"Idol" Hopeful Nixed from H'wood for Pot Rap?

Mugshots of Akron Wilson and Ashlyn CarrAkron Watson, an "American Idol" contestant from Dallas and one of the feel-good stories of the new season, has been disinvited from the Hollywood round of the show, possibly after producers discovered a pot bust on his record.

Watson, whose San Antonio audition aired on last night's "Idol," was arrested in April 2003 for misdemeanor possession of marijuana, according to court records obtained and posted by PegasusNews.com, by way of Reality TV Magazine. He was headed to Hollywood after impressing the judges with his singing, and his story. But Watson tells Pegasus News that two days before he was scheduled to leave for Hollywood, he received a call saying that he would not be competing anymore "for unknown reasons." "Idol" producers did not comment on their withdrawn invitation.

Meanwhile, another contestant from San Antonio, facemaker Ashlyn Carr, was reportedly arrested in August for pouring sugar into the gas tank of her ex-boyfriend's car while a student at Sam Houston State University, according to a report in The Houstonian Online.

When confronted by police, says the Houstonian, Carr confessed to the crime.

A spokesman for FOX had no comment.

286. Have you ever noticed that AI never has any Silver contestants? I think that they are prejudice to the alien race! Do I care? No! As a matter of fact, I'm glad! Sorry to say, I just don't trust them. They just don't look natural with that shiny silver skin. Not to mention their eyes. How can you trust anyone with such big eyes? It's like they are looking right into to your brain. I don't have anything against their height. After all, my mother's cousin's roomate in college knew someone who's step sister knew an actual midget. So them being unaturally short is obviously not an issue with me. I don't like the way they act all superior to me, though. I am sure they are the ones who spread that ridiculous rumor that their ancestors built the pyramids! Of course, no one can prove or disprove that one because all of those people are dead now. I do believe, however, that they have kidnapped innocent people from earth to do experiments on them. There are documented cases of that from real people who experienced it first hand. And we are expected to embrace them into our culture with open arms? I think not!!!! Sure, they claim that there is some space ship somewhere that crashed and our scientists have it hidden some where. Do you believe that one? Sounds very "X-Files" to me and I didn't believe everything about that show (except the man with the tail who could change shape to look like anyone he wanted to. I don't trust him either). If by some chance, we really do have one of their crashed space ships and possible bodies of alien pilots killed in the crash...so what of it? If they are allowed to do experiments on our LIVE people, then too bad we found dead ones of their's we can experiment on. Guess you better train your pilots a little better, huh, silver "people"! Back to the point. I don't want MY American Idol to be a silver alien! Why don't they have their own singing contest? They could call it Alien Idol. I don't know who they would get as judges, though they probubly have their own "people" who are famous out there somewhere. I have nothing personally against silver people, really. I just don't think they belong here with all of us. We have enough problems of our own. Of course it would help if they learned our language. I am too set in my ways to learn theirs and besides, I was here first !!!! Well, after the Native Americans, though we really did them a favor by giving them civilization and all! But, that is a whole other ball of wax there! Back to the silver people. Their different from us, I don't trust them, and I'm sure their high squeeky voices would not sound so good over the airwaves. There! I've said it. That is my HUMBLE opinion and you can agree or disagree with me if you want. That is your right. Just don't write back if you disagree with me. I do not handle opinions that differ from mine very well.

287. @#229 I said what I meant, so you can't change me . I was speaking for myself. And If you understood what I said you would not have made your comments. END OF DISCUSSION!!!!!!!

288. Awww...Julia. I like you! You want to legalize pot...you aren't uptight. Well maybe a little but I don't know that. I love you too. I just like to cuss because I can. It's not that I can't carry on a conversation without it....In fact, I have to day in and day out in my job. I like to vent. That is why I cuss. But hey...I think this is one post where I didn't say a cuss word. :) go me. I'm smart now.

289. It appears from the link below that Ashlyn committed, was arrested and jailed for the vandalism *AFTER* the auditions (Auditions in August 06, her crime in November 06), not prior to her tryout. If this is true, her woes are based in her own stupidity, not the production company's cold-heartedness, and I have no sympathy for her.

290. To FYA #277,

I like the way you "end of discussion" almost 50 blogs later. Took you a long time to think things over, huh?

For all of you who were paying attention, FYA said "WHOM IT MAY CONCERN BLACK PEOPLE DON'T GIVE A F*** ABOUT HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT US. WE ARE PEOPLE TOO!!!!!!" Please refer to my responce in #229. If FYA was only speaking for him/herself, why did he/she say "BLACK PEOPLE", "US", AND "WE". Now, either FYA was speaking for a group of people or, if he/she was speaking for him/herself, FYA has MPD which stands for Multiple Personality Disorder. I will leave it up to the general public to decide since FYA has decided to end their discussion with me. FYA may continue with him/herself since at least all of "THEM" agree

292. That is just silly to boot him for something that was done 4 years ago and it was something so small. I mean come on now, look at all the times Snoop was in trouble for pot and he still has a record label!

Posted at 7:18PM on Feb 8th 2007 by sillyone277

293. I think the big issue here is that they booted him and did not and will not give a reason. Also, IF it is due to the misdemeanor from 2003 and he disclosed this before he auditioned then that it self is a cause for concern. By doing things like this Idol is making that "golden ticket" meaningless. It is not a good way to show they are running a legit show. Regardless about my feelings about pot, or this guys prior misdemeanor, if he told them about it and they still let him audition and gave him the pass to the next round...then they should honor their part here. They are the producers and they can do what they want, but I personally think that they at least have an obligation to him and the audience to say WHY they cut him. (Oh, and it is nice how they cut him yet they still used his story on their show. As far as the audience was concerned this guy was going, yet the producers knew he wasn't, why waist our time? Anything for rating right...)

294. Matt, if you claim you can challenge me to any intellectual pursuit, then may I suggest you first learn to spell. BLACK has a "C" and REMEMBER, an extra "M." Maybe where you live the crime and drugs are done by 90% whites, which, if that's the majority of your population, would figure, but where I come from it's the other way around. I am not saying that there aren't plenty of whites that do drugs and have babies, but we don't have half the kids you do. And as far as the media reporting on the "black" crimes more, that's crap and you know it. Just smacks of racism again. A crime is a crime, no matter who commits it, and if there is reporting to do, they will report it. I am NOT a product of your ancestors. Where did you learn YOUR history? And the last time I looked, YOU live in this country that you claim is going down the toilet too. Why don't you try and make it better, instead of contributing to the problem? Answer me this...IF you ARE so superior to us, then how can WE oppress YOU? You should be smart enough to think of a way out of that! I laughed as I read your post, because I just watched episode one of the new Survivor, and the FIRST two people causing arguments, making a racist remark and/or complaining about having to work were black. Go figure...

295. Wow!! The grammar and spelling in these comments prove which ones DO smoke pot. Maybe you should spend more time on school work than writing stupid comments!!

297. It is too bad that this guy couldn't have been given the opportunity to turn things around through his singing. It would have been a GREAT story, and he could have been a great role model. Maybe they could have had him sign an agreement, saying he would stay clean if he made it to the finals?
I agree that there seems to be a lot of hypocrisy on the show, with Paula seemingly under the influence on many episodes and facing no dire consequences. We see Miss USA getting a "second chance" when her competitors likely had no legal issues...we see George W. Bush becoming President while having had a DUI in his past, for Pete's sake! Why couldn't Akron be given a shot?

Posted at 4:16AM on Feb 9th 2007 by Laura

298. It's very sad to me......This was an opportunity that would very possibly turned Akron's life around. It is unfair to me that past indiscretions that have been legally put behind someone continue to plague them with every move they make. I think everyone deserves a second chance to make a life for themselves, especially if the crime they have committed did not injure another person. Come on people. P.S. And NO, I have never been committed of a crime and I am not a loser...I am a mother of 7 sons who is concerned about hipocritical decisions against people trying to better themselves.
