Nicole Richie Popped for DUI

TMZ has learned that Nicole Richie was arrested for DUI early Monday morning. She was booked at 4:50 AM today and was released around 7:15 this morning. The booking sheet reveals Richie is 5'1" and 85 lbs.

We're told two motorists spotted her SUV going the wrong way on the 134 Freeway in Burbank. The drivers called 911.

When the CHP responded, Richie was stopped in the carpool lane and was alone in the vehicle. When cops approached the vehicle, Richie was on her cellphone.

Law enforcement officers tell TMZ Nicole Richie admitted she had taken Vicodin and smoked pot.

A preliminary alcohol screening device revealed that Nicole was not under the influence of alcohol.

One law enforcement source tell TMZ that while Richie was at the jail she was "very cooperative and very humble."

This is not the first brush Richie has had with substance abuse. In 2003, she pled guilty to heroin possession. The charges were dismissed after she completed the terms of her probation.

A rep for Richie had no comment.

TMZ has learned that Richie hired celebrity lawyer Howard Weitzman to rep her in this latest incident.

48. Where are this girl's family and friends? I can only imagine that they want to stay on the gravy train of money and publicity, but someone has to realize that their "friends" or "family" member is screaming for help. Please stop indulging and enabling them, help them to become contributing members of society and not theshallow money hungry/publicity seeking fools that they are. And someone please tell them that as disgusted as I think most of us must be with this activity (DUI for starts), that things would really be over for them if they killed an innocent person under the guise of their partying. Grow up you shallow starlets!

You got some cash to spare right, go out get yourself a treadmill and a gym membership and a cassette tape called working out to the oldies and sweat out that excess weight. 52. It really amazes me to see how judgemental we are. If this woman was unknown, I don't think anyone would care. Of course those in her inner circle would. The point is, she is human just like all of us and making a mistake is not the end of the world. I would never judge her, but I would encourage her to get the help she needs to conrtol her own life.

53. In typical Hollywood fashion she will now cast herself as the victim. She will enter rehab for drug abuse and eating disorders. Then she will just get a slap on the wrist from the judge when she pleads no contest.

54. Oh TMZ get it right...the 134 does not go through Burbank! The 5 goes through Burbank, and the 134 does connect to the 5 that goes up to Burbank. But the 134 goes through Glendale. Just want your information to be correct. So you might want to fix that!

55. DUI is driving under the influence. The influence can be alcohol or other substances, i.e., drugs.

It is clear to me that this young woman is screaming out for help. If
she doesn't get it soon, she may no longer be able to screm.

59. Hello!!!

The article clearly states she had no alcohol in her system. She admitted to taking vicodin and smoking some pot.

Under the influence doesnt always mean drinking. It can also mean inder the influence of drugs or medications that hinder your driving.

I think its so sad she is only 85lbs. She was so gorgeous and healthy on the first Simple Life.

I hope she gets healthy again.

60. 85 lbs. is about 30-40lbs too light for her. my god, my 6 yr old daughter weights 50 lbs and she is tiny
