Isaiah the Coward

Isaiah WashingtonIsaiah Washington apologized to everyone in the world for using the word "faggot," but he never made it clear if he had, in fact, hurled the insult at T.R. Knight during a physical fight with "Grey's" co-star Patrick Dempsey.

You'll recall that last October, Washington allegedly exploded at Dempsey and said, "I'm not your little faggot like T.R."

At the Globes on Monday, Isaiah finally responded and said he never used the word "faggot." That comment drew lots of criticism and now Washington has said he's sorry. What he actually said was, "By repeating the word Monday night, I marred what should have been a perfect night for everyone..." So, he's sorry he said it Monday night. But what about that incident on the set? Is he saying he lied when he claimed he never used the word "faggot" on the set? And, by the way, what does Washington mean when he says "By repeating the word" faggot? Is he acknowledging the lie when he said he never used the word?

All morning, TMZ called multiple people from Washington's camp, and from "Grey's" to get some clarity. Radio silence. No one will comment.

The one thing we can say... what a wuss for not taking his medicine like a man.

Here's the whole thing, this whole situation is taking on heavy racial overtones. If Isaiah is fired and there is the slightest perception that it's less about a indirect gay slur, and more about attacking the stereo type of the so-called angry black man, this entire situation, if turned into a high tech lynching, which it seems to be turning into, could result in the show losing large amounts of its minority audience. Are TV Guide and Perez Hilton more invested in seeing a black man fired, than they are interested in ironing out the matter, amicably??? Is this just a sideways racial attack...guised by covert racism???

Since the beginning of this situation, the whole focus has been on the angry violent black man, Isaiah, fighting with an innocent loving white man, Patrick Dempsey. But as soon as it was disclosed that Patrick Dempsey was accused of beating his ex- wife, well, he became less of a focus of the story. Now, it's all about T.R. and Isaiah...and from what i gather from this so far, it's a "He Said...He Said: matter. No one has come forth to clarify who is telling the truth when it comes to the original incident. T.R. says he was called a faggot...and Isaiah denies he said it. So who is telling the truth here??? Yes, we know Isaiah spoke the word at the Golden Globes...but T.R. spoke the word on Ellen. Both are guilty of using it publicly. As to whether it was used behing closed doors on the set of the show, well, nobody who witnessed the fight is talking...and patrick Dempsey has said nothing either, for or against anybody here!!!

That said, I would simply suggest that the producers and the network quietly instruct Isaiah not to give anymore interviews for the time being. And for that matter, I would suggest the same for T.R. There was no real need for T.R. to address the situation on Ellen, since it was already being handled behind the scenes. The fanning of the flames with the Ellen interview, was as much, if not more of a downer than, Isaiah's Golden Globe press room appearance. Both of these two, and Katherine, need to shut up about it, or nobody will have a job if the ratings begin to tank!!!

Now, some have pointed out that there was a ratings drop of the show last night...with CSI gaining in the ratings among men. Well, they just introduced a macho film actor into the cast of CSI and heavily advertised that fact...and he's not just any film actor, but one associated with action films. So that's probably the reason for CSI gaining in the ratings last night.

In regard to T.R. really being gay...I think they should have his character come out of the closet on the show, and deal with it in the story line, including Isaiah's reaction. I think this will be a cathartic moment for the show, and will help the healing...and bring in viewers. I would also counter CSI by bringing in a big macho film actor to star on Grey's Anatomy, in order to counter their move!!!

Good Lord, is Isaiah Washington on drugs? First he invokes the name of his God to validate his assertion that he never called Knight the f-word, now he admits he did it.

Too little too late & too many lies. And in case you idiots start making this about race or religion, let me say that I'm undeniably black & proud, and on most days I try to behave like a Christian. This isn't about race or religion: this is about hatred, stupidity, and failure to accept responsibility.

What ticks me off the most is Washington is so busy playing Spin Doctor that he doesn't even seem to get that he HURT Knight!!!

Just like Michael Richards: stick a fork in Isaiah Washington, because HE'S DONE!

For all you "So What?" and "Get Over It!" commenters out there.

Here's hoping that you and all the people you love or care for walk into work tomorrow and face similar harrassment and disrepect to what T.R. experienced in his workplace.

Say what you want - If you were getting called, or publically referred to,
similar names in the workplace, you'd sh*t your pants with indignation and throw a fit and you know it.

Seems to me your attitudes are pretty much about the nature of this particular slur.

It's pretty easy to tell the thinking people from the morons and bigots in these comments.

JASMYME CANNICK: The Hypocrisy of White Gay America
Gays Can Protest Isaiah Washington, but Remain Silent on White Gay Man Who Performs Blackface Minstrel Show
After 24 hours of protest by white gay America towards “Grey’s Anatomy” star Isaiah Washington after accusations from fellow gay co-actor T.R. Knight of Washington referring to him as the f-word and Washington’s mistake of using the word at a press conference at the Golden Globes, the gays have won.

In an editorial I penned yesterday (scroll down below), I referred to the protest as something that reminds of 1876 in the Deep South, when a white woman would scream rape at the hands of a Black man, and that Black man was then dragged out of his home into the middle of the night and beaten and lynched by an angry white mob without any proof or evidence, just the word of his accuser. It was another case of guilty until proven innocent.

At the end of the day, the issue for me and many Black Americans was the fact that in the beginning this was the issue of one man’s word against another and without any further evidence, all of white gay America pounced on Washington defending their beloved Knight.

But for the most part that’s the way it always goes.

And in the end, as I said yesterday, Isaiah was wrong for using the word at the Golden Globes, he could have said “the f-word” instead of repeating the entire slur again. However, it really didn’t matter because the gay mafia’s wheels were in motion and they smelled meat, dark meat. And whether Isaiah apologized or not, it was all down hill for him anyway. Once you’re labeled as a homophobe in the entertainment industry it’s pretty hard to shake that wrap.

But something about this whole thing reeks of white privilege, gay power, and what I commonly refer to as the hypocrisy of white gay America.

The gay mafia didn’t have a problem defending their pretty boy Knight whose career will probably sky rocket now that’s he’s out of the closet. However, at the same time, there’s been no protest launched against Charles Knipp, a white gay man who dresses up in blackface as a character he calls Shirley Q. Liquor and describes as an “inarticulate Black women on welfare with 19 kids.”

Set to perform during Black History Month in West Hollywood, this self-described comic has built an entire career of promoting the most negative and vicious stereotypes of Blacks, in particular Black women. In broken English, Liquor makes comments like “axe your mamma how she durrin” and misuses words like “ignunt.” Knipp mocks the Black American holiday Kwanzaa and makes fun of stereotypical Black names in a music video entitled, “Who Is My Baby’s Daddy?,” even going as far as to use sexually transmitted diseases as names of Black children. Knipp’s characterizations of Black woman played out on stage in city after city are ones that portray Black women as being on welfare, living in the projects, illiterate, sexually promiscuous mothers who don’t know who their children’s fathers are, alcoholics, and drug addicts.

But let’s look a bit closer at the hypocrisy I spoke of.

I already mentioned that the gay mafia has said nothing about Knipp, but do you want to know why? Because they’re the ones responsible for selling out his shows as he tours around the country.

Knipp doesn’t bring his shows to the people he’s degrading. No, he books his shows in white gay Mecca’s like L.A.’s West Hollywood, New York’s Chelsea District, San Francisco’s Castro District.

So let me get this straight, no pun intended, it’s not ok for the Black guy to use the f-word, but it is ok for the white gay guy to dress up in blackface and perform parodies that mock Blacks.

I once made the comment that if Knipp were making fun of Jews his act would have been canceled a long time ago, but I think I’ll change that to include gays as well given the recent incident with Washington.

I learned a long time ago that as a Black lesbian, my place was with Blacks. The same racism and classism issues that exists between Blacks and whites in general, applies to the gay community as well. I may have issues with the occasional homophobic Black pastor or rapper, but at the end of the day, we as Blacks know what discrimination and racism is because we’ve dealt with it all of our lives. So when it happens, we can call it out. Unfortunately, when it comes to the gay community, if it’s not affecting their rosy white lives, then they couldn’t give a damn. But hey, isn’t that what white privilege is all about?

I don't know if my last comments got posted? So here I go again. I am sorry you gays have had it rough. I didn't know you gays were taken from your homeland and sold into slavery. I didn't know you gays were brought over on ships. I didn't know gays were lynched by the KKK and other racists groups. I didn't know gays had to drink from gay only water fountains or use gay's only restrooms. I didn't know gays had to start the civil right's movement. I didn't know gays were denied jobs because of their race. I didn't know you gays had it so rough back in the 1800's and 1900's. I didn't know the KKK burned crosses because they hated gays. I didn't know gays were not allowed to vote. I guess Martin Luther King was shot because he must have been gay. Man I guess you gays do have a hard time in life. On behalf of all African-Americans, I apologize for his gay remark. That was insensative on his behalf. You can hide the fact that you are gay, but you sure can't hide the fact that you are black.

Number 83, you're right! Matthew Shepard wasn't murdered. There isn't a ridiculously high suicide rate for gay teens. Gay people aren't disowned by their parents every day simply for being gay. In fact, gay people are allowed to marry each other. Gay people have the exact same rights as straight people, and our President has never targeted gays and tried to get discrimination against them into the constitution.

It's possible for two different groups to both be oppressed and discriminated against, albeit in different ways.

Let's be honest . If they kick him off the show, how many black viewers will leave as well? Us blacks have the highest percentage of people who watch television. I hope they kick him off the show , then you will see how fast they drop in the ratings, then katherine heigl and the rest of the crew will be out of jobs and let's see if they find something else. They will all end up like the cast of seinfeldm, friends and will and grace all struggling to find new gigs. Come to think of it you never heard much about any of them before they got on this hit show. It all boils down to race. Blacks are the most hated group of people in this country. The incident with janet jackson was way overblown. If that had of been britney spears, people would not have cared at all. It's ok to show your beaten up crotch, just not some breasts. Another thing, let's just get this out there. If o.j. simpson had been accused of killing two blacks instead of whites, the whites would not have believed he did it and they would have accepted him back with open arms after he was found innocent. Racism still exists in this country. It is just more undercover and it is not the politically correct thing to be open about it. The media has blown this whole matter out of porportion. If he had been white, they would try to keep it on the down low and sweep it under the rug. To tell you the truth, I don't even watch the show. It is the most overrated show on tv and they always over act all of the scenes. I couldn't make it through a show. If he is gay, he should have came out sooner. Who is being fake?Don't be afraid to show who you are if you are not ashamed. Just get over it and move on. Stop being such a drama queen.

All of these comparisons are ridiculous. I am a married woman, and my best friend since we were 10 years old is a gay man, (was my maid of honor at my wedding - LOL) who's actually in the Army, serving his country in Iraq right now as we speak. Nobody knows he is gay because he chooses not to broadcast it. It's the same thing with TR. He said he was not advertising his homosexuality - and he did not want to come out of the closet, but Washington 'outed' him deliberately. Why? Maybe jealousy because TR's part on the show was getting expanded. Who knows.

The fact remains that if this was a regular corporate job, the first time Washington called his office-mate a faggot, he would be severely reprimanded. When he said it again like he did Monday night, he would have been fired. It shouldn't matter that they aren't in an office environment. Washington should be fired.

Number 85. Please tell me you are not trying to compare the black struggle with what gays are going through? Gays were not murdered by the thousands.Us blacks had help getting killed. When you committ suicide, that is a choice no matter if your gay, straight , black or white. About parents disowning their gay kids. Wow, what a comparison. So once again, gays were taken from their homeland and put into slavery? We do not have the same struggle and there is no comparison. I hate when someone gay tries to use those lines such as you did. Why don't you go back into your history lessons to find out how past presidents and our present one has taken away some things that benefited blacks. If it had not been for blacks you would not have the freedom to come out of the closet and organize marches to bring attention to your cause. So don't tell me you guys are equally going through the same struggles. I guess the cops are doing gay profiling now across the country.
