32. Ugh, methadone is NOT good for unborn babies. It won't kill the kid, and it's better than heroin or crystal meth, but the baby still has withdrawal issues after birth, because it is born addicted, and withdrawal SUCKS! That's why the damn mother's on the methadone in the first place...because withdrawal SUCKS.

Not saying mothers shouldn't use it if they choose to or need it, because that's their right, but it's not good for the baby. You know it's true.

The legit medical world does not authorize these drugs, what planet do you come from? Most people who cared about ANS would help her get into drug treatment facilities in the first few months of pregnancy. There sure are messed up people in this world. Glad I'm not your kid.

I'll make this brief, but you people are all wrong about methaonde and pregnancy, it is VERY safe during pregnancy IF the mother was a prior opiod addict or need's the medication for chronic-pain as I do. I had a PERFECT, healthy baby boy a while back with NO witdrawal whatsoever, 60% of all babie's born to mother's on methadone have NO withdrawal. PLEASE Google: "Methadone and Pregnancy".......to PLEASE educated and unbias yourselve's. 36. 60% of all babie's born to mother's in a prescribed methaonde treatement program are NOT born addicted, and the remainder that are do NOT experience withdrawal like the withdrawal of coming off of an opiod in an adult, most women are give what is called a "split-dose" during pregnancy 1/2 your dose in the am and the other 1/2 in the evening, Methadone does NOT have the same effects during use nor during POSSIBLE withdrawal as heroin, not the same, and the baby would be give NON-Addictive totally curable medication IF he/she has any withdrawl. You people need to do some Googeling.

I agree with Stella,for women who are addicted to opiates,methedone is used safely under a doctors care during pregnancy,To "dead babies" I don't know what kind of a utopia you live in, but many women today take a prescription during pregnancy whether for depression and other chronic diseases.Some people can't just stop their meds because it would be dangerous for the unborn baby. Doctors go with the saying if the benefits out weigh the risks,While ideally you shouldn't take anything some women don't have that options. Most of us born in the 60's and 70's people smoked and drank during pregnancies, most babies born were underweight, till the medical world decided smoking and drinking shouldn't be taken at all during pregnancies!

38. Ok, it is not alleged that he gave her ILLEGAL drugs, methadone is NOT illegal and it is commonly prescribed for addicts even if they are pregnant. People need to do research before they jump on the let's lynch Anna bandwagon. Yes, the woman had troubles in her life, yes she has had some questionable decision making processes, however...I believe that she loved her children, including Dannielynn while she was pregnant and would have done anything possible to lower the risk to her unborn baby and if that included taking methadone to ease her withdrawl from drugs then that would have been monitored and of course she received prenatal care. The question really is if this doctor prescribed the drugs illegally, not if he prescribed illegal drugs.

40. I have a few questions after reading the post by Pharmacist. I don't know much about Methadone other than it can be used for pain or as an addiction treatment. For a moment, let's assume ANS did have a methadone related death.Could it be possible to hide high quantities of the drug in her food or drink without her knowing it? I have popped tylenol in my mouth while getting a glass of water and it was bitter before I washed it down. My question is, is Methadone bitter enough that someone would detect it in their drink or food (applesauce, pudding, soup, etc)? It has also been stated in Pharmacist's post that increasing methadone will not increase a high like other opiates. If that's the case, why would she OD on methadone if there was no high in increased doseages? They reason I ask these questions is because I am wondering if it was possible for someone to OD her without her knowledge in order to commit "the perfect crime". I'm still not convinced of the coincindence that Daniel died a methadone related accidental death with ANS following 5 months later.

41. I agree methadone should not be used in pregnant women, except in extreme circumstances. However as an MD who did her residency in a poor area of NYC, I can tell you it is used in pregnant women, especially when they are more in danger from doing street drugs, which pose a much higher risk to the baby. It is used as a better option, not the best option, which is don't use drugs. I am not defending the doctor, because he also used an alias which is illegal, but perhaps with ANS extensive history of drug use, methadone was a better choice for her. I know in NY state that if you are in an approved methadone program,your child will not be taken away at the hospital because it may have the drug in its system. ANS was very sick, and she may have been so out of control, that if she was denied her drug of choice, she may have made even worse decisions. And BTW, oral methadone comes in really big bottles.

43. Anna's death certificate will likely say unknown until an inquest takes place. There is speculation Stern is holding out on the DNA test because it is almost certain he will be arrested for fraud on the RX drug possession, and he intends to milk this for what it's worth to pay for his defense. That baby needs to be in the custody of Child Protective Services and could be the next major development. Anna may have not been asked in delivery what the surname of the child is, Stern was probably asked and he gave his name. By killing Daniel it created such distress for Anna the certificate could not have been changed if Anna requested it because she was so "out of it". The hospital needs to come forth.

A death certificate was issued 9/22 for Daniel Smith, son of Anna Nicole Smith.
Although the cause of Daniel’s death on 10th September is still unknown, the certficate has been issued so that a funeral can take place.

Anna Nicole’s Bahamian lawyer Michael Scott confirmed the certificate had been issued and added: “It is not unusual in instances where the cause of death cannot be determined to issue a death certificate.

45. All of you stating that Methadone is safe to take for pregnant women are completely incorrect. See below the copy and paste I did from the Methadone manufacturer's website which give all the information about the drug. Any drugs prescribed or not, taken during pregnancy will cross the placenta and enter into the baby's blood stream. Read below...it will make your hair stand on end...poor Dannielynn...her mother was a dumb cow and not only contributed to Daniel's death, her own death but put her innocent baby at risk as well:

Warnings and Precautions

Methadone should be given with caution or in reduced doses to patients with hypothyroidism, adrenocortical insufficiency, impaired kidney or liver function, prostatic hypertrophy or shock. It should be used with caution in patients with obstructive bowel disorders and those with myasthenia gravis. Methadone is not recommended for use in obstetrical analgesia or in ambulant patients.

When used in therapeutic doses for prolonged periods, methadone may lead to the development of dependence of the morphine type and patients should be reminded of the necessity of adhering to the prescribed dosage.

Use in Pregnancy:

Risk-benefit must be considered because opioid analgesics cross the placenta. Regular use during pregnancy may cause physical dependence in the foetus, leading to withdrawal symptoms (convulsions, irritability, excessive crying, tremors, hyperactive reflexes, fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, sneezing and yawning) in the neonate.

Use of methadone by pregnant women participating in methadone maintenance programmes has also been associated with foetal distress in utero and low birth weight. Although teratogenic effects in humans have not been documented, controlled studies have not been done.
