Train Wrecks
Someone Else Will Die

Photo montage of Nicole RichieA 17-year-old boy has already died in an SUV driven by a celebrity. Someone else is going to die, and it will happen sooner rather than later.

Nicole Richie's loved ones could easily have been planning her funeral today -- likewise the loved ones of the people driving the right way on the 134 Freeway early Monday morning.

Lane Garrison must be scratching his head today. Why, he must be asking, did he have such bad luck? The fact is, the differentiating factor that makes Garrison a killer and Richie a DUI'er is luck. That's it.

I'm not trying to preach, and I will readily admit that TMZ has prospered off the antics of a group of young celebrities. When Brandon Davis went on his "firecrotch" rant against Lindsay, it was endlessly entertaining. When Paris got in fender-benders, it was so TMZ. And when Britney spread her legs for all the world to see, well it was Internet gold.

But the line has been crossed. The dark side of Hollywood has been revealed in the last month. And really, it's no surprise. There are a lot of young celebs who got really rich and very famous way too soon. The people who surround them are not used to saying "no." These celebs have gotten away with a lot -- mostly small stuff -- for a long time. And each time you get away with something you shouldn't, you get bolder the next time.

These celebs, for the most part, have no compass to guide them. Look at Lindsay Lohan. Her dad used the revolving door at his local jail while her mom was at war with him when she wasn't out partying. Lohan really didn't stand a chance, and it's sad.

So who will save the day and save these kids from disaster? In this town, saviors are awfully hard to come by.

31. What needs to change is the legal system. Everyone else is held accountable for their actions so why aren't these celebrities? They all get off with nothing more than a slap on the wrist so why should they obey the law? They are allowed to drink underage, they aren't cited for traffic tickets/accidents and they are driving impaired. The police know this and are a huge part of the problem but continue to turn a blind eye. Something needs to change and quick.

32. Two years ago, an acquaintance was extremely drunk, ended up driving the wrong way on an off-ramp from the freeway, and swiftly killed himself and two others in another vehicle. One of the most horrific stories I'd ever heard. It's amazing to me that Nicole Richie's actions didn't result in something more devastating. Unfortunately, I agree that this behavior by young, rich celebrities with so much time on their hands is probably going to continue (putting the rest of us mere mortals at their mercy) until one of them kills themselves and/or others.

33. Yup, I've been waiting to hear about someone "famous" being killed. But it never seems to happen, it's always the person in the other car or a passenger. Yet I'm sure that someone's number is about to be up. The way odds work, it almost has to be!

Rude as it may seem, I actually hope it's not Britney. Sure, she's been f-ing up a lot lately, but she has 2 kids. It's only cause of THEIR INNONCENCE I hope it's not her. Course they are young enough, but that would mean that looser KFed-Ex would probably get custody. Talk about out of the frying pan & into the fire.

35. *C* You are so right but I didnt get my point out directly and It came off a little misconstrewed and thats my fault, lol. Oh yes everyone should know right from wrong but you know what in all honesty and fariwill, WE WOULD ALL look out of control and what not IF we had access to everything they do. And not one of you can deny that. Heck even now we as humans make huge mistakes but we dont have people documenting our every move so there its easy for us to judge others when in reality we dont KNOW the truth we just beleive the media and others that do things for stories. The fact is WE ARE ALL like they are to some extent and we ALL need to take responsiblity for our OWN lives cause you, nor I or anyone else woud want to have million of people that dont know sh!t about us, telling us what they THINK we should do. Live y our own lives for once and stop degrading others!

36. I couldn't have said it better myself. Even though I love to read about it, it is such a shame that these people get away with the things they do.

37. It is sad, but I agree with whomever said the media created this. What are Nicole Ritchie and Paris Hilton even famous for? Partying? They sure don't have any mentionable talents, and they're not even that wealthy (relatively). These are just higher profile examples of things that happen every day to people we know or love. Maybe we should care more about them.

38. Nicely said TMZ. I am sorry that you get to see all these train wrecks happening around you. I hope you know how many parents also frequent this site watching and gaining from your knowledge to help our children not worship these folks or go there too. Thank you. Happy Holidays.

39. Nicely put. I'm guilty by refreshing my TMZ page constantly throughout the day for the latest gossip but I loathe seeing the Young Hollywood as my reading material. I like the idea of the media taking a break and not following these kids around during their every move. Problem is, that they won't stop messing up, it just won't be on tape!

The media and this society has put so much awe into our celebrities....we've forgotten that these are the theater and band nerds that everyone made fun of in high school !!!! They are regular people who fart and pick their noses just like everyone else yet we make them out to be Hereos. We all need to stop.

Now, let me go refresh my TMZ page......

40. I completely agree. Finally someone has gotten past the glitz and glamour or hollywood stars and gossip, and writes about the raw truth of it all.

41. Yeah the paparazzi are terrible

43. Thank God people are speaking out against these spoiled brats...they're are not just putting their own lives at stake anymore with these attention-desperate antics - they are risking other peoples' lives as well.

WAKE UP HOLLYWOOD AND GET OVER YOURSELF!!

Posted at 1:49PM on Dec 13th 2006 by Rachel

44. WOW!!!

Unfortunetly, the only way hollywood will learn is if something horibble happens to one of these youngsters. Lindsey, Britney, Paris & Nicole....it could be one of them anytime. They could either be killed being stupid with thier drug use, alcohol abuse or drunk driving!!!! Or even worse, THEY could kill someone else!! Those girls need to learn a lesson....

Jenna out!

K-FED looks like Pope John Paul now....lol

Posted at 1:37PM on Dec 13th 2006 by Jenna

45. Yes, there are many factors that can be blamed for this behavior. But the bottom line is that everyone makes their OWN decisions of how they are going to conduct themselves. We each get out of bed every day and decided what we are going to do and how we are going to do it. It's up to all of us individually. So, please don't put all the blame on the paparazzi, or the parents, or the industry. It's a shame that these people are being looked up to as role models because their lives are obviously totally out of control and none of them are strong enough to stand up and take control. Britney, this includes you too! To me, Brit is even worse because she is acting like a 16 yr old party girl while leaving two small children at home. Shame on you.
