with a few mumbled words to Parton. Tina told her daughter that the performance was "embarrassing" and "unprofessional," and mom was further incensed because Jessica had missed a dress rehearsal and hadn't adequately learned lyrics to the song -- which necessitated cue cards at the front of the stage. Jessica can be clearly seen reading from the cards during her performance.

Curiously, Jessica's dad, Joe, wasn't undone by the snafu, according to Planet Gossip's Marc Malkin. Joe didn't feel there was any need to reshoot the performance, calling it "cute," but show producers, reports Malkin, begged Joe to have Jess do it again, without anyone in the audience. "We almost cut her out of the [CBS] show," says a source.

Jessica's rep has blamed the mishap on nerves, and tells TMZ, "There is no problem with Tina [and Jessica] whatsoever."Train Wreck gallery: Click to launch

286. I think everyone should leave the poor thing alone so what she made a mistake everyone does one time or another she has had a hard year and unless you have been in her shoes you should not judge her, what she needs to do is get rid of her father as her manager because he is only screwing her career up even more he is not helping her and as for her mother if those are her real comments to her daughter then who the hell is she to talk get a real job yourself and then see if you can walk a mile in your daughters shoes.....keep your head up Jess

288. Jessica does not know a good thing when she see's it. I'm an aspiring country singer who often listens to Dolly and knows every word to "9 to 5." If Jess didn't want to do it, I would have certainly been eager to step in for her!

289. Jessica is hardly the problem. At least she's human, sort of, unlike that cultivated tramp Britney or that living skeleton, Paris.

290. I work at a 4 diamond resort, where she performed . We had guest who had paid to stay at the resort with tickets and the package was not cheap , they brought there little girls to see her and she couldnt remember half of the songs and then instead of starting her show at 8 she started at 845 and then quit at 9 30./ Needless to say we fielded many complaints and request for refunds
Where was Tina then.. this was last year.. you think jessica would have learned at least one complete song for someone she says is her idol.. instead of following John mayer around like a puppy.. And man she looks like crap too

291. Jessica simpson is a loser, a cry baby, pansy a$$, priss. she has no place in this business. her looks are all she has. she is an idiot(Nick Lachey worshiped her), she's lazy(passing up every job and butchering the good ones she accepts), and apparently blind(John Mayer?) this girl I used to adore!!! I am being completely honest...I had her cd's before she made it...now with the way she crapped on Nick, and is pitxhing a fit over everything...not to mention her now lack of talent...I am quite frankly disgusted I would rather see Elton John on a mag cover than her...and that's bad! Poor girl should listen to her father who gave up everything for her so she could accomplish her dreams. I would be doing everything that man said.

293. Poor Jessica. Everything is going down hill for her after divorcing her ex- husband Nick Lachey.

294. I think the mother's point was right on target. Jessica was getting paid big bucks to perform at the Kennedy Center Honors, and she needed a teleprompter? If she's such a big fan of Dolly Parton, she would know the song without having to even think about it. Crap, I even know some of the lyrics myself, and you can bet I would know the whole song if I had to sing it in front of Ms. Parton as a tribute. The audience was stunned to silence afterwards ... I agree with the poster who said they should have asked one of the country music stars to perform for Dolly Parton, as that would have been proper and you can bet there wouldn't have been any flubbed lyrics.

295. I don't know where you get your information, but I was there and backstage with Tina and Joe as Jessica came offstage. Tina said nothing of the kind to her daughter, but instead had nothing but supportive, loving words to help sooth Jessica's obviously upset state. And she did not miss a single rehearsal - she was there and on time for everyone. You really ought to check your sources before you create a domino effect of negative opinions on innocent people. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves.
