Suzanne: At Least I Don't Have a Kid in Iraq

In the wake of a devastating fire that destroyed her Malibu home, Suzanne Somers maintains a positive attitude.

In a statement to TMZ issued by her rep, Suzanne says, "My nature is to look at the glass half full. I don't have a son or daughter in Iraq. I haven't lost a loved one. We will rebuild, and I truly believe we will learn something great from this experience."

Suzanne and her husband were not in Malibu during the blaze.

91. Suse can say whatever she wants including comments about the war. Echoing a prvius comment, the purpose of the so-called war is to spread freedom, which includes freedom of speech. Suze didn't send the men/women to Iraq. And, yes, many americans are happy their loved ones are not over there. It doesn't diminish their concern or support. I don't have any family/friends over there, but I do support them, and... Yes I'm glad I don't have relatives serving in the military.

if you're not financially and emotionally supporting the troops, through care packages and letters, your unncessary list of the deceased soldiers is pointless. Put up or shut up. Your verbal support without true commitment fails to earn you brownie points.

92. Ignorance never ceases to amaze me. There is a saying that it is better to remain silent and let people think you are stupid than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.....and I am not referring to Susan Somers, but to all of you bashing her. Her comments are meant to convey that losing a house is nothing compared to the lives lost in battle.

94. I think we all know what she is saying.... She is a liberal, Hollywood fanatic living in her own sad world. She is joining the hoards of other "stars" that have a golden life b/c they are moral less and will do anything to achieve success (in their minds). They continue to be unappreciative for what this great nation and our forefathers died for which gave them the opportunity that they have so greedily taken advantage of. They can all lay back, hide like cowards, and lob potshots as our brave young men and women continue to sacrifice their lives to keep us safe according to the direction of the leader that we elected. This is no surprise and typical. I feel sorry for those who share this sentiment, but am glad they can voice it because more will die for them to speak their mind as long and we are AMERICANS…

96. Kelly---Bush did the right thing. We needed to get democracy in that region....we cannot give up on it....our lives...of our children depend on it. If you would relax and look at the big picture and open your mind, you will see in years to come Bush will be put down as a Great Leader for taking on Iraq. But only time will be able to let most of you people see and understand.
Some get it.....some don't.

97. SHE NOT INSULTING ANYONE! RE-READ IT IF YOU HAVE TO.

Sorry but some of you with loved ones in Iraq (which I highly doubt in some cases) can't read. Please for goodness sakes she was trying to show how bad our situation is compare to what she went through. Her dilemma pales in comparison. She's on our side!!!! I agree with Max, call them and really listen to what they're going through for a change. I don't think some of you have a clue. Or you family members aren't in the thick of things like mine.

99. Well, I DO have a son in Iraq and I wish to hell he wasn't there. I am sick to death of the sunshine patriots that roost around forums like this, blathering about "patriotism" and "sacrifice" and all of the other nonsense spouted by the right, while they have NOTHING at risk in Iraq or Afghanistan or elsewhere. Cowards! Jerks! Feeeloading swine! Just shut up. The Bush Whitehouse LIED TO US about Iraq, outright lied about their stupid war on terrorism, and continues to lie about the returning veterans from Iraq. How many of you rlize that more than 30% of the soldiers returning from Iraq have at least a 50% diability? That more than 60,000 young men have a 100% PHYSCIAL diability due to woundes suffered and that the VA defines that as being the complete loss of two or more limbs or a head injury rendering the young man incapable of living alone. This is FOREVER! Imagine the lives wrecked, the families destroyed by our madman President and his insane adventure. Bush, the Pentagon, the Congress, and the Democaratic COngress, too, treat our soldiers like so much toilet paper. SOmething to be used and simply discarded with very little thought or concern. You have no idea of the nightmares that wake me and my wife up, no idea of the worries suffered by my family, and you in no way share our burden nor our unwilling sacrifice. So, either drown the Whitehouse and Congress in letters demanding that we bring our troops home right now, or just shut up.

101. Well at first I thought this was jsut another negitive comment form a Hollywood Cleb throwing stones at our men and women in war. Then I had to put some thought to it and as a father who has a son in the Army currently in Germeny I had to be honest I am glad my son is not in Iraq also. He is scheduled to deploy to Iraq later this year and I will worry about that then but for now I will breath easy. So I think Mz Summers was just trying to say that there are things more important than a house and some matieral posistions.

102. While Suzzane Somers night have meant to make a "nice" statement about how things could be worse, she came off sounding like she stuck her foot in her mouth. Hmmm Kinda like John Kerry and his "If you don't get an education you'll end up in Iraq" "Joke" Well Ms Somers, some Americans are PROUD to have their child serve this country. While I am sorry your multi Million dollar house burned to the ground, I believe you need to thank those who serve this country and allow you to live in a country where you can be as wealthy as you are.

103. It struck me as a snide comment, a political stab, and in poor taste. I don't know why she would make this analogy.

104. Sounds like she needs to sell a helluva lot more thighmasters to rebuild her home.

MAybe she should go to Iraq and sell them and have John Kerry as her sales rep

105. The "leader" to this column seems to have meant to incite a riot. Unfortunately, it seems to be working. After reading the article, Ms Summers was simply offering that the fire was not a life crisis -- she can rebuild. This article seems to have taken a public figure's reassuring response to well-intended others out of context and molded it into a political statement. I guess the author sees making rent more important than reporting the truth.
