Someone Else Will Die

Photo montage of Nicole RichieA 17-year-old boy has already died in an SUV driven by a celebrity. Someone else is going to die, and it will happen sooner rather than later.

Nicole Richie's loved ones could easily have been planning her funeral today -- likewise the loved ones of the people driving the right way on the 134 Freeway early Monday morning.

Lane Garrison must be scratching his head today. Why, he must be asking, did he have such bad luck? The fact is, the differentiating factor that makes Garrison a killer and Richie a DUI'er is luck. That's it.

I'm not trying to preach, and I will readily admit that TMZ has prospered off the antics of a group of young celebrities. When Brandon Davis went on his "firecrotch" rant against Lindsay, it was endlessly entertaining. When Paris got in fender-benders, it was so TMZ. And when Britney spread her legs for all the world to see, well it was Internet gold.

But the line has been crossed. The dark side of Hollywood has been revealed in the last month. And really, it's no surprise. There are a lot of young celebs who got really rich and very famous way too soon. The people who surround them are not used to saying "no." These celebs have gotten away with a lot -- mostly small stuff -- for a long time. And each time you get away with something you shouldn't, you get bolder the next time.

These celebs, for the most part, have no compass to guide them. Look at Lindsay Lohan. Her dad used the revolving door at his local jail while her mom was at war with him when she wasn't out partying. Lohan really didn't stand a chance, and it's sad.

So who will save the day and save these kids from disaster? In this town, saviors are awfully hard to come by.

16. This is another reason I'm proud to say I read this site. Way to keep it real homes!

17. Well, first off these celebrities will never be wanting for a "yes" man or "yes" girl at their side telling them how fabulous they are. That's just the nature of the biz. Hell, some of these "yes" people are their own family, mooching off the talented off spring they squirted out. Hell even Billy Ray Cyrus managed to get back in the spotlight by throwing his daughter to the Disney wolves. But something that I have always maintained when posting comments like this is that....WE MAKE THESE PEOPLE!!!!! If we don't pay attention to them, don't see their movies, or buy their lame ass cd's or clothing line, they will fade away into obscurity. But now I'm tired, and I just want to say that there will most likely be one more celebrity death in the next few days. Actor Peter Boyle just passed, as well as Oscar Klein (musician). I'm sure TMZ will be all over the next one, cuz these things happen in three's.

19. I think you make really good points. People in all walks of life make bad decisions. Just because they are supposed to maintain a wholesome persona doesn't mean they have to. They are human. I also believe you aren't a celebrity and can't judge someone until you walk in their shoes. I don't mean any of this offensive, but I do not feel like you are the one to define perfection.

20. Agreed. Somewhere, they need to learn moral and personal responsibility. Doesn't look like they're learning it at home. Thanks for the sobering truth, TMZ. Don't drink/do drugs and drive. Totally not worth it for anybody, famous or not.

Nicole Richie has already been in rehab for heroin. All she's done is substitute that for other drugs and possibly an eating disorder. Does that somehow make it better than heroin? Yet, she has a hit tv show and great clothes and lots of young girls envy and look up to her. It's pathetic. What the hell kind of role model is that? Good role models start at home. Guess Ms. Richie missed out on that....

21. Good job Harvey

22. The Nicole and Paris types, who have nothing else to offer but being out of control tragedies, I have no sympathy for. I would not be suprised if in her drunken haze Nicole was thinking about how much press this would get her. Lindsey, I feel a little sorry for because she had SO much potential. Britney, over it. Please go away.

I suppose all the attention could cause a bit of a breakdown. I turn into a total wreck when I go to the grocery store and that alarm thing goes off because of something in my bag. I couldn't imagine CONSTANT scrutiny...

23. The phrase is "Hear! Hear!", not "Here! Here!" You want someone to listen, not come to you.

24. Harvey, someone DID die. His name is Vahagn Setian. Perhaps you should change the title of this to Someone FAMOUS Will Die. Last I checked, you didn't have to be on a lettered list to count as "someone" at the morgue.

25. we helped creating these monsters by buying the magazines . In reality none of these kids have any talent except lindsey lohan and shes going to throw all of it away soon. most of these kids shouldnt even be in the clubs. why aren't the clubs cited anyway?paris is the silliest slut ,no talent of them all. why do we have to hear about these losers with all the real actors in hollywood.

26. Yeah the paparazzi are terriblw

i agree that the pics up britney's skirt is totally an invasion of privacy and disgusting, and diana's death was terrible, but we (fans/commenters/readers) don't force these people to do the things they do. no paparazzi made nicole get a dui, noone even was there (for once!) like i said before, this is a lifestyle that has always been going on in hollywood, but it was kept quiet. we didn't even know how karen carpenter died for years. now the paparazzi is there to show us. one good thing is that perhaps all these youngs girls fantasies of going to hollywood will dwindle when they see what its really like.
don't get me wrong i think the paps are really annoying, but they are not the cause. these kids should know right from wrong!

29. How can anyone blame the paparazzi for a celebrity making the choice to drink and drive. Some of the people who comment on this site are brainless. We need them and they need us, however, we don't get them drunk or drugged up and hand them the keys to a car!. Diane was killed by her drunk driver not the paparazzi.
