"Prison Break" Star's Snobbiness Triggered Crash

"Prison Break" star Lane Garrison may have averted tragedy last week had he settled for a lesser vodka.

Garrison was behind the wheel last weekend when his Land Rover crashed into a tree in Beverly Hills, killing 17-year-old Vahagn Setian. As TMZ first reported, Garrison met Setian and two 15-year-old girls hours before the crash. The teens invited the actor to a party. People who attended the party tell TMZ they saw Garrison drink between four and seven shots of Grey Goose vodka in a short period of time.

Now other sources say seven was the unlucky number of shots. And we're told, Garrison was not drinking out of a shot glass -- the receptacle was much larger.

People who attended the party say Garrison finished off the Grey Goose and was offered Absolut vodka, but insisted on his drink of choice. The sources say Garrison was making a liquor run for more Grey Goose with Setian and the two girls when the accident occurred.

Garrison's high-powered celebrity defense lawyer Harland Braun tells TMZ his client was heading back to his apartment when the crash occurred. Garrison's blood was tested the night of the crash to determine his blood alcohol level. Results are pending.

76. Obviously this was a 100% preventable tragedy, and Lane will have to answer for his choices that lead to it.

However, my question is: Where were the teenagers' (especially the 15 year olds') parents at the time, and how were these kids not brought up to know better than to get into this situation in the first place?

I have 2 siblings, and although both our parents worked over 60 hours a week each, they knew where we were every second of every day, and we knew before we reached middle school how dangerous alcohol was for minors, particularly when mixed with automobiles. If any of us were ever caught with alcohol while we were in high school, we would have been grounded all the way through college! My parents took the task of raising children to be responsible and safe seriously; it's a shame that more parents these days do not.

Again, this tragedy could have been prevented had Lane been a responsible adult and made different choices, and he will be the one who rightfully will be held accountable.

But where were the kids' parents, and were they concerned about their kids' whereabouts and activities? Parenting is a huge responsibility. Did these parents ever explain to their kids the dangers of alcohol and getting into a drunk driver's car? Did they make sure their kids knew about not only real-life consequences (death/injury) but also the consequences that would befall them at home (grounding, lost privileges) if they were caught, and provide an alternate solution ("Call me if you are ever in a bad situation, any time of night, and I will come pick you up, no questions asked.")? What about "Don't get into cars with strangers."?

Just wondering. There's no saying if that would have prevented this horrific accident, and maybe these parents did do the best they could, but... perhaps this will make other parents and kids think twice.

78. # 68 "first of all my prays and thoughts are with setians' family
and friends"
"all my prayers and thought are with Lane"

I say "Choose a side".

Lane may be nice, sweet, whatever. He broke the law. We may
not like the law, but it's because of people like him (and I don't
mean famous, rich, handsome) ... I mean anyone who thinks they're
above the law, that we had to make the law in the first place! People need to start
taking responsibility for their actions again! I don't think we would ever
need to make laws if we didn't lose sight of our morality. As soon as
we believe that "what we want to do" trumphs anothers right to do
"what they want to do"{ (i.e. I want to drink and drive! ... vs... I
want to walk safely down the sidewalk without getting hit by a drunk
driver) both are considered equal and equally valid? Personally. I don't think so. I'm just tired of hearing excuses.
The knowledge is out there. We've all heard it (on all subjects!)
Just because we choose not to listen does not make it acceptable that we endanger others because of our belief that we are "entitled" to do as we please, how and when we please.

In this case .... "ignorace is no excuse in the eye's of the law".
(and I know how I'm interpreting "ignorance" in this example!).

80. Harland Braun....how do you sleep at night? You trolling high paid bottom feeding starf***ing excuse of a human being?

Maybe your private investigator buddy in prison Pellicano can help you dredge sh*t up for your case...

I guess you can prove this dick didnt drive drunk and kill a minor...good luck with that.

81. Carole.
Take Lane's dick out of your mouth and think with what little brain you have left from partying in the 90210...shut up.

82. patty cake, suck my fat c**k. Stop posting sh*t over and over again. Put all your sh*tfilled opinions in one box. Funny how you should make fun of 90210 when that's where the dead kid went to school. Is it such a bad place now? Oh no, now we have to change our opinions. DICKHEAD. Innocent until proven guilty.

83. patty cake would love to have Lane's dick in her mouth. Jealousy is not the answer, fatso.

Also, Harland Braun is one of the most successful D.A.'s in CA. He will get Lane off, if he's even charged with anything. lol! How do you like them apples bitch?

84. There is nothing wrong with having sympathy for Lane as well as for the kids. It's not black or white. You have no idea if he was drinking or not, and if you chose to believe 30 drunk teenagers, then go ahead. But that sh*t won't stand in court.

Where are these so-called pictures of Lane drinking? NOWHERE. There are none or someone would've had them by now.

85. Maybe if patty cakes got her granny ass up and left her living room, she'd realize this is 2006 and that she needs to stop living in the 1940s. Defending people, that's what D.A.'s are paid to do. So none of that "how can you live with yourself"

...well, with the six figure income they make, I'm sure they can live with themselves quite nicely.

86. Ah Hem, @ # 49

MURDER is defined by law as:

Killing someone with premeditated malice.

Now if he was legally drunk as the time then he committed manslaughter which is defined as:

The unlawful killing of a human being without malice aforethought.

Now my 2 cents not that it matters, if Lane is guilty of DUI then he should be punished under the full extent of the law to include contributing to the delinquency of minors as well. Open container laws.
Blah blah blah, Throw away the freaking keys!

HOWEVER

The OWNER of the home were the party was should be charged with contributing to the delinquency of minors, and contributory negligence in the death of the minor AND the other children hurt. AND IMNSHO they should have SWS investigating their asses as well.

But it seems that all the blame lies fully on Lane%u2019s shoulders in most of the blogs I have read. Sure he was wrong in picking up 3 minors AT an adult%u2019s home. Where The F were the parents who owned that home?? I have met many a %u201Cchild%u201D these days who are 15 and they look like they are 19-20 with their make-up and attire, not to mention their attitudes.

MY CHILDREN are not allowed to walk the streets looking like this and they are not allowed at parties without parental supervision%u2014THOSE parents I KNOW and approve of. Do they hate my RULES? Yes, they do, will it save their lives in the type of situation those children were in? I believe it will. Not only do I assure I know the parents but I speak to my children when they are allowed to go out on occasion, and in many cases checking to assure they are where they say they will be, etc. Am I over-protective? You betcha! Are they alive, YOU BETCHA!

They also know that if ever in a situation where they mat have been drinking and they call me I will pick them up WITH NO QUESTIONS ASKED. There are other consequences as well but IMO the parents of all the Teens involved need to reevaluate their patenting or should I say lack of it.

30 plus kids drinking at a party and not one parent knows this? 3 kids who get in a car with a complete stranger, knowingly, going buy a substance which is illegal at their ages. Three kids who took a risk WHICH I KNOW that if the parents did not teach them the schools and media have said enough about it.

There is MUCH culpability to be shared here.

87. yeah, you guys are right. I just read where the kid was a illegal immigrant so I take back everything i say. the little f*** was a immigrant!

Posted at 11:00PM on Dec 10th 2006 by patty cakes

88. Actually, "my 2 cents" your kids are probably out right now drinking and doping it up. No kid nowadays listens to their parents. You need to remove your head from your ass and realize that your kids do not care, and will find ways to get around you. This is what these dumb kids did.

89. LOL "Bobby Brown” are you the same person posting with the celeb names? Does that give you some sort of important feeling of power or intellect? Because it seems you have the most ignorant comments on these blogs.

My children are up-stair as we speak with 6 of their friends watching movies ( surly wishing they could be out partying with their some people from school) but I wont allow it and nor will the parents who I allows my children to hang out with either.

Now I am waiting for “Whitney Houston” to come back with some asinine comment which is supposed to upset me.

LMAO @ you.

90. No, I do not take the internet seriously enough to base my intellectual standing on how I post on a gossip website. I am confident enough in myself, in the real world, to know I am ten times smarter than you and the rest of the hoity toity parents who come up in here acting like they have some innocent angels as kids. Get realistic. This is not the 1950's anymore, grandma.
