Nicole Richie Popped for DUI

TMZ has learned that Nicole Richie was arrested for DUI early Monday morning. She was booked at 4:50 AM today and was released around 7:15 this morning. The booking sheet reveals Richie is 5'1" and 85 lbs.

We're told two motorists spotted her SUV going the wrong way on the 134 Freeway in Burbank. The drivers called 911.

When the CHP responded, Richie was stopped in the carpool lane and was alone in the vehicle. When cops approached the vehicle, Richie was on her cellphone.

Law enforcement officers tell TMZ Nicole Richie admitted she had taken Vicodin and smoked pot.

A preliminary alcohol screening device revealed that Nicole was not under the influence of alcohol.

One law enforcement source tell TMZ that while Richie was at the jail she was "very cooperative and very humble."

This is not the first brush Richie has had with substance abuse. In 2003, she pled guilty to heroin possession. The charges were dismissed after she completed the terms of her probation.

A rep for Richie had no comment.

TMZ has learned that Richie hired celebrity lawyer Howard Weitzman to rep her in this latest incident.

80. She wasn't drunk.. she was on drugs! Either way.. California needs to crack down on driving while intoxicated by time in jail, no matter who you are. That will stop this from happening.

81. Read the article before you write your comments. DUI is Driving Under the Influence, influence being any intoxicating substance. She said she took Vicodin and smoked pot and had not drank any alcohol. She probably has to take Vicodin to ease the pain of her stomach trying to eat itself, or to keep the pot from giving her the munchies! If she doesn't change the way she is taking care of herself the next headline she'll make is in the obituary.

83. My God. I've never liked Nicole Richie personally, (and right now it's to the point where the very mention of her name makes me want to puke) but I used to feel sorry for her. I saw her on "The E! True Hollywood Story" about three years ago, the one about "Rock Star Daughters", and I actually felt kind of sorry for her and even believed her when she said she'd learned her lesson after the heroin bust. But after this latest caper of hers, (I know this is going to sound really heartless) she can either waste away to nothing or zonk out on drugs and I don't care which way she goes. I'm through with having any sympathy for this train wreck that cares nothing about anyone or anything but herself.

84. my daughter is just under 5 feet and when she is 100 pounds she is pretty damn small - cannot imagine weighing what Nicole weighs and looking anywhere normal.

85. DUI means "Driving" under the influence, not drunk under the Influence. She could have been driving under the Influence without drinking!!!

88. This is Celebrity Justice: Possession of heroin & marijuana dismissed. I know person who did five years for a possession of a joint. Lives destroyed; families disconnected; limited employment after serving time; and right to vote eliminated. Our justice system is sometimes shameful.

What in the world does anyone expect from a child that's been lost for a while now, she's been in denier since the news break about her being so thin, if she cannot admit that she's sick who are we to say she has a problem and find a solution for her problem? I consider her a lost soul and there is nothing more to add, other than that we all wait and see where this all ends, I pray for the likes of her and her friends whom the society has allowed to waist away in the name of fame. If only this society will stop glorifying thin as beautiful we would not have to be talking about this issue, where a living being would have to purge herself to look beautiful. Lets quit talking about this lost souls.
