"Oz" Star Adams -- Elevator Death Was Accidental

Granville Adams, the "Oz" star who allegedly pushed a 35-year-old man to his death in an empty five-story elevator shaft, says that he was simply acting in self-defense, and that if anyone (or anything) should be blamed, it's the elevator itself.

Adams was arraigned yesterday in Manhattan Criminal Court on a charge of criminally negligent homicide in connection with the death of Orlando Valle early Saturday morning, and TMZ has obtained a copy of the complaint. But Adams' lawyers said in court that the actor shouldn't be held responsible. According to their account, as reported by the New York Daily News, Adams, who was acting as a host at the nightclub BED, was attacked with a glass object on the back of the head, then felt someone climb on his back, whom he threw off.

According to lawyer Edward Kratt, Adams didn't "push" the person, who turned out to be Valle, into the elevator doors -- yet Valle hit the doors with enough force that they opened and Valle fell into the empty shaft, causing, as the complaint reads, "a fractured back, pelvis, and skull." The elevator had passed inspection in June 2006.

Neither Adams' lawyers nor club BED could be reached for comment.

16. Uh, to the other "Me" (I'm "Me II" apparently, lol) the *police* statement I read in the news stated he was trying to be the peace keeper. It wasn't just a journalist opinion on the matter.

18. Elevator doors don't just open like that. If they did people wouldn't have been stuck in them during 911

19. Well at least he's had some practice for life behind bars, it seems that may be where he is heading. I hope not. Another waste of talent if he does go to jail. Why are so many celebs getting into such serious trouble with the law recently, Brandy, Lane Garrison, Ryan O'Neal.........

Off topic much?

However, maybe Bush should let others threaten and
kill us. I mean the Cole, 9-11 and all that jazz was harmless. So is
North Korea and Iran. If only we had reasoned with Al Kaida
everything would be just fine. /sarcasm

Support the Iraq war or not (I didn't), something needed to be done about Saddam--years ago! We never supported him, but accepted it with the theory "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". A big mistake, but one taken care of.

21. Elevator doors can open like that if an impact pops the door off its rollers. That can be verified through elevator inspectors, and has been.

22. Elevator doors don't just open cause a body is slammed into them and then poof you drop several floors to your death. Your body would bounce off, you wouldn't fall inside the elevator. HANG THIS BAST@RD FROM THE HIGHEST TREE.

27. It looks like a tragic accident to me. The lump on his head proves he was hit and had it not been for the elevator mishap the guy may have gotten up and struck him again. It seems like a clear cut case of self defense from the fact in the New York Daily News story.

28. YEAH RIGHT A**HOLE IT WAS AN ACCIDENT...F***ING LYING BASTARD!

29. I can't believe this. I have met Adams, and can't imagine that he would ever do anything to intentionally harm someone. I also think that even if it was not in "self-defense" he should not be punished. I think knowing someone died will be a constant punishment, and if someone is going to be charged with "criminal negligence" why not the manufacturure or maintainance company for the elevator which malfunctioned, resulting in the death?
