19. Oprah can do whatever she wants with her money. What is Britney Spears doing with hers? Or Paris Hilton? Do they give anything at all to society, any society, except fodder for you with nothing better than do that follow them? I thank God for Oprah's generousity in a country as poor as Africa. If some of these rappers would give to the inner schools instead of pretending to be gangstas and pouring champagne on the floor, we all would be in better shape. 20. I read the story about Oprah and at first I agreed, but then I read 5-Nicole and had a different thought. Watching the inner-cities from a distance it's easy to say this is how they live. But you don't see any black leaders trying to help right this ship. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton just come and take advantage of the people. Oprah needs to realize that it would be great if she tryed to find ways of helping people in these neighborhoods help themselves. Education is always the key. Also, with 70% out-of-wedlock birth rate this is a huge problem to tackle and education is also the key. There are other celebrities who run around with 50k watches and don't give back a thing Sean Coombs comes to mind.

I believed Diddy ran the New York Marathon to raise money for inner city schools. Diddy might be extravagant, but he does shell out money for charities, and that is not discussed as much as his parties.

I am sick of Oprah, lately some of the things that come out of her mouth is downright stupid and she is becoming those celeberties that she is so foubd of talking up. Sure, third world countries need up and someone has to speak for them, just not her. Trust me,those girls in Africa were schooled on who she was before she arrived, if not, that school would not be there.

22. The beautiful thing about America is this...you can do WHATEVER you want with your own damn money! If we lived in a damn Socialist society, THEN we could force Oprah to give that money to American schools, but thank GOD we don't! Why we're jumping on Oprah for building a super nice school in South Africa is beyond me, coming from a woman who singlehandedly changed my, and many other African-American women's, view of what we could do in this country...The one woman who isn't making money off of talking about her sexual exploits with rappers and athletes, the one woman who isn't shaking her ass for a few dollars, the one woman who really knows what 'pick yourself up with your bootstraps' really means, and you all are upset that she built a SCHOOL!? You want things better in your backyard? Tell your kids that everything that comes out of Eminem's mouth isn't the damn gospel. You want things better in your backyard? Stop looking to CELEBRITIES to fix YOUR problems, ie, your kids would rather play ball than read a book. You want things better in your backyard? YOU be the role model to your kids and the kids in the community, that way they won't HAVE to look towards celebrities for guidance, although Oprah is a better role model than many parents in this country! I don't know why people think it's cool for America to police the world, but there's a problem when people wanna adopt kids from other countries and build schools there...Like it or not, America is a GLOBAL superpower in a GLOBAL economy....And just because our little sisters that Oprah is helping out are African and not African-AMERICAN does not mean that they are any less deserving of help. Shame on every single person who cannot accept this act of genuine kindness... How come we never talk about the fact that part of the reason that public schools in this country suck is because a lot of the kids that go there would rather be doing something other than learning? I went to public schools my whole life, and while we didn't have a lot of things that private school kids had, simply being surrounded by other kids who wanted to learn just as badly as I did is the reason why I'm a junior at USC right now...The attitudes towards education need to change, not what Oprah does with her money.

That is so true. I can see why Oprah and Bill Cosby get frustrated and speak out on inner city kids. It's like trying to move a mountain, it won't budge. I think what needs to happen is get these big rap stars that came from the inner city and have them give back. Instead of selling drinks, and clothes, they should tell them what their favorite book was (if they ever read a book) or their subject was in school. But then again, most of these rappers probably dropped out of high school, so I retract what I just said. Oprah and Bill have every right to be upset, I'll never understand how you can have a 200 dollar cell phone with no heat in your home, or how you can have the latest iPod and have to go to the library to download because you don't have a computer at home. And these moms wonder why they work 3 jobs. They're supporting materialistic things instead of putting something in their mind. Only a few actually come out and do something with their lives.

I rather go to any poor country first, because working with people that DON'T WANT an education, or to better themselves, why preach the good in it until your blue in the face if they don't want it? Go somewhere where you are wanted and where you will be appreciated. Besides, we have programs to help better ourselves if we're poor on the street, no one should be poor in America, when you have programs that will help you to be a multimillionare (Chris Gardner from the Pursuit of Happyness) if you can go from poor to rolling in your dough from making movies in 7 years (Tyler Perry) than you can do anything. There's no excuse for Americans, no matter how bad you have it, because I've heard how battered women, are doing just fine in their brand new houses, or how druggies are now born again Christians, living the good life, financially. Don't get mad at Oprah, get mad at the ones that don't want anything in life.

Britney has her own foundation, the Britney Spears Foundation. She gave money to Katrina victims and she also gives money to help build children's rooms in hospitals. If you had actually done research you would have figure that out!
