Nicole Richie Popped for DUI

TMZ has learned that Nicole Richie was arrested for DUI early Monday morning. She was booked at 4:50 AM today and was released around 7:15 this morning. The booking sheet reveals Richie is 5'1" and 85 lbs.

We're told two motorists spotted her SUV going the wrong way on the 134 Freeway in Burbank. The drivers called 911.

When the CHP responded, Richie was stopped in the carpool lane and was alone in the vehicle. When cops approached the vehicle, Richie was on her cellphone.

Law enforcement officers tell TMZ Nicole Richie admitted she had taken Vicodin and smoked pot.

A preliminary alcohol screening device revealed that Nicole was not under the influence of alcohol.

One law enforcement source tell TMZ that while Richie was at the jail she was "very cooperative and very humble."

This is not the first brush Richie has had with substance abuse. In 2003, she pled guilty to heroin possession. The charges were dismissed after she completed the terms of her probation.

A rep for Richie had no comment.

TMZ has learned that Richie hired celebrity lawyer Howard Weitzman to rep her in this latest incident.

18. Nicole was not drinking and driving but she was high off of Vicodin and marijuana... Just as bad as being drunk. Nicole has probably gained five pounds meaning she went from being 80 pounds to 85 pounds.. She needs to be institutionalized very quickly.... Isn't she friends with Mary Kate? Nothing will happen to Nicole (as far as legally) she may be forced to go into rehab, and then everything will be right in the world (rolls eyes). Nicole, her friends and her family are in denial about her weight and drug problems, there needs to be an intervention and soon...

19. DUI=DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE.......of anything..meaning drugs or alcohol! Driving in the wrong direction? How scary is that? SHe could have easily killed someone. These Hollywood a**holes are out of control and it needs to stop!

24. Somebody get this girl a sammich, stat! 85 lbs? Holy crap? A strong wind would blow her away. I wonder if this is all in her head. She was given so much crap by the media for being "chunky" when she and that moron made the Simple Life #1. Now they're all saying she's too skinny. What's a girl to do, eh?

I also applaud her for smoking a little pot. Maybe she'll get the munchies and eat something for heaven's sake. But, Nicole, you shouldn't be stoned on the highway going the wrong way. That's bad....and stuff.

25. In God's name....why on earth? Why on earth does this talent-free zero get any press at all? Who is she? What has she accomplished? She has the best PR people and Marketing reps in the world, and we, the pathetic public, treat her as if she were some interesting, talented diety. How sad for all of us.
