Nicole Richie Popped for DUI

TMZ has learned that Nicole Richie was arrested for DUI early Monday morning. She was booked at 4:50 AM today and was released around 7:15 this morning. The booking sheet reveals Richie is 5'1" and 85 lbs.

We're told two motorists spotted her SUV going the wrong way on the 134 Freeway in Burbank. The drivers called 911.

When the CHP responded, Richie was stopped in the carpool lane and was alone in the vehicle. When cops approached the vehicle, Richie was on her cellphone.

Law enforcement officers tell TMZ Nicole Richie admitted she had taken Vicodin and smoked pot.

A preliminary alcohol screening device revealed that Nicole was not under the influence of alcohol.

One law enforcement source tell TMZ that while Richie was at the jail she was "very cooperative and very humble."

This is not the first brush Richie has had with substance abuse. In 2003, she pled guilty to heroin possession. The charges were dismissed after she completed the terms of her probation.

A rep for Richie had no comment.

TMZ has learned that Richie hired celebrity lawyer Howard Weitzman to rep her in this latest incident.

31. Over 90% of the comments are about her damm weight, who cares!!!!! She was driving at 4:30 in the morning with vicodin and pot in her system and she was driving the wrong way!!!!!!!!!!! She could have killed someone. These so called "Stars" are soo pampered and don't give a damm about anyone but themselves. If Nicole chooses not to eat that is her problem, if she kills someone maybe someone you know and care for, how worried are you going to be about her weight then???

34. FYI: DUI means "Driving Under the Influence" - not alcohol, but some other mood-altering substance. DWI is Driving While Intoxicated.

37. As messed up as Nicole is, and not "defending" her, I know 1st hand how hard it is for some people to gain weight, and the RITICULE that comes with it.

I am 5' 1" and 90 pounds...not much more than her. Unlike her, I think I look pretty healthy and porportionate. At 22 years old, I have NEVER hit over 95 pounds in my life.

Just my 2 cents...

38. Where are this girl's family and friends? I can only imagine that they want to stay on the gravy train of money and publicity, but someone has to realize that their "friends" or "family" member is screaming for help. Please stop indulging and enabling them, help them to become contributing members of society and not theshallow money hungry/publicity seeking fools that they are. And someone please tell them that as disgusted as I think most of us must be with this activity (DUI for starts), that things would really be over for them if they killed an innocent person under the guise of their partying. Grow up you shallow starlets!

39. If you look at any number of cultures where the women tend to be small, 85 to 110 pounds is almost usual. My Vietamese nail tech has the same stats, but it is how one maintains the weight.

This is a girl who needs help, but her weight level is an indicator but not necessarily the problem. Taking vicodin, smoking pot and drinking alcohol are not good things to do regardless of weight level. I hope Nicole gets herself together.

41. In typical Hollywood fashion she will now cast herself as the victim. She will enter rehab for drug abuse and eating disorders. Then she will just get a slap on the wrist from the judge when she pleads no contest.

43. DUI is driving under the influence. The influence can be alcohol or other substances, i.e., drugs.

It is clear to me that this young woman is screaming out for help. If
she doesn't get it soon, she may no longer be able to screm.

44. Oh TMZ get it right...the 134 does not go through Burbank! The 5 goes through Burbank, and the 134 does connect to the 5 that goes up to Burbank. But the 134 goes through Glendale. Just want your information to be correct. So you might want to fix that!
