Suzanne: At Least I Don't Have a Kid in Iraq

In the wake of a devastating fire that destroyed her Malibu home, Suzanne Somers maintains a positive attitude.

In a statement to TMZ issued by her rep, Suzanne says, "My nature is to look at the glass half full. I don't have a son or daughter in Iraq. I haven't lost a loved one. We will rebuild, and I truly believe we will learn something great from this experience."

Suzanne and her husband were not in Malibu during the blaze.

256. OK Kelly and those true jack a$$es who see her as 'honerable' or something for 'thinking of others'. She, like most other retards in Hollywood, will use any opportunity to speak out against something she doesn't even understand. War Crimes? Y'all go on living in your fantasy world that doesn't face the threats we face in the real world. Having a loved one overseas protecting our country is sooo far from comparable to losing a house it's sickening! We should be proud of our active duty military and commend them rather than treat them like victims not in control of their lives. I hope you people get killed by a suicide bomber. But I'm sure you'd just blame it on our President.

258. I don't think she meant that comment in a hateful way.My husband is on his 11th deployment 3rd time in Iraq cut her some slack she was only letting everyone realize she is not bad off her home is gone but not her spirit.Thats from an Air Force spouse loosen up.

259. Responding to SevenOver, comment #232:

So Suzanne gave $1000 to Gore 2000 Inc. (which is like saying the rest of us sent the man a dime, but I digress...)

I said she's a Republican, not a retard. Even Chrissy Snow could tell how dim-witted Dubya was, is and always will be.

My "good authority" has known her very well for many years. No need to double-check my comment, but keep trying to find her token contributions to Dubya's brain-having opponents if you want to try to make your point, douchebag.

261. I'M TRULY SORRY FOR HER HOUSE BUT...............................

A TYPICAL CELEBRITY BRINGING UP THE WAR, WE WERE TALKING ABOUT A HOUSE FIRE, CAN THEY EVER NOT USE A CHANCE TO DIG OR SLAM.

Posted at 2:06PM on Jan 10th 2007 by WHY BRING UP THE WAR

262. THERE IS A TIME AND PLACE. ........................THIS WASN'T IT.

THE HOLLYWOOD COMMUNITY, DOES NOT KNOW WHEN TO STOP. THIS HAS TURNED A STORY ABOUT A FIRE INTO A WAR BOARD. REALLY CHEEZIE.

Posted at 2:12PM on Jan 10th 2007 by SHE SHOULDN'T HAVE BROUGHT IT UP

263. YOU CAN'T GO ON ANY OTHER BOARD AND NOT HEAR ABOUT THE WAR. I KNOW IT IS IMPORTANT.........................BUT THIS WAS A FIRE STORY. SHE SHOULD HAVE STUCK TO THAT. A TYPICAL HOLLYWOOD CELEBRITY AGAIN DIGGING IN THEIR OWN WAY. SHOULD HAVE SAID WERE FINE, AND NO ONE WAS HURT. ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHE TOOK THE STORY ABOUT A FIRE AND MADE IT POLITICAL AGAIN.

264. I believe Ms. Somers was informing people that even though her house burned down, she is thankful that she does not have a son or daughter in Irag. She was not trying to be mean or thoughtless. I thank God everyday for the men and women serving our country and wish they would all return home safely to their loved ones. I can't speak for Ms. Somers, but I'm sure this is probably what she meant. I also believe she was saying a home can be rebuilt, but a life that is gone can never be replaced.

265. You idiots....SS was not criticizing anyone in Iraq. She was saying that in the grand scheme of things, her house burning down wasn't such a bad thing. There are worse things than losing your house, like having a loved one sent to Iraq, or worse still, sent but not return. She was saying that her house isn't as important as the soldiers. Just because someone mentions the war, whether they agree with it or not, does NOT mean they are downing the soldiers.

266. The war is not disrepectful.. What's happening in IRAQ could change the world. We are too short sighted.. Okay so there were no nukes there.. But that was just one of many reasons we went there. And no one has ever said what was on those trains leaving IRAQ going into Syria commanded by Russin troops! Remeber that. It got very little press by US media.. Yet they broadcast our every step right up to the second we went in and then they just got crazy with it. Here we come be there at 9:00am make sure you move all your stuff!

At any rate what if it settles down, what if a democracy in the midst of the middle east is created/ What if that democracy is headed by Muslims/ What iff they change the middle east? ap

267. Hey Jayna (#223) -- I know I'm asking a lot here, by asking you not to give the hackneyed, cliched, and entirely over-used anti-war talking point about the war being "illegal", but, as I pointed out in my post (#177) there ARE legal reasons for it, above and beyond the Congressional actions that were taken.

So here's my request, which I would be willing to wager you can't oblige: tell me why it's an illegal war. And, in the very improbable event you can handle that one, perhaps you could then argue how the "equal protection" clause, as it applied to the FL 2000 electoral vote did not apply, and how it was perfectly legal for Al to only ask for recounts in certain counties. After he tried to have 100's of absentee military ballots thrown out, that is.

I'm betting that you'll be so flustered by having to think for yourself, without the aid of MoveOn.org talking points, and so de-railed by being confronted by facts, that'll you'll go into a tizzy. But you're invited to try. :)

And for those that like to point out W's lack of mental muscle... at least he didn't flunk out of Divinity school like certain figures he's run against in national elections. But, yea, that his GPA at Yale for his Bachelor's degree was only slightly better than John Kerry's was a letdown to me as well. So perhaps you have a valid point about him there. To have only done marginally better, academically, than John Kerry isn't exactly a high bar to exceed.

268. Dear Cheryl and Kelly, Please learn how to spell. Thank you.
I believe that she was saying that losing her home is not nearly as devastating as losing a child in Iraq. Who knows? I wasn't offended by her comment. People get upset and worked up over little things. Wait to give yourselves a heart attack over something that's worth it.

Posted at 5:43PM on Jan 10th 2007 by Use spell check if you really don't know how to spell.

269. Why would you even mention Iraq, She could have said, at least my son/daughter has not been abducted by a petafile, or at least my son/daughter was not killed by a driveby shooting, or at least my son/dfaughter doesn'thave to worry about where they are going to get thier next meal. All of these things happen more frequently than deaths in Iraq do to our nation's son/daughters. Why even bring it up? Anything to bring attention to the fact that people die everyday in Iraq and that Susane Sommers' kids arent there. Well Ms. Sommers, some parent s are proud that thier children are being noble and serving a cause they believe in. Although Im sure you'd much be much prouder if those sodiers stayed home, became addicted to smack, had a bunch of unprotected sex, and aborted fetus' left and right. Next time try saying, 'Im glad my children are alive and healthy'. It accomplishes the same thing you said and does so without making an ass of yourself.

270. At least Ms. Somers has some perspective on things.
