Jessica's Mom Steamed Over '9 to 5' Flub

Jessica and Tina Simpson Jessica Simpson's mother gave Jess a verbal smack-down after her "embarrassing" rendition of "9 to 5" in front of Dolly Parton and President Bush at the Kennedy Center Honors last weekend, telling her that she should get out of the business if she doesn't want to put in the work.

Sources tell TMZ that Tina Simpson was furious with Jess after she flubbed lyrics, stood statue-still on stage while trying to hold her dress up, and then awkwardly hurried off with a few mumbled words to Parton. Tina told her daughter that the performance was "embarrassing" and "unprofessional," and mom was further incensed because Jessica had missed a dress rehearsal and hadn't adequately learned lyrics to the song -- which necessitated cue cards at the front of the stage. Jessica can be clearly seen reading from the cards during her performance.

Curiously, Jessica's dad, Joe, wasn't undone by the snafu, according to Planet Gossip's Marc Malkin. Joe didn't feel there was any need to reshoot the performance, calling it "cute," but show producers, reports Malkin, begged Joe to have Jess do it again, without anyone in the audience. "We almost cut her out of the [CBS] show," says a source.

Jessica's rep has blamed the mishap on nerves, and tells TMZ, "There is no problem with Tina [and Jessica] whatsoever."

76. Just another thought in the unimportant, but amusing story of Jessica Simpson.

I think she messed up not because she was "NERVOUS", but because she was intimidated by the TRUE talent at the event. Her CD, and movie "Employee of the Month", did not do well, so maybe she is starting to realize her 15 min. are about up!

77. We all the real reason why she messed up on the song is cause she was gonna sh*t her pants so she had to get off the stage as fast as she could before it landed on the floor.

I am so sick with the dumb act. She had her moment in the light and she screwed that up by listening to her greedy father. Now please do us all a favor and take a leave from the spot light.

78. She made a fool out of herself. She should have practiced and studied the words to the song. She also should have worn a dress that she felt comfortable in. Her Mom should have taken her to the potty before the show started.

I think she staged it to get sympathy, to personally apologise and hopefully the main part in Pardon's lifestory movie.

81. Jessica Simpson is nothing but a lazy ass and now she is even slacking in her career. Her mother never taught her how to pick up her own clothes (remember Newlyweds); that's pretty bad when the guy is disgusted by a girl's inability to pick up her own dirty panties and towels. Her mother has been quoted as saying she basically was a slave to Jessica around the house because Jessica was so busy with her career. Jessica is not a cute, little, young girl anymore and t & a can only get you so far!

82. WOW! I can't believe how upset people become over someone that really does not affect us personally.

I do agree with the majority of responses!!!! She is not where she is today because of her talent. I am not a music buff, but it seemed for awhile she spent more time singing other artist's songs. To me she was more like a kareokee diva.

I do feel sorry for her. Her dad has a strange hold over her. I can't believe he was once a preacher, and that he not only allows, but encourages her to sell her sexuality, instead of her talent. Most fathers would have a hard time seeing thier baby girl walk around half naked, and knowing how other men are looking at her. It makes it even worse that he was once a preacher!!!!!!

If the majority of the public shares the opinions of the majority of the people that responded to this article - DADDY - has to know that he is perceived as a PERVERT, that has unhealthy thoughts about his own daughter. I wonder what his response is?

JESSICA, GET A THERAPIST, AND GET AWAY FROM YOUR DAD!

If dad is being picked on unfairly, then he needs to open his eyes and see how people view him.

90. These girls are soooooooo stupid! I feel so embarrassed for both Jessica and Ashley! THEY CAN'T SING. My gosh I've heard better singers at the American Idol auditions. It's so obvious that all they are good for is publicity, and oh yeah their bodies, because Brains and Talent is totally out. Jessica can't act, think, talk or sing, all she can do is look good. As for Ashley, NO COMMENT, SNL said it all (oh yeah and that McDonalds video, very classy). Did anyone ever see Jessica's audition tape when she was a little kid? She was going up agains Britney and Christina and guess what? She sucked! Her voice was horrible. So that's proof enough, she might as well just get into porn, that's the only thing she has going for. And her dad? Oh yeah he can promote her boobs since he seems to think so highly of them (discussting!). Ashley and mom? Yeah just live of whatever Jessica earns. :)
