"Grey's" Creator: Isaiah Insulted Everyone

Isaiah WashingtonMoments after reports circulated that Isaiah Washington went into therapy, "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shondra Rhimes weighed in with a statement which sounds like she's hedging her bets on her embattled star:

"I speak for all the executive producers here at 'Grey's Anatomy' when I say that Isaiah Washington's use of such a disturbing word was a shocking and dismaying event that insulted not only gays and lesbians everywhere but anyone who has ever struggled for respect in a world that is not always accepting of difference ... We applaud and encourage Isaiah's realization that he needs help and his subsequent choice to seek immediate treatment for his behavioral issues."

What Rhimes didn't mention, was whether Washington would be fired or not. TMZ spies in high places in the production of "Grey's Anatomy" say Washington's fate will be determined by ratings, not moral outrage -- namely, whether his presence helps or hurts the show.

181. i say fire his butt also. he never did anything for me anyway. he's my least liked character on the show. if one of his cohorts had called him the "N" word (which, by the way, i despise that word) you bet they would have been fired, or even sued!!!! paybacks, my friend!!

182. I heard that this is not the first time he has done something like this (and on those grounds, I don't think it should be excused)...It's such a shame that one bad egg can pull down a great show like Grey's Anatomy. I haven't missed an episode, but now when I see him on, I find myself walking out of the room. I think he should be replaced by a more deserving actor.

183. I agree with John Mayer - they should rewrite the storyline and make him realize his latent homosexuality - play the "faggot" and see how it feels to be called one -

184. I wonder how one rehabilitates hate, anger and stupidity. The scientific community reveals that this type of phobia is due to Mr. Washington's deep insecurities and personal sexuality issues. Once again, we're not being allowed to be angry on account the poor fool has issues from which he cannot help himself. He needs a professional counselor and our pity while he overcomes his social intolerance and ignorance. A simple acknowledgement of what he actually said and apology would do just fine, but instead I'll continue to "boo and hissss' during his brief and albeit boring scenes on my favorite show, Greys Anatomy.

185. He is wrong for his comments ..very wrong.
That being said....Stating that blacks as a group
get to say what they want.....I repeat ...blacks get to say
what they want....is ignorant..

186. Funny eh the way people take offence to the word faggot and not to brokeback which in effect is the same, and yet brokeback seems to be the in word now and everyone laughs it off even gays.

here in england by the way a faggot is also a ball of meat that you put in spaghetti bolognese & a couple of other meals. i have also on many ocassions heard heteros calling each other faggots in jest and no one cries about it.

the most idiotic thing here is that IW was having a row with patrick dempsey.
we don't know the context of the row. when tr was asked on ellens show what was said he did not expand more only to say that he was called a faggot.
why didn't he just say in what context it was used? maybe because that would make him look less of a victim perhaps? on that show infact he was laughing and joking he didnt seem that cut up about it.

to get to the real truth patrick dempsey and issiah washington should say what the row was about and why the faggot word came into play. as i understand it tr was not even present so how come he claims to know the whole spectrum of the situation?

people if you want to judge you have to look from every angle before you try to ruin a man's career!

188. So what if Shonda was laughing right after he said it in the video? In front of an audience is not an appropriate place to berate one of her actors. Keep in mind I think Isaiah Washington is a tool, I don't really like him. I would probably like the show better if he wasn't on it, but I won't give up all the wonderful, profound moments Grey's gives t.v. just because of a stupid remark one of the actors made, wrong though it was.

189. I don't know why some people think you can replace one black actor with another, in my opinion, saying you can replace ANY actor, of ANY color with another actor of the same color is racist.

Secondly, if you don't like Grey's Anatomy, don't watch, no one is forcing you. Believe it or not, you should watch tv for the character the actor PORTRAYS.

I am sure Hollywood is filled with racist, homophobic actors, producers, etc. If we knew the truth about them, NO ONE would probably want to support them by watching their movies, television shows, etc. They're all in the closet.

I don't know why the public wastes it's time persecuting celebrities, atheletes anyway, they aren't public servants. If you want the public to have a good example, you be that good example. I am so sick of the media and the public making celebrities into these idols to be worshipped.

190. Fire the idiot..... he has a super inflated ego. When the show goes off the air at some point in time, he will be a " has been." Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame. Maybe he should enroll in rehab for morons................

191. I was a viewer of Grey's Anatomy since it started on ABC, I purchased two seasons of the show on dvd... But after hearing how Disney/ABC and the show's producers handled the problem... I will not be watching the show or purchasing the dvd's either. I encourage all, gay or straight to follow... why would anyone want to support a bigot like Isaiah Washington. It is a great show, but I can not support such actions.

192. You are all a bunch of hypocrite white pieces of shit.. Who the hell are you to insinuate that blacks just claim racial slurs. Hello.. this country was founded by using racial slurs...

Isiah may said this openly... but is he any worse than you white people who say and do all sorts of things to make yourselves feel better by claiming you are better than blacks

Please people get a grip.

193. It's my belief that any comment about sexual slurs and/or touching, racial, religion, ethics or any one's sexual persuasion is wrong. At least that was taught to me at College about the work place! So yes he needs behavioral training and yes they do have classes for that reason!

194. Isiah Washington is an excellent actor!!! No his choice of words were not right, however he should not loose his job because the gay community is insulted by the word "faggot" . As an heterosexual who knows the difference between, faggot, punk, dyke whatever they say to insult each other. Before you even think of it, you can't compair that word to nigger. The word nigger means stupid and have and still oppress a people with its negative spirit. However, he was totally out of order at the Golden Globe awards. But he had a fight with one of his coworkers and he called him a faggot. What happens on the set should stay on the set. Leave the Isaiah alone. I 'm sure he's sorry for the comments and have issues with gay people. He can, if its not right within his spirit he don't have to agree with what our society throws at us. I'm sure he will deal with, but he don't have to like it. Greys have a great cast and sometimes coworkers fight and say things they shouldn't say. Let them handle. I'm just so tired of the gay community complaining and whinning like a bunch of bitches if someone say any thing about them. If one of his cast member would have called Isiah a nigger I'm sure no one would have gone to rehab, and the media wouldn't have flaired up all this drama. The success of Grey is all the people Shondra and her casting people selected. Just give him a break and let the cast heal and resolve this issue within. I love the chemistry George and Dr. Burke have, I'm sure this great story line will continue.

195. Get over it already? Isn't that the mantra of most 'people' when things concern other groups. So he used the word, big deal. Its no more than what they call themselves. If you don't want to be picked on or made fun of, don't tell anybody who will listen who the hell is in your bedroom! He's a great actor, a wonderful addition to the show and all of you thought so until he said one word. One word does not change anything. It doesn't take anything away from the show or his acting abilities. If you don't want people to know you are gay, don't throw it out there. People have strong feelings about this, but I doubt anybody would be so bent out of shape about this if say Mel Gibson or Michael Richards had said it or dare I say any white actor!
