"Idol" Hopeful Nixed from H'wood for Pot Rap?

2/7/2007 1:30 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Mugshots of Akron Wilson and Ashlyn CarrAkron Watson, an "American Idol" contestant from Dallas and one of the feel-good stories of the new season, has been disinvited from the Hollywood round of the show, possibly after producers discovered a pot bust on his record.

Watson, whose San Antonio audition aired on last night's "Idol," was arrested in April 2003 for misdemeanor possession of marijuana, according to court records obtained and posted by PegasusNews.com, by way of Reality TV Magazine. He was headed to Hollywood after impressing the judges with his singing, and his story. But Watson tells Pegasus News that two days before he was scheduled to leave for Hollywood, he received a call saying that he would not be competing anymore "for unknown reasons." "Idol" producers did not comment on their withdrawn invitation.

Meanwhile, another contestant from San Antonio, facemaker Ashlyn Carr, was reportedly arrested in August for pouring sugar into the gas tank of her ex-boyfriend's car while a student at Sam Houston State University, according to a report in The Houstonian Online.

When confronted by police, says the Houstonian, Carr confessed to the crime.

A spokesman for FOX had no comment.

I love how Idol brings out the best in people. the devision of black and white lol. If this was any other race other than black ameican nothing would be said. lets talk raciest a minute ok . Randy and Simon both have passed through people that couldn't sing worth crap because of the color of their skin. and that color was not white. Oh and lets not forget if a overweight white female that had a beatiful voice came in well they would laugh but let a overweight black female that sings beautifully come in well they love her shes going to hollywood dawg..So all you white haters open your eyes and ears and look at AI realistly its just like everything else in the world today just another show trying to make up for what our ancestors did to the slaves. Come on people this is 2007 get over it. we all came into this world the same way and we all will have to die. just look at things for what they are the guy did some drugs the girl let her temper get the best of her and well ya know we all have to pay for the decisions we make in life maybe some young hopeful will think twice before they break the law after reading that.

He paid his dues, and should be allowed to go to Hollywood. How else can we teach kids that they can have a life or do better if we condemn them for their past? Everyone makes mistakes, and everyone deserves a second chance. This is minor, and he got caught. How many are smoking pot and haven't gotten caught? How many get off in Hollywood because of their name, and don't do the time? Give the kid a break!

Look, these people know from the time they sign up to be a contestant that they're going to be under a microscope. The freaking name of the show says it all American IDOL. They are looking for someone who is not so much "squeeky" clean, but for someone who has at least tried to keep their lives in check. And sure, there are people out there who have done drugs, they are booting him because he got arrested..to them that is not and "idol". It's their show, their rules, either you deal with it, or shut up and move on. You people make way to big of a deal out of this crap. Do you really not have a life that you have to come to an online blog and start "running your mouth" about something just to have something to bitch about? So he is booted off, so what, if he is that good, go out, make some demos, send them out to record execs and do it the old fashioned way, same goes for the girl. American Idol is not the only way to "become a star". Christina did it, Pink did it, ALOT of other stars did it, so if you're that hell bent on it, you can do it too! As for this show being rigged, or stupid, then don't watch, turn the channel, read a book or newspaper. It is for ENTERTAINMENT. Enjoy your life, whatever it may or may not be. Sheesh

I DO NOT THINK THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. THAT WAS SEVERAL YEARS BACK. AND YES, LOOK AT PAULA, SHE IS HIGH ON SOMETHING EVERY TIME YOU SEE HER. SHE IS ONE OF THE JUDGES, AND SHE IS SITTING THERE HALF CROCKED. IF I WAS THIS GUY THEY BOOTED, I WOULD HIRE ME A LAWYER AND I WOULD GO TO COURT. WHAT HE HAS DONE IS NOT AS BAD AS SIMOM SITTING THERE MAKING FUN OF PEOPLES LOOKS, AND THE OTHER JUDGES SITTING THERE LAUGHING AT THEM. TO ME IT IS A BUNCH OF BULL SH*T, AND I WOULD NOT LET THEM GET BY WITH IT. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO TELL ME THAT SOME OF THE ROCKERS THAT HAVE SANG ON THERE HAD NOT HAD A JOINT FIRST. THEY SHOULD TAKE THAT LITTLE IDIOT SHOW OFF THE AIR, BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL GETTING RICH BY HURTING OTHERS.................

What happened three years ago and hasn't happen't since is arbitrary and capricious.
This reefer madness that continues to sweep this nation only helps to fuel all the cottage industries that stem from making cannabis illegal. Making it legal and taxing would put the money into the pockets of the nation. Instead the money now goes into the pockets of the criminals, the penal system, judges, lawyers, police and all the rehab programs that are owned by all of the same names mentioned.
If these judges are supposed to be representing my vote, let them stick to what they are supposed to doing, judging the talent of the individual.

Farrah>>>American Idol is a RACIST show. They don't have enough African Americans on the show. Everyone knows that African Americans have more talent when it comes to singing and dancing
Sandra>>>Oh then why is it that Ruben Studdard won. He's black. And, Fantasia Barrino won and she's black.Get over yourself..Already....

Aaron, I don't think you need to address anything educated ... witness your spelling of "rediculous" and "cannibus" ... and by the way, just how many successful doctors, lawyers, and CEO's do you personally know that smoke pot? Your spelling aside, I agree with you that this competition is designed to find the next "Idol," and as such, the producers should not let a contestant's misdemeanor history keep them off the show. After all, they've paid their debt to society. As Americans, we've already shown that immoral or illegal activities do not necessarily keep our stars and idols off of pedestals. You need look no further than many professional sports stars, rock stars, movie stars, etc. While the vast majority of these individuals are worthy of our praise, the "bad actors" seem to garner all the attention, and we continue to support them by going to see their games, concerts, movies, etc. As for this particular "news" item, maybe the AI producers WANT to have some sort of controversy publicized to keep their show in the forefront of our minds.

Responsible people do not do irresponsible things. Sure, people make mistakes, but grown-ups accept and live up to consequences.
I too feel that marajuana shouldn't be illegal; however, as long as it IS illegal, one shouldn't try to become part of a show that attempts to find an "idol", or someone to which impressionable minds look up, and expect to be exempt.
If you don't agree with a law, then get involved and make an effort to change it. Talk is cheap, so they say.
One more thing - name-calling and cursing is something one does when a more intellegent argument cannot be found. It makes a person look and sound stupid. Don't raise your voice - improve your argument.
Go ahead, write about how "uptight" you think I am. I am a grown-up. I won't bite the bait.

I've seriously considered trying out, but I have an underaged drinking charge from 4 years ago....was never arrested though, just cited. I don't do drugs and I am only a social drinker (who is very much of age now), but I think the show should take into consideration the fact that young people don't always make the wisest decisions and we sometimes have to make mistakes to learn from them. A charge from 3 or 4 years ago (or longer) should be irrelevant.

People seem to forget that this is a show, it's entertainment. The bottom line is money.

No one has a 'right' to be on American Idol. It's a privately owned entity and they can make their own rules. They can reject anyone for any reason. It may not be good for publicity but it is their right to do as they please with their product.

That is so unfair! It is in his past and should be left there! He is a good singer and should have been given a chance. It was only a misdemeanor anyhow, not a felony. They ought to get a clue from Donald Trump LOL. If he could forgive Miss USA for her drug issues, they ought to let go of something that happened over 3 yrs. ago.
Ashlyn's 'face-making'? She's a good singer and can work on the other issues. She poured sugar in an ex-boyfriend's gas tank? A lot of ppl have done crazy things like that. 'Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.' a few years ago I was 'scorned' and I was so distraught, I thought of all kinds of things I could do to 'get even' and I WASN'T a young person, I was 40+!

Ok, these people really are air heads. How come they boot someone from Hollywood just because of an ancient pot bust from way back when, but 2 years ago, they actually kept a contestant who was and still is on drugs--Bo Bice! That isn't right. They should've booted Bo off first if they planned on booting these people for their history!

I am SO glad that the drug addict was canned from the show! Couldn't be happier, as a matter of fact................and that face-making 'tard who put sugar in her boyfriend's gas tank should also get he boot as she is a low class criminal too.............Hey, maybe they can get on America's Most Wanted where they both belong, huh? Bottom line, they both are guilty as sin, and more importantly lied on their Idol applications and that alone is reason alone for dismisal. Neither one of these freakaziods would have made it past the next round anyway, so what is the big deal.................back to a life of crime for both of them.................where they will do well..........apparently predisposed to this sort of lifestyle............................so, America, look for them at their next job where you might here them sing.................want fries with that, SIR? Everyone should remember that it's American Idol................not American Felonious Rehab on Display.................and who in their right mind could ever idolize either one of THESE misfortunate souls?
