Someone Else Will Die

Photo montage of Nicole RichieA 17-year-old boy has already died in an SUV driven by a celebrity. Someone else is going to die, and it will happen sooner rather than later.

Nicole Richie's loved ones could easily have been planning her funeral today -- likewise the loved ones of the people driving the right way on the 134 Freeway early Monday morning.

Lane Garrison must be scratching his head today. Why, he must be asking, did he have such bad luck? The fact is, the differentiating factor that makes Garrison a killer and Richie a DUI'er is luck. That's it.

I'm not trying to preach, and I will readily admit that TMZ has prospered off the antics of a group of young celebrities. When Brandon Davis went on his "firecrotch" rant against Lindsay, it was endlessly entertaining. When Paris got in fender-benders, it was so TMZ. And when Britney spread her legs for all the world to see, well it was Internet gold.

But the line has been crossed. The dark side of Hollywood has been revealed in the last month. And really, it's no surprise. There are a lot of young celebs who got really rich and very famous way too soon. The people who surround them are not used to saying "no." These celebs have gotten away with a lot -- mostly small stuff -- for a long time. And each time you get away with something you shouldn't, you get bolder the next time.

These celebs, for the most part, have no compass to guide them. Look at Lindsay Lohan. Her dad used the revolving door at his local jail while her mom was at war with him when she wasn't out partying. Lohan really didn't stand a chance, and it's sad.

So who will save the day and save these kids from disaster? In this town, saviors are awfully hard to come by.

196. Thank you for changing the title and first sentence so quickly. It's much more respectful now.

197. Post # 190 nicole : That was a very intelligent blog. Your parents did a wonderful job raising you. The rest of these young Hollywood actors could have used the discipline and guidence that you were fortunate enough to get.

The hardest thing for a parent to do is to just say " NO' every now and again. I find myself struggling with that. But I do it because I know I am leaving behind a legacy and it's my responsibility to make sure it's one with values and character.
Thanks for contributing. I hope other girls your age will read it and absorb it.. I'll just bet your parents are very proud of you.

198. When will the courts realize that these stars are human just like us and they should get the same punishment as us. Just because they are rich amd famous they get special treatment.
thos judges should be taken of the bench if they cant give them the same punishment as us.I lose respect in those who get away without being punished by the courts.
to bad we all cant be rich.

200. TMZ... you're a bunch of hypocrites!!!

You earn your living by stalking celebrities and writing trash about them on your website. Now you have a conscious??!! You're actually concerned??!! Yeah, right.

I'll bet your people were out last night "stalking" them again.

Get real!

201. Yes, the courts need to send a lesson to the silver-spoon crowd. Time in the slammer for Lane. The "social elite" need to be abide by the law like everyone else. My heart goes out to the family of the young boy who died. If Mr. Garrison walks away with a tap on the wrist, it will prove yet again that the law favors the wealthy.

202. I think this was a well writen post and I hope it doesn't happen...but I'm afraid that it will.. I don't think that it helps that these people get special treatment and umpteenth tries at Rehab, ....but that in a lot (Not all, but a Lot) of cases no one has the guts to take away the car keys from celebrities or tell them NO. Too many people on the payroll, too much butt kissing, and where the hell are some of their families or so called close friends to help?

I think the police and the law need to start getting tougher and stop covering up for these people. Doesn't matter how famous you are, if you injure of kill someeone-Why should you get preferential treatment? People keep feeling sorry for the celebs-Oh what a Great Talent Wasted. What about their victims? What about what they could become-or even if they just live *Ordidnary Lives*-They are still special to someone. Like having talent (or just plain celebrity) means the person shouldn't have to face the consequences. NO. Get help or use some of your money to hire a driver if you won't stop self-destructing. Sad that you are killing yourself, but why should someone else have to die too?

203. stop reporting on them endlessly and maybe they will just go away. by constantly following and reporting on their every move, you are just perpetuating their out of control behavior.

STOP THE INSANITY!

204. Well said... these girls are out of control!Today's alcoholics are yesterday's "Party Girls" ... I could care less if they wrap their own car around a tree...but they are putting innocent lives in peril.

205. Oh please TMZ!!! If anything you guys egg on all that attention grabbing crap that they do and probably drive them to drugs from all the crap you post about them, most of it out of speculation. So to all the sudden try to sound concerned is a bunch of crap, send her flowers and promise to leave her out of your gossip pages until she gets better. I bet you pious members of righteousness would NEVER do that. Shut it up.
