Racial Ray?

Rachel and OprahPerky talk show host Rachael Ray made disparaging racial remarks about the woman who gave Ray her big shot at daytime TV -- none other than Oprah Winfrey, according to TMZ sources. It's a shocking account of a dinner that occurred during the period that the show was being sold.

Rewind to December 3, 2005. Ray was at the Century City Shopping Mall in Los Angeles for a book signing. Reps from King World, the production company that was syndicating the show, were shooting the event for its sales presentation.

"Why is she wearing slave drag? She obviously has problems being black."

At around 7:00 PM, Ray, along with seven others, went to Houston's Restaurant in the mall. They sat in a booth in the far right rear of the restaurant. Ray ordered fish and complained to the table it was dry. She Oprah's Portrait from was also drinking red wine and lots of it -- one source says a minimum of four big glasses.

We're told Ray became "extremely loud and aggressive," and began dissing Oprah. Sources say she told the group about a portrait of Oprah that sits in the lobby of Harpo Productions in Chicago. It's from the movie "Beloved" and shows Winfrey's back, enhanced with scars. She's also wearing a skirt from the slavery era.

Back at the table, sources say Ray launched into attack mode: "Why is she wearing slave drag? She obviously has problems being black."

But Oprah wasn't Ray's only target. Sources say she told the group how much she liked Jennifer Aniston and then called Brad Pitt a "pussy boy." But her harshest comments were reserved for Angelina Jolie, calling her "a skanky, backdoor c**t."

TMZ contacted the Director of Publicity for Rachael Ray, Charlie Dougiello, who said, "Rachael did attend the dinner referenced and enjoyed wine and good conversation with friends and colleagues. She denies making any of the comments referenced. In fact, there are several words that are attributed to Rachael that she has never uttered in her life."

Dougiello added, "Neither in public nor in private has Rachael made a disparaging or cruel remark about her friend and mentor, Oprah, nor a celebrity couple she has never even met."

Oprah Gallery: Click to launchDougiello also said, "There were several associates of Rachael's at that table who, unprompted, agreed that Rachael never made any of the comments she is being accused of making... and it seems very convenient that these accusations are being levied at a time when Rachael's success has focused the public eye on her."

856. Some one call 911 and put out this kitchens fire. This was not started by Rachel Ray but instead by a jealous rivary who's time on tv was over done just like her bad cooking habits. She was replaced by Rachel Ray and started all the rumors. It's obvious her muffins all dried up and she needs to blame the younger host for her lost. What better way to do it behind a fake name on some keyboard. Too bad you dont have your own show to voice your opinion, once again in your world it sucks not to be Rachel Ray. Leave her alone and let the rest of us enjoy the wholesome liveliness she has brought to television. Just my humble oppinion.

857. No proof she made those comments. But, even if she did, what part of Rachael's alleged remarks are untrue or inaccurate?

861. I just don't believe these panzy anonymous "sources" attacking Rachael Ray. I've seen Ray's syndicated show enough to be amazed at how many African-American people she has regularly on her show. They range from celebrities to various experts in certain fields. And, Ray treats them all as she treats her white guests. Though, even if she did make stupid comments about Oprah after heavy drinking, people can say insensitive things like that while drinking without throwing down the "race card," as so many seen to be attacking Ray for doing to Oprah. As far as Angelia Jolie, she is a wanton homewrecker, and Brad Pitt is a fool for following her.

862. Come to think of it, if the so-called, "drunken tirade" by Rachael Ray had ever taken place before the RR deal was sealed that is claimed by the pansy anonymous source, then Oprah would surely have gotten wind of it and never had Ray host that neighborhood dinner party for one of Oprah's employees, which aired on "Oprah" in '06. So, take that you ******* anonymous source!

865. If Rachel Ray's alleged comments were true, I don't believe that she meant them in a racist manner. I believe she truly didn't understand the reason for the picture - or may not have known it was a slave character Oprah played in a movie. From the tone of Rachel's comment, she seemed to have felt bothered by the picture - I am speculating here, but she might have felt that Oprah was dwelling on something that may bring a certain level of guilt from people of he opposite race.
If that is the case, what she has to understand is that this is a reality in the experience of Oprah's family legacy and history. She came from a very humble background raised by her grandmother in a house with no running water, and pulled herself up with support from her grandmother into the success she has had today. She's not somehow sensationalizing slavery but acknowledging the road of her past. You can see this is a same account of maybe an Jewish-American, Chnese American etc, who talks of their great-grandfather who may have come here to the USA with nothing. Oprah is from a generation with experiences that even younger generations of Black people may not necessarily be able to grasp or relate to.

I believe the picture of Oprah is again, more-so about the acknowledgement of her past and ancestry she has sprung forth from; also, the photo is an artistic portrait. In the book "Beloved" you are given the impression of the Tree on Oprah's character brought about by scars from being flogged by a slavemaster, is a metaphor the wounds of slavery spreading out through the family tree - best understood and supported in full by reading Beloved. I really suggest this book to any and everyone to read and analyze. It is the story of a human being, a runaway slave who goes to controversially moral lengths to prevent the experience of slavery on her family. It's also a great human account of the remaining psychological experience of the black slave and surprising effects on relationships, that have echoed down generations to the Black community today. Very interesting and a great instrument to identify issues, improve them moving forward. Again-really a great book for any and everyone who wants a deeper understanding of healing the human spirit. From that standpoint, maybe RR would be able to understand why that picture hangs on Oprah's wall.

Also if RR's comments are true and her reaction was confused as to why the picture is there, it would have been a great time to honestly, and openly inquire of Oprah about it. It's the only way black and white people are going to understand where each of us is coming from. If asked in an authentic manner you'd be suprised what we can learn from just talking and opening up to each other.
I personally encourage asking authentic questions.

Also some of you have really slammed Oprah. She may or may not have the issues that you mentioned, but let's not forget - that women does a lot for people of all races-whether it's through a show, donations or encouragement. She has touched a lot of lives and that's saying a lot given all else that is going on in the world. She deserves that respect.

868. It sounds like Rachel just had too much to drink and badmouthed EVERYONE, not just African-Americans. Rachel does have to work on the self-control thing a bit....

869. Well, I'm sure our Rachael did Not say these things..... I think It was probably Martha Stewart doing anything she can to get ole' rach off of tv. A rumor like that could do some serious damage, and Martha knows it. No wonder she has seemed so happy lately. ;)

870. This story is totally made up. I was sitting at the table right next to Rachel in the corner. She had maybe 1-2 glasses of wine. She never raised her voice. She did say something about the fish being dry. It amazes me that readers hope and actually want stories like this to be true.
