Start Spreading the News -- Ronaldo to NY?

In the wake of Beckham joining the Los Angeles Galaxy, sources inside Major League Soccer tell TMZ that, among other players, Brazilian soccer superstar Ronaldo could be the next player joining Becks in America.

As TMZ reported yesterday, Beckham is moving to Los Angeles to play for the L.A. Galaxy -- for a record breaking salary of a $50 million a year for five years (for a total of $250 million). Sources say that New York could be the site of Ronaldo's landing, adding that NY's infatuation with celebrity athletes makes it the perfect place for him.

As for Ronaldo himself, sports insiders say his impact, while big, will be nowhere near that of Beckham's. Ronaldo, while talented on the field, does not have the same charm and charisma that Becks does. Charm and charisma... yeah that's it.

16. I am sooo glad to see coverage of Becks and Ronaldo coming to the US. The US is the only country in the world that doesn't quite get professional soccer/football and it's such a shame because it's an exciting sport. These guys train from the time they are little kids to play soccer/football... it's a LIFELONG commitment and they go through years and years of training to get to where they are. I know a huge part of Beckham coming to the US is because he has always said that he appreciates the way Americans remain loyal to their teams... which is kind of refreshing to be put into that light when the rest of the world hates us and everything we stand for.

I'm hoping that his soccer academy in LA will flourish now that he'll be living here... wouldn't it be fantastic for the US team to go to the World Cup and actually WIN, thanks to Becks providing a place for American kids to train?? I know I'd be damn proud to see my country show up at the World Cup and actually be feared (instead of ridiculed) by the rest of the world.

THERE IS ROOM FOR SOCCER/FOOTBALL IN THE US... especially since baseball and football are riddled with drugs and steroid abuse. People are getting tired of that... and we want something to be proud of.

17. LOL Richard! Even R.C. is temped to touch that fine looking butt! Are they wearing bikini briefs?

18. Miss Penny Lane...we don't need to see your comments three times. The football team is NOT paying Becks $250,000,000 just as a player..he gets most of the money from the advertisers and is worth every cent to them. If you're not happy with it then don't buy the products. If you owned a company and Beckham was earning big bucks for you through his adverts then you would certainly continue to pay him well. This is what capitalism is. Who are you to dictate who should earn what? It's not your money. Should movie stars get millions, should TV stars get $80,000 per episode, should Gates be a billionaire? If you're worth the money then you will be paid well. If your not happy with your salary best look for a new job and stop bitching. If you make a good wage then donate it to charity which will ease your conscience.

19. Does anyone in this country watch soccer anyway? I've never heard of this guy and could care less about him. Oh yeah, already tired of hearing about "Posh and Becks" coming here, could care less. Come on TMZ, give the stuff I want to hear about, not insanely rich and disgusting soccer players and their wives.

20. Totally f*ckable. What, are they playing soccer or sex? That's sick, really.

And those b*stards dpn't deserve that kind of cash anyway. What did they ever do to get that kind of money? They didn't cure AIDS, and they certainly didn't end world hunger. Ah, Beckham might be cute, but that's it. Screw them.

22. No one gives a tinker's damn about soccer in the good ol USA. We like REAL sports like the NFL and NBA.

24. You are all idiots. You sound like you should be in George Bush's Cabinet. Don't you understand that Beckham is leading others coming back, Brian McBride to Columbus, Reyna to NY Red Bulls. LA averages 20,500 fans a game. Football is a neat sport, but it is not an american past time. It is a terrible game, you have to be fat and tall, or freak to play. and you don't play very much, push someone for 5 seconds, rest your fat ass for a minute. Baseball is an american past time, but with steriods, and slow ass games, it is not near what it was in the 50's 60's. Soccer is the new American sport, regardless of what you want to think. It's proven in studies that it is the fastest growing sport, and the MLS is about to make major steps now that the league is finally financially stable.

I hope you are just uneducated, and not really this unintelligent.

25. I bet if Becks want to avoid paparazzi they stay out of L.A... For sure he's looking for media attention for his own gain, and is this guy kidding for asking Tom cruise how to avoid papparazzi, when Mr Alien has been having a lot of it in 2006!???

My tummy creeps at the way Ronaldo is holding beckam's ass in the photo??

26. David Beckham is overrated..his best days are behind him and have been for a long time. Bring Materazzi and Buffon over here if you want to see real futbol. FORZA ITALIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!! ( Anyone see Beckham BARFING on the field during the Copa Mundial?) LMAO..maybe he can puke in LA as well.

27. It would be great to see Ronaldo playing football in the MLS. American football now has a strong grass roots se up, something it didn't have during the NASL Pele years, but the USA still needs to produce better footballers, not just athlete who can run.

As for BORING, has anyone ever watched Gridiron or Baseball. God Damn, those sports are hard work.

28. I want to know if #4 lives in this country. If you do you have 24 hours to move to Europe. Europeans have always been jealous of the fortunes of many Americans. You are a loooooser.

29. How could anyone have "less impact" than David Beckham? Sorry, but Beckham will have NO, 0, ZERO impact on Soccer in the US. No one cares. He has an ugly E.T./Skeletor looking wife who was semi-popular 10 years ago as a member of a short-live "girl group" and he is an over-the-hill player.

They might have some "impact" on red carpet events, TMZ, ugle celebrities, etc. but sports fans have no interest in these idiots.

BUT sports fans MAY care about Ronaldo, you know since he can actually PLAY soccer. We dont give a F- about if he has an ugly wife or if he models or shaves his legs or uses moisturizer, etc. Neither will have much impact but give credit where it's due.

30. Agree with #6, Disagree with #17
Don't get me wrong, Ronaldo is the man and a legend!
But, he's lost most of his game ... similar to Randy Johnson.
If you want to bring another superstar to the US (who would be worth the HUGE $$$), bring Rooney -- or better yet, Ronaldinho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
