Suzanne: At Least I Don't Have a Kid in Iraq

In the wake of a devastating fire that destroyed her Malibu home, Suzanne Somers maintains a positive attitude.

In a statement to TMZ issued by her rep, Suzanne says, "My nature is to look at the glass half full. I don't have a son or daughter in Iraq. I haven't lost a loved one. We will rebuild, and I truly believe we will learn something great from this experience."

Suzanne and her husband were not in Malibu during the blaze.

46. kelly,

Was Haiti a threat? how about Boznia? Serbia? You can stop with the illegal war crap, the U.N. AND Congress voted for it, it was perfectly legal. Maybe YOU should go over and see for yourself....I did.

As for Ms. Summers, for a short little quote I would be inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt. I took it to mean that her family is safe, she only lost her house and it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Even parents who are proud of their childrens service in Iraq are going to worry, I know first hand. I'm sure my mother would trade a burning house for my safe return any day.

Unfortunately, when a Hollywood celebrity makes a comment that could be interpreted 2 ways people are going to assume she's making a snide remark because that's what most celebs would do.

47. I'm proud to have a family memmber serving in Iraq. Its not a source of shame for me.

I wish I could use these comments as an opportunity to not go see her movies, or buy products she endorses etc. I guess I've been boycotting her for years without knowing it seeing as she has no career anymore.

48. Oh come on... I have nothing against Suzanne Summers, but to take the opportunity to politicize something in regards to her house burning down... idiotic and manipulative to the extreme. However typical of democrats lately.

49. Hey guys,

She's Hollyweird. I would bet she meant her remark about the troops in Iraq to be derrogatory. Celebs can't help themselves. They live in a cacoon.

50. Who is Suzanne Somers??????????????????

Posted at 2:23PM on Jan 9th 2007 by My .02

51. Since 4 members of my family are serving in the military and have afforded her siliconed frozen face to say all the stupid things she can think of while on withdrawal from her drug addicted frenzy, I still think she is a loser and couldn't give a fig about anyone in the US military. Just to think, I was about to go out and by her latest product that she has been whoring herself for money, despite it being discredited by anyone with a medical degree and in fact, shown to be harmful to rodents. Arson is an ugly thing because the true victim is the firefighter. I just can't muster up sympathy for a ditzy blonde bimbo who has contributed to the distruction of the California coastline by building a house where a beach should be. I hope all the firefighters and pets are safe, airhead blondes are disposable.

52. she was a bitch when she nearly destroyed Three's Company for her own selfish ends.

and with the comment on Iraq she is still one.

not having someone fighting to defend the people of the US from terrorists is a good thing?

you pathetic, ignorant, self abosrbed fool.

you do you think gives you the righg to shoot off your mouth?

i'll give you a hint, they wear uniforms.

53. Well I DO have a kid in Iraq. For his 2nd tour. A Marine, a son that I'm very proud of. My brother and I are V/N vets, my father & stepfather, WWII vets, my grandfather, WWI vet, his dad, a War Between the States vet. We never shirked our duty to our country, whichever one we believed in. Divirsity has made us great, you see, and chicken crap like you has kept us glued together, I guess.
You've got the money to rebuild, and the things you lost in your house were just that. . . things. Your life history has been material, where us common folk's lives have been magical, and full of wonder. Our houses are full of family treasures, and having one burn down in a fire or swept away in a flood is tragic.
Some day, when St. Peter questions you, you'll understand that. I think he'll be kind to you and yours. You may have to sit on the bench outside the Gates for a few years, watching regular folks go on in, but you'll get your chance in the end, I believe. You seem to be one of the better Hollywood types.
I'm sorry for your loss, and those of your neighbors.

54. To Our Heroes (#7),

Right on.

55. Well Suzanne...many people DO have loved ones in Iraq and I hope that little remark was meant sincerely and not as snide as I have taken it. You should be so lucky to have the ability to rebuild your home and move on with your plastic life. Some of us will go on MINUTE BY MINUTE living with the fear of our loved one stationed in Iraq .

56. Kelly, Rachel, you must be new at this. Finish your homework or you won't get to watch more tv tonight.

Somers is just another Malibu millionaire nitwit, taking a cheap shot at the President and the military. No surprise whatsoever that her kids are not in Iraq. Why would the kids of Hollywood think that serving in the military is a good thing?

Get it?

Posted at 2:31PM on Jan 9th 2007 by Hermy

57. does she have any children?

Posted at 2:30PM on Jan 9th 2007 by jc

58. You Suzanne lovers are completely missing the point. She used her house burning down as an excuse to throw a political jab. It sounds sincere, but then I remembered that the US has an all volunteer ARMY, and these kids are not being taken by the government to fight. This is not the 1960's, and the people actually fighting in Iraq would rather have someone say how proud we are of them, not how sorry we feel for their mothers.

59. This old Hollywood sl*t sells cheap garbage to naive old women on QVC. She should be in jail for fraud for selling her crap.

Posted at 2:31PM on Jan 9th 2007 by Franc

60. Why is everyone picking on her looks? She's being a sympathetic, caring person and stating that her loss is not much of a loss at all. She understands that she has money, that she can easily move on. A controversy brews from everything, doesn't it???
