Indy Car Legend Busted for DUI

TMZ has obtained the mugshot of race car driver Al Unser Jr., taken moments after he was busted for DUI and leaving the scene of a crash on a Nevada freeway.
Al Unser Jr.
According to law enforcement officials, the Indy 500 racer was arrested after he was identified as the driver of a car that sideswiped another on the Las Vegas Beltway early Thursday morning.

Unser's car was practically unscathed in the incident, but the other car crashed into a cement center median. No injuries were reported at the scene.

Unser, who won the Indy 500 in both 1992 and 1994, underwent treatment for alcohol abuse in 2002.

18. There should be a new category, "Driving While Under the Influence of Stupidity".
DUS. While there are many drunk drivers on the road, there are sure a lot of lost stupid fucks who'll think nothing of coming to a dead stop while they figure out what they are going to do next.....on a busy road a rush hour....or if they're lost, I guess I'm supposed to understand they are getting directions while they are driving so these simpletons need to stop and concentrate while they hold up an entire road. DUS! DUS! DUS!

20. I definitely do not agree with leaving the scene of an accident or driving while impaired. I know Little Al has battled with the bottle in the past and I was under the impression that was all behind him. Al, should you read this, please get yourself straightened out. I have always been a big fan of yours. Watching you finesse a car through traffic was always exciting to watch. Watching you win was even better. Hope to hear that you pull it all together. God Bless and count your blessings that you did not injure an innocent motorist. Take care of yourself!!

21. Those of us who know Al and the family and know what they have gone through ... and how Al was abused by his drunken dad and uncle for so many years ... Well, everyone is very upset ... Also many insiders are REALLY mad at Al Jr. for doing this AGAIN ...Burt he has a lifetime of 'monkey's on his back called "The Unser Family"...Race car drivers definitely have 'addictive personalities'. Their gateway 'drug', of course, is adrenaline. Add to the mix the kind of depression which Al Jr. has suffered from his whole life, and you have a person with some tough, tough problems to overcome. His first stint in rehab ended early; I think he left after only 5-6 days. Perhaps he'll take this chance to try again. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers. This guy is one of the greatest race car drivers (in many different forms of racing) of all time. It's not his fault he was raised by a bunch of drunken rednecks in an Albuquerque junkyard! Look at it this way: The family has probably made $100 million or more through racing and related activities --- and they STILL live in Albuquerque! What kind of mind-set (and torture for the kids) is that?!? Don't go easy on him at all, but --- Knowing the family and Jr ... Al is a nice guy with a lot of problems which no one addressed until recently. And he's DEFINITELY in a milieu which discourages introspection...One of the most macho, unforgiving and violent environments, in every way, any of you could possibly imagine ...

22. Many, many years ago I ran against the Unsers, Bobby and Al, in USAC mid-west events! They were gentlemen. I loved their Mother's cooking when she came to the races and were pleased to taste her cooking skills! If she were alive this Unser would have been skinned alive the first time he got into trouble! I have been sober for over 17 yrs (I stopped counting after my 15th AA birthday!) I am sorry for him and hope that he can get back into a program! Believe it or not but drinking to excess is a deadly SICKNESS. KEEP TRYING JUNIOR , YOU CAN DO IT! Others have!
