Ex-NBA Star Hardaway: "I Hate Gay People"

Isaiah Washington has a new point-man on Team Gay-Bashers.
Tim hates gays: listen to audio
Former NBA star Tim Hardaway is catching fire today after he went on a gay-hating tirade yesterday afternoon on the radio. "I hate gay people, so I let it be known," said Hardaway. "I don't like gay people and I don't like to be around gay people. I am homophobic ... [Gay people] shouldn't be in the world or in the United States."

Hardaway spewed his venom on Miami's Sports Talk 790 The Ticket in response from a question from host Dan Le Batard about John Amaechi, the retired NBA player who has revealed in a new book that he's gay. NBA commissioner David Stern removed Hardaway from league-related appearances during this weekend's All-Star festivities in Las Vegas. Hardaway subsequently apologized, but not for his actual sentiments: "I shouldn't have said I hate gay people or anything like that. That was my mistake."

Amaechi responded last night to Hardaway's comments: "It is ridiculous, absurd, petty, bigoted and shows a lack of empathy that is gargantuan and unfathomable. But it is honest."

35. Hey sthoover, it's not wrong to love someone of the same sex. I agree that hate is a harsh word. You don't have to like anything. Just because being gay isn't normal in YOUR world doesn't make it wrong.

Posted at 1:17PM on Feb 15th 2007 by It's not wrong

36. It is not a choice to be either black or gay. Why are people so hateful lately? Why is it so hard to accept other people for who they are. I can't believe how ignorant some people are.

37. I hate ignorant people. Tim's comment was very ignorant and so is the comment made by the two uneducated fools about black people. You are entitled to your opinion, but if it is considered rude keep it to yoursef. People are people and did not ask to be what they are so the ignorant peope should just grow up and deal with it.

38. I feel so sorry for all of you people on here that have the behavior of a 5 year old. Everytime I'm on here I have to remid myself that I'm not at my sons elementary school. All of the name calling and hateful things that are said on here is so childish and sad. I feel sorry for people who have to belittle a race or people for their sexual preference, but what upsets me the most is that the same people making such dumb and ignorant comments are our co-workers, neighbors, children classmates parents, and so called friends that don't act like this in public, but spit out such hate when they are behind closed doors or in this case a computer. I really wish you all a change in your lives because God sees no color and it's really sad to live your lives with such ignorance. If you don't remember anything else from this, just remember It's better to remain silent and let people think you're a fool then to speak and remove all doubt. Grow up

Posted at 1:01PM on Feb 15th 2007 by You all need to grow up

39. That's okay - he's hideous and has NOTHING to fear - Gay's hate him too.

40. Hey this is America. Why can we not just say what we feel without getting in trouble for it. Some gays make me sick, as do straight people, smelly people etc. Why do we live in America if we can't say what we really feel. Why can't we stop being so PC!

41. Read what the freedom of speech act says before you comment on it. It states something like as long as it doesn't impose on the rights of others. Obviously that comment imposes on the rights of homosexuals. It's not about political correctness, it's about not making others feel bad.

42. The sad thing is, it wasn't long ago that racists said basically the same thing about blacks looking to enter professional sports. Maybe Mr. Hardwaway should read a little about Jackie Robinson, and what he and other blacks faced....

43. Finally someone sane in this world. Homosexuality is a disease not something to deny and pretend like it's no big deal. These people need medical research and treatments because it's obviously a mental illness.

44. hahaha. finally someone in the limelight has the guts to say something controversal not to get publicity, but in response to a direct question. what was he supposed to do lie?

it's a sad day when Americans have to lie instead of telling how they really feel to avoid being hammered by the ridiculously extreme leftist media.

45. The saddest thing about it is the reaction of 'daralics' like Liz. I'm a straight guy from Massachusetts, you know the place with gay marriage. Do you know what has changed since allowing gay marriage? Nothing at all. Hatred of people you know nothing about is pretty sad. It isn't 'the liberal media' or 'liberal judges' that make this world messed up, its fools like Hardaway and Liz, societies real cancers.Hey Liz you like old saying enough, try this one, 'dumb is dumb'.
