Train Wrecks
Someone Else Will Die

Photo montage of Nicole RichieA 17-year-old boy has already died in an SUV driven by a celebrity. Someone else is going to die, and it will happen sooner rather than later.

Nicole Richie's loved ones could easily have been planning her funeral today -- likewise the loved ones of the people driving the right way on the 134 Freeway early Monday morning.

Lane Garrison must be scratching his head today. Why, he must be asking, did he have such bad luck? The fact is, the differentiating factor that makes Garrison a killer and Richie a DUI'er is luck. That's it.

I'm not trying to preach, and I will readily admit that TMZ has prospered off the antics of a group of young celebrities. When Brandon Davis went on his "firecrotch" rant against Lindsay, it was endlessly entertaining. When Paris got in fender-benders, it was so TMZ. And when Britney spread her legs for all the world to see, well it was Internet gold.

But the line has been crossed. The dark side of Hollywood has been revealed in the last month. And really, it's no surprise. There are a lot of young celebs who got really rich and very famous way too soon. The people who surround them are not used to saying "no." These celebs have gotten away with a lot -- mostly small stuff -- for a long time. And each time you get away with something you shouldn't, you get bolder the next time.

These celebs, for the most part, have no compass to guide them. Look at Lindsay Lohan. Her dad used the revolving door at his local jail while her mom was at war with him when she wasn't out partying. Lohan really didn't stand a chance, and it's sad.

So who will save the day and save these kids from disaster? In this town, saviors are awfully hard to come by.

77. It's interesting that TMZ would choose NOW to be offended, but hey, better late than never. You are dead on and these people contribute nothing, absolutely NOTHING, to society. I am sick to death of reading/hearing about their nothingness lives and will personally be taking a break. Real news is James Kim losing his life to trek 10 miles in a frozen wilderness to save his wife and young children. Real news is foreign leaders, and hopefully the US, joining together to end the violence in Darfur. Real news is what our nation will do to stabilize the situation in Iraq. I feel embarrassed I've spent any time here at all. I encourage you all to just STOP. BOYCOTT, BOYCOTT, BOYCOTT. Surely, we can find better things to do, so let's get out there and GET LIVES!

79. Where I applaud TMZ for making a statement, I still have to say...GIVE ME A BREAK!

These girls are only victims of their own selfish needs. There are young people all over the world who grew up in less than perfect conditions and yet they don't resort to acts of self-humiliation coupled with an apparent disregard for human life.

Fine, these girl's homelives are not perfect. Who's is? But they fortunate to have the means to make it easier to become more. I know money does not fix everything, but it helps...a lot. Yet instead of doing anything, they wallow in self-pity, act as if the world owes them something and waits for the sympathy train to roll in an save them.

It's time to stop passing around shipping magnet heirs like a used tissue, act like they have some damn sense and maybe start contributing to the world something more than shots of their bare asses.

Having a poor family life is no reason for you to be a complete waste of DNA. It didn't work of Dahlmer and it won’t work here either.

80. You're right, but there are a lot of us "old school" parents out here that have known this since we were raised by our "old school" parents! Garbage in, garbage out. You aren't what you wear. Partying just makes you old and ugly faster than you realize. It's NOT ABOUT YOU!

TMZ rocks, and I'm so hooked on having your latest info. But what if we saw ourselves and our country only through TMZ, People, MTV, etc? I know I'd think the Americans were a bunch of wasted, rich, spoiled, inconsiderate, selfish goons who cared about no one but themselves. How can we more accurately portray to the world who we really are???

Thanks for exposing this!

81. #55, Sherri Davis, Are you lost girl? We are talking about Nicole Richie and spoiled celebs, take that crap to cnn or msnbc. Uhhhhh.

82. What is taking so long for these two celebs to be charged with DUI??? They both belong in jail. Any "average joe" not a celeb is usually still sitting in jail. They are nobody special and should not receive any special treatment because of who they are. It's funny that they still can't determine if Lane Garrison was drunk after 7 shots of Grey Goose... DUH!!! who would'nt be??

83. The Savior is probably too easy to come by. That's why no one believes true freedom is really free. Wonder what's missing? Ask HIM.

86. Thank you for saying this, I was thinking the same thing. How many people have to get die before everyone, not just celebrities, learn some personal responsiblity and not get behind the wheel after drinking, drugging or both....

87. I agree #66 Vickie. Being a mom to a newborn, you should be home with that child. A night with our friends is cool but coming home at god knows what hour of the night smelling of booze and smoke is not cool. Showing your crotch to the world is definately not cool. (Mistake or not) I used to defend Britney but now I kinda of look down on her after her divorce and think "WHY?" What happened? She had a bad ruin in the media for awhile (2 years) then she started to look good and kind of her old self again. Then WHAM all this negative press!

88. Echoing everyone's supportive thoughts here.

It's sad that these celebs will only read this item if someone actually dares to show it to them (the latest PR flack right before they get fired - or HOPEFULLY listened to). The reality is that they're probably keeping most of 'em away from the internet - if they even bother with the internet at all, which I doubt, except to feed their various nefarious habits. Thank God my kids are 100 times better than these hacks.

89. Nicole has a problem... and she is sick.

to call her out on her problem is not fair.

Yes, it is bad and someone could have died. But that didn't happen and she should be grateful for that.

but everyone should be focusing on helping her overcome her sickness so that she can become a better person. Not bashing her for it.

90. how about all the non-celebrities that do stupid stuff??? i know a lot of normal people that do this kind of stuff everyday! the ONLY difference is is that their business is not posted all over TMZ.com.... we need to start saying "people in general need to stop driving under the influence" and not focus on celebrities only...
