Brandy Unfairly Targeted, Civil Rights Group Claims

BrandyBlack civil rights leaders in Los Angeles claim the California Highway Patrol has made singer/actress Brandy "a political trophy."

The Los Angeles City Attorney is deciding whether to file misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charges against Brandy, whose Land Rover slammed into a Toyota on the 405 Freeway killing the driver.

Today, Najee Ali, leader of Project Islamic HOPE, said the CHP's recommendation to file charges against the singer "is unfairly targeting her for prosecution because of her celebrity." Ali told TMZ he is organizing an e-mail campaign in the African American community to put pressure on City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo to reject the case.

Delgadillo says "We will treat this case like every other case and treat it very seriously because someone died."

46. Would someone be so kind as to ask Najee Ali if he'd feel the same if one of his loved ones had been killed in that crash?

47. What gets me is that...oh, they're picking on Brandy because she's african american and a celebrity. Right, let's just forget the fact that she killed another person. A MOTHER, nonetheless. That child is going to have to grow up without their mom. Now, I'll admit, I am a fan of Brandy's. I always have been since she first came out. She's one of the few "nice" celebrities. She's not a partier, drinker, druggie, tramp type person. She's a decent human being. But that still doesn't mean she shouldn't be held accountable for her actions. She killed someone. Just because she's "BRANDY" should not change the facts.

49. Oh my Gosh!! Brandy was going over the speed limit. Her driving killed someone. Just because she is a famous black person does not she should get away with it. She is at fault and should pay the price just like everyone else

50. Of course they would pull the race card.....TYPICAL, it has nothing to do with the fact that she admitted the accident was self admittedly her fault etc......

51. FIRST THEY PULL THE CELEBRITY CARD, NOW THEY ARE PULLING THE RACE CARD. MY OPINION ON THIS ONE, PROSECUTE HER ONLY IF YOU REALLY FEEL SHE WAS AT FAULT. TREAT HER LIKE ANY OTHER PERSON. I TRULY DONT BELIEVE SHE SHOULD BE PUT IN JAIL FOR THIS, BECAUSE IT WAS AN ACCIDENT, BUT THERE SHOULD BE SOME SORT OF PUNISHMENT. BUT ENOUGH WITH THE RACE CRAP.... DONT YOU GUYS KNOW THAT GAY IS THE NEW BLACK? HAHAHAHAHAHA

54. Wha's the big deal? The lady had an accident while driving on one of the most dangerous expressways in the US. Give her a break. It's not as this was the only wreck there.

55. OMg... Are you kidding Farrah..... You're not fighting against racism... You're promoting it!!!!! If you were fighting against it the word cracker would of not came out ya mouth. Now... if it's okay to call us crackers... It's okay for us to call you a n*****s!!

Got it!!!

56. Farrah - you're a hypocrite! Calling someone a "racist cracker" makes YOU the racist here.

This is not about race, it's about an accident which resulted in a woman losing her life. Yes, it was an accident, but if she was speeding, or distracted in some way, she needs to take responsibility for causing the death of a woman.

"Vehicular manslaughter is the crime of causing the death of a human being due to illegal driving of an automobile, including gross negligence, reckless driving or speeding."

57. Farrah of comment 40, I hope your joking. OHHHH your SOOO segregated blah blah blah... my boss is an african american man, and even HE hates his own people. Not to say thats my full opinion, but knock it off! If MLK saw that you people were STILL bitching about what he fought for, he would be rolling in his grave. You got what he wanted, now STFU!

58. I think you guys need to let up on her some. You don't think she feels awful right now? And all everyone can do is fight over racial issues. A child is without a mother right now. And if Brandy went to jail her kids would be without a mother too. Yes, she is @ fault, and she does deserve some type of punishment as well as give the family a large sum of money. Also, start an account for the woman's child. So that when the child gets older, he or she has something to give them a financial headstart.

59. As a person of color I just want to say that not all "black" people feel represented by the NAACP or Rev. Al Sharpton, or Jesse Jackson. Actually, I am sick of them jumping on any issue that involves a person of color in order to get publicity. I feel Brandy was wrong. If this were my mother, brother, child, etc. killed in the accident, no matter the persons race, creed, religion, I would want them held accountable for their actions. And believe me, if it were me that was responsible for that accident, I wouldn't have the NAACP in my corner trying to get me out of jail time, Rev. Jesse Jackson would be no-where to be found, and I would not get off with a mere fine and probation. Oh no, I would probably put "under" the jail and for quite a while. So, don't be angry at the average black person, this is not necessarily our point of view. Thanks

60. If I may...#63 how on earth to you compare death to a jail???? If convicted she's ONLY in there for less than a yr. Try telling that to the childrens who's mother was killed!! Brandy's kids will be in great care while she serves her time(if she even does) and get to see their mother on visiting days and when she finally returns home... Now what about this womans children??? They have to grow up without their mother. How can you even COMPARE that? I think people are forgetting a woman DIED... no longer alive...no more nothing to share with her family. What if it was your mother or husband or wife??? Let's see you settle with a fine!!!!
