Oprah: I'm No Madonna

1/3/2007 3:47 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Amid controversy over her new South African school, Oprah Winfrey has thrown her support behind Madonna's controversial adoption. But unlike Madge, O won't be bringing any of the kids home anytime soon.

In an interview with "EXTRA" correspondent Jon Kelley that airs tonight, Winfrey pats celebs like Brangelina and the Material Girl on the back for their adoption of non-caucasian children. "With somebody like Brad and Angelina, their family is a little United Nations," says Winfrey, who also believes the negative response to Madonna's adoption of a Malawian child was "craziness."

Will Oprah follow in Madge's footsteps and bring one of the schoolgirls home with her? That's a big "No, no no no," from O.

#8 and the other idiots who agree with him or her: Like it or not African Americans make up a significant portion of this country and all those Black t.v. programs and publications you resent so much generate signficant advertising revenue for products and services YOU use everyday. You think these shows exist soley to keep things balanced and fair? Please. It's business.

You're right in that racism is a real problem in this country in that Blacks and Whites are too caught up in political correctedness--but please get your heads out of your asses in thinking Oprah is racist. She's not dumb enough to alienate her core audience--middle-class American women, many of whom are White. Finally, do you realize how few African Americans have the kind of platform Oprah has--a platform she uses to inspire others? She does have a big ego, but at least she's got some purpose.

Itch,
I appreciate your efforts, but you are wrong. It is not okay for us to refer to ourselves as n*******. I also disagree about blacks having a right to feel the way we do about whites. The past is the past. Period. Every race (whites?) has had a history of some sort of tragic event.

You American fools complain about immigration! Well this is part of the solution. These girls and boys (Oprah's going to open a 2nd school) will grow up and hopefully make a difference in their own country. This may mean, less visa applications for the USA. Most of you Americans wish Mexico would have opened 100 of these schools 50 years ago. (Amerikkka probably wouldn't have the immigration problem it has today.

Americans - you must learn to think globally. This is difficult for you. It upsets you when others do so. You feel slighted, angry, and betrayed. Typical reaction of pee brain retards. We are a global community.

PS I see none of you bitching about Donald Trump. What is he doing? Oh, that's right - he's having an immature, ignorant fight with Rosie O'donnell. Ok - Where's Martha Stewart. How many millions has she given away. I could go on but I'll stop there. At least Oprah is trying. Yes, it's her damn money. She can do with it as she wants. Think about that when your sipping on your $5 dollar Starbucks late - hypocrits!

WHY DIDN'T OPRAH JUST TAKE THE TIME AND TEACH AMERICA'S INNER CITY KIDS THAT A SOLID EDUCATION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN SNEAKERS OR A IPOD, INSTEAD OF CHASTISING THEM. THAT WON'T HELP THEIR SITUATION.

OPRAH HAS COME SUCH A LONG WAY THAT SHE SHOULD SPEND HER TIME, TEACHING THOSE IN THE STATES THE SAME VALUES THAT SHE'S TEACHING OVERSEAS, THAT WAY SHE'S NOT GIVING UP ON KIDS HERE THAT HAVE COME FROM EXACTLY WHERE SHE'S FROM, QUITE LITERALLY.

I love Oprah she does not have to adopt children to prove anything. not every woman desires's to raise a child, she content with her humanitarian and career. I don't like that hag Madonna though and do not support her adopting that child. I'am not feeling her doing it out the goodness of her heart. she's a fake and the father who gave her his kid is a f*cking loser and disgrace to the nubian race. he should get stomped by a rhino.

THE SOURCE

Truth to the matter is that when you adopt in this country and you are a celebrity and have lots land lots of money all of sudden the babies Family member come out of the woodwork so in a sense you are adopting them as well.

Dumbasses! Why doesn't the US government spend billions of dollars like they are in Iraq on inner city schools.

Why must you fools want Oprah to fix every damn thing! And what are you jackasses doing? Have any of you given a $1 to an inner city program? What about volunteer? But yet you knock Oprah.

Oprah has given MILLIONS of dollars to inner city schools. She's tired of writing checks and sees NO results. Has any of you been in an inner city school? Know any inner city children? Puhlease.

OPRAH HAS GIVEN MILLIONS, MILLIONS of dollars TO AMERICANS.

In South Africa, Oprah is drawing criticism from
some that believe that dozens of impoverished, Black girls are not
worthy of such an opportunity. Elsewhere, people are upset over this
for all sorts of reasons. I am going to address various points:

1)
It's Oprah's money and she can dispense it as she chooses. Her
calling in life is unique from everyone else's.

2) Oprah's philanthropy to many causes in America is quite abundant. Do your
research before you raise your criticism. She desires to initiate
philanthropy that will make a lasting impact.

Sometimes when you write a check to causes, it is futile Over the past
few years, I've been involved in a time-intensive mentoring program
for America's youth. We roll out the red carpet in terms of
opportunity for many of these kids in terms of educational resources,
activities, arts and culture. Some of these teenagers are from middle class families even. Yet we can't always succeed in getting
them to achieve and they are unappreciative. Should I mention, such
poor manners and self-absorption. Some kids have a chip on their
shoulders like they deserve all they are being given. Nowadays, I
would more likely devote my resources to a project like Oprah's
because it will yield more effective outcomes and make a bigger
change in the world.

3) Not all Africans are poor. South Africa is
the richest African country but it has a history of institutionalized
disadvantage for Blacks and "Coloreds". It will take years to change this.
Having said this, the scale of poverty, and access to adequate free
education vastly differs between Western countries and many parts of
Africa.

4) Adding on to point (3) above, educating girls in 3rd world
countries is the quickest way to spur socioeconomic change there
because studies show that women positively affect their extended
family/environment when they, instead of men are recipients of
benevolence . Also education is often withheld from poor girls in
3rd world; fin poor families, preference is given to boys. The South
African educational system is still inequitable according to factors
of race and class.

5) The racial distribution of the school's incoming class has gotten
much criticism amongst those who don't completely understand
the issues. There are 2 white students, some Asians and other "Coloreds", with the vast majority being Black. There are likely to be few Whites enrolled in
the school for years to come because those from households earning
more than $10K annually don't qualify to attend the school. The school
offers opportunity to those with few economic options and who show great potential.

6) Yes, folks, $40 million is the typical cost to start an
institution of this caliber. Also, other similar private schools
around the world offer the similar basic, amenities/facilities that
many of you are vexed over.

7) There are huge issues of misprioritization in how America's politicians expend funds for basic services like education. America is acapitalistic society
where the top 2% hold over 80% of the wealth. Oprah is not on the
planet to solve all the problems whose alleviation requires input from
average citizens.

8) The desire for education is at the forefront of
the minds of many poor children in the 3rd world. Good schooling is a privilege
that is often not free. Such kids value education and regard
authority figures with deserved respect.

9) Lastly, for those of you who are outraged over Oprah's comments
that she doesn't have to make excuses to White South Africans, you
should at least consider the impact of editing and soundbites on your
ability to understand the issues. Although seemingly callous, I believe
these comments may have been made in response to certain criticism.
Keep in mind that some South Africans questioned why Oprah was spending
so much on poor Black girls and viewed it as a wasted effort.

10) Finally, Oprah will also open up a boy's school

11) In these pages, I've seen how your hatred for the "queen of talk" has led many of you to scrutinize insignificant aspects of her life. You are ready to make sweeping judgments and misstatements of matters that you don't understand and that are only of concern to Oprah. My advice to many of you is to try to shine your own lights to make your community a better place. Then you'll have little time to spend spewing negativity which does nothing to better anyone.

Thanks for reading.
Peace.

Seriously

She looks like she's about 75 years old in that picture.
That outfit is horrible and so is her hair.
With all your money, can't you hire someone to make you
look even partially good looking although I know that's a stretch.

oprah has the right to do what she wants where ever she wants. who are you or we to judge? I completely agree with her that those children deserve the right to feel independent (in the sense we get/do have what we want one way or another) like the children in america, growing up in the advanced age, ipods, our own bed to sleep in, even having a solid roof over your head or living in a shelter- is not enough? I know its not "glamourous to live in a shelter or with your grandparents, the bottom line is the majority of people including children have a roof over their heads. Those children literally have NOTHING. let her put her money where she wants. I once was poor like she was growing up. Just because I was doesnt mean I should be angry at her for not putting the money back into the economy here for the children here. Let it go, she is a person just like you or me with our own decisions.
